Another of your stumbling blocks is everthing is binary to you. Unity or division. With us or Against us. The world is a little more complex than that.

Now correct me if I'm wrong here, but are not public schools in the states funded by the government, with government set curriculum? Is not public educated deemed part of the government body? I don't believe this school is a private one, so I would guess that it falls in the former category.

Now if that's the case, technically they ARE being punished by the government. Yes it's arguing semantics, but in essence it still falls under said category.
Midnyte_Ragebringer wrote:A teachers job is to teach and not impose their beliefs on the kids. I couldn't agree more. I wish we had video tape of this teacher. I'd love to see if he had a lot to do with the way these peoms came out by the kids.
And a Principals job is to ensure that the teacher does stick to teaching. But the Principal also is to follow said standards, and chastizing someone for critizing a government body and/or having their chance for a freedom of thought and speech is ludicrous. Not to mention he then acts like an ass to the kids and tells them to "Shut their face". Extremely unprofessional and uncalled for.
Midnyte_Ragebringer wrote:Teachers shouldn't discuss homosexuality in the schools, except, in the future once it's proven, in science class how a particular gene gets fucked up in the womb causing them to be born that way. Just like they used to mention that there is a certain gene that fucked up causing people to be born retarded.
Why am I not surprised you bring up your homophobia again in these threads? A homosexual is deemd a person, and a minority. There tends to be discussions about current events and the like that will bring up gay / lesbian events / activists etc. Also homosexuality should be part of the general sex education to discuss potential risks and how to protect against said risks, but that is another topic altogether.

I must say the more I read your posts the more I feel sorry for people who have to interact with such a close minded bigot as yourself.

A teachers job is to teach and not impose their beliefs on the kids.
I can't believe I missed that earlier.
How can you be such a blatant hypocrite and not even realise it?

Wouldn't be ironic if the teacher in question was a staunch republican and was simply respecting their students right to free speech (eventhough they disagreed with their opinions).

You know, Midnyte, the more I read your posts the more I come to the conclusion that in my opinion, you don't deserve to live in a democracy.
A rule of the people, for the people and by the people is based on every individual's right to disagree, to question and to be skeptical of the status quo.

Arborealus has a quote from Benjamin Franklin in his signature - my suggestion to you, as one human being to another, would be that you read it and think long and hard about what it means.

Do you want your children to grow up as automatons who are afraid to question authority? Do you want them to grow up as people who always look to others for answers? Or do you want them to be inquisitive, curious people who dare to stray off the beaten path now and then? Who think about how they can make a difference in the world?

I know which one I'd pick.

this story typifies the Bush administration

it is a collassal dissaster on all fronts and is 150% unamerican.

i'm sure plenty of uninformed conservative apologists will disagree with me, but since they dont know shit about the constitution past the 0th amendment, i'm not concerned about the refutation.

in the history of our country there has never been an organization that is more thoroughly un-American than the current incarnation of the Grand Old Party.

THIS is what happens when people vote Republican.

It will happen on your block

It will happen on your street.

It will happen at your child's school.

It will happen at your place of employment.

Midnyte, you usually do make some good points but i'm gonna hafta go 180 with you here.

i don't get in here as much as i like but wow, i feel sick. as a conservative i have to say that article disgusts me. why are so many people so eager to call others "unpatriotic" or "unamerican"? i can maybe see the principal saying posters in the hallway shouldn't be up, because a school shouldn't be an advertisement one way or the other, but there should be room for debate in certain settings of school. a peom read in that setting was not inappropraite. next that principal will be trying to take away our freedom to think. a school is a govt organization. last time i checked, public schools recieved their funding from the govt. conservatives want kids to be able to pray in school and bring their Bible's, as they should. but, there are and should be proper settings for these things. clubs and organizations should be able to allow kids the chance to express themselves in a public setting as long as it is not offensive or obscene. and it was clearly stated in this instance that the peom(s) was/were neither offensive nor obscene.

as for the right to bear arms, keep in mind, that amendment was put in place in case this nation ever needed to overthrow a corrupt govt. now someone is gonna call me "unpatriotic" or "unamerican" i'm sure.
My goal is to live forever. So far so good.

I won't call you un-patriotic. I wasn't totally impressed by the principal, I just can understand his frustration. I applaud his not conforming to the distructive trend in America these days to bash the government. I'm disgusted and sick of it myself, so therefore I can understand where he is coming from. He may just in reality be a right wing nut job. No article tells you everything, just a snipet.

You remind me of the "right to bear arms" idiots. Who use this to justify having automatic weapons.

Don't know who is right or wrong, will be interesting to see if the original writer of the piece responds and what he has to say if so.

People were responding to the evidence as it was presented. There was no overreaction by anyone on this board, only potentially by an overzealous editorial-columnist. I didn't see a single post discounting the fact that there might be another side to the story. Though that evidence is now highly questionable, we can examine the scenario from a hypothetical perspective, and focus on the issue of First Amendment rights, and how they apply within the classroom. In that hypothetical scenario, your reaction was still the deplorable and highly-un-American:
I applaud the principal. I glad he is trying to squash this fostering of discontent and anti-patriotism.

Some of you people use the 1st amendment phrase way too fucking much. You can't just throw that out there to justify everything. Your narrow-mindedness is scary.
Had you prudently stated that there were two sides to every story and that you wanted to reserve judgement until you heard that other side, I doubt anyone would have cared about your opinion. Instead you took the blind-faith-patriotic stance, and made yourself look like a fool. Everyone else had an appropriate reaction to the facts as they were originally presented.

The real humor in the thread was when people from Canada, Denmark and Norway were explaining to you why your opinion was un-American. The fact that a bunch of non-Americans understand the way this country is supposed to work and what it's supposed to stand for better than you, should be wholely embarassing for you.

So please, back away from your high horse. The only person who looked like an overreacting asshole on this thread was you.
