Upcoming melee changes

I'm seeming to read this as something that you'd see for the 1-45 crowd. What with the combat "foci" (for lack of the appropriate term) items in PoTime, I don't suspect you'll see a significant amount of these "openings" at the top end of the game.
Either way, /bye to /attack on, /afk mode for melee.

I know I'm good at what I do, but I know I'm not the best.
But I guess that on the other hand, I could be like the rest.

Hybrids as well, but to a lesser extent.
And it doesn't matter if this is 'added on'. They will tune future encounters with this in mind - they will have to, or they will be made too easy for the ones who choose to use the new DRAGONPUNCH COMBO! or whatever they are going to call these 'moves'. And they will fuck it up.

Chances are it will be about a 10% deal... with more casting of worthless refresh spells to keep the million clerics busy. ie, you'll do 90% of your current DPS w/ autoattack, 110% if you button mash like a 5 year old playing mortal combat.Sabek wrote:Someone on the beastlord board made a nice point. If you have to use the new skills to get to your old DPS its bad, but if the new skills will allow you to increase above what you have already it could be nice.

I dont think hybrids should even get these new skills. If they do, I will be very pissed off if they even come to be 50% of the power of thier pure melee counterparts.
Hybrids: Our end. skills dont even come close to pure melees!
PureMelee: Thats been the point since the damn begining
SoE: Good point, hybrids need a boostin

I think the whole point is to rework mele combat, since games like FF11 (and Daoc) require mele to make at least limited decisions and control input during a fight. I don't think turning mele combat into a computerized version of whack a mole was the right way to go about it. As for hybrids being involved in this, well I'm guessing its the 10% deal like someone said previously. Every mele who does not jam buttons is probably going to lose a little DPS overall, but the mele who actually pay attention will get some boost. If you leave the Hybrids out of it, then a pure mele loses DPS from being AFK/Assist but a hybrid doesnt (mele wise), which I am sure would be far less acceptable. I hope to hell the expand the hotbutton bar or something, as most hybrids barely have room enough for critical combat keys on the one page they have, between spells and assist keys. PErsonally, I think combat sliders Offense - Defense, Speed - Accuracy, Damage - Agro Evasion, ect, would have been better, setting those sliders much much wider for pure meles than hybrids.
This really solves nothing beyond the boredom factor for pure mele, honestly.

War is an option whose time has passed. Peace is the only option for the future. At present we occupy a treacherous no-man's-land between peace and war, a time of growing fear that our military might has expanded beyond our capacity to control it and our political differences widened beyond our ability to bridge them. . . .
Short of changing human nature, therefore, the only way to achieve a practical, livable peace in a world of competing nations is to take the profit out of war.
--RICHARD M. NIXON, "REAL PEACE" (1983)
"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, represents, in the final analysis, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children."
