Something fun to discuss
In your opinion, what mob or pc has the best death animation?
[and a little question for my own enlightenment from you guys who know this crap. Is "mob" synonymous with "npc" or does "npc" denote a character that can be interacted with, as opposed to a creature that cannot and just exists for killing? A minor subtlety I'd like to understand (if it exists).]

mob is short for mobile.
Any mobile creature in a rpg can be considered a mob.
A non mobile creature is usally referred to as a NPC.
Dunno about animations, but the mobs in SSeru say the funiest shit when they die....
A Centurion of the Arx corpse says, 'Paying 50pp for a cleric!'

Old school ogre/troll death animations are the win
As for MOB/NPC, that's actually a tougher question than I first thought. Initially I wanted to say they were synonymous, but then I started thinking.. I never refer to some quest NPCs as quest MOBs. Hmm. It's all just semantics I guess, but I suppose for me there's a bit of a difference.

Kobolds, IMO. The first time I saw the last swing after I THOUGHT it was dead, I had to nuke it again, just to make sure.
As for mobs and NPC's. I call creatures that only exist to be killed "MOB's" and creatures that act as quest folks, vendors, bankers, guild trainers "NPC's". I guess if it has a special name, it's an "NPC" (Non-playing character) in my view, but if it's a_shin_knight_003, it's a "MOB".

/agree old model ogres are great.
I also like the Dervishes in IC, first I'm just glad to see them die cos they are annoying as hell, and second I always liked that skull hanging in mid air for a moment before sinking to the ground atop the rest of its bones.

Oh FFS, another know-it-all about mud terminology.MoB is actually short for movable object
On every MUD I played, MOB was the term used for a 'compuer controlled' mobile.
Besides that point, mobs are not 'moveable'... have you ever tried to manipulate and 'move' a mob in a MUD?
Mobile: Capable of moving or changing from one state or condition to another
Moveable: capable of being moved or conveyed from one place to another
