You were right on all three counts. Obama has shown his high level of class and dignity throughout this campaign. This was just another example. But you're not going to hear this in the talking points, you're going to hear some other useless babble.valryte wrote:I was a bit disappointed that Obama didn't take the chance to really push on Palin

Exactly. The last thing he'd need is an excuse for Palin (who is rabidly anti-womens issues across the board) to call Obama sexist, or bring about the non-experience issue. Plus bringing up McCain's mortality is kind of a bummer. Sadly though, you see no one reporting on that! Though it is somewhat taboo/poor taste to talk about a guy dying, McCain made it very relevant with her selection. But who knows, if Obama had done it maybe it would have back fired on him somehow. Not that we really need Obama to tell us how ridiculous a choice Sarah Palin is for VP.

It's strange how little press Palin and her husband being found guilty is getting. Especially as a Vice Presidential nominee.

I guess it depends on your definition of "found guilty." I heard quite a bit on CNN last Friday about the findings that there was an abuse of power, but they also said that no actual charges were being filed.Siji wrote:It's strange how little press Palin and her husband being found guilty is getting. Re: McCain will be the next U.S. President (IMO)
As much as Palin has diappointed me, Biden is also doing some fucking stupid things. His comments this weekend that we will see a "generated" response to test Barrack feed right into the Republican's strategy. I know he was trying to say he can handle it, but to ask people to stand behind him when his popularity starts to wane, based on his response, leaves a lot of speculation to be made on said response. It also lets people speculate on what type of attack we would see. I just do not get the strategy behind his comments.
The Biden stand up comment to the handicapped Senator was sad, but not as bad as it was made out to be. I don't see much difference though when compared to Palin yelling at supporters she misheard. Both were simple mistakes and blown way out of proportion.
Palin is awful, but frankly Biden is not much better.

Re: McCain will be the next U.S. President (IMO)
Doubtful, since you would have had to have been in Antarctica completely cut off from the world for the past 10 years or so not to know he was a POW.
Anyway, I did finish the NYTimes Mag. article about McCain. It was a good piece on the changing aspects of McCain's campaign, or as his top campaign aides have referred to them: "narratives." It explains how McCain is at a disadvantage because Obama's "narrative" of Change vs McSame has not needed very much alteration. It has remained effective, and indeed become more effective with the economic collapse that many are blaming on policies McCain voted for.
McCain, however, has had to alter strategies multiples times. Some examples: Experience vs Inexperience, Statesman vs Celebrity, Maverick vs Old Washington and the most current (and disgusting I might add), Patriot vs Terrorist. Some of these have come into conflict with each other and have clouded the campaign. For instance, how can you claim Experience vs Inexperience after you get a very inexperienced running mate, considering his age. It also conflicts with the Old Washington aspect. How can he be a beltway insider and so inexperienced at the same time.
The selection of Palin undermines the celebrity argument as well, since she has been hoisted into the limelight to the same extent, if not further, as Obama. One campaign aide is even quoted as her being a celebrity.
The Terrorist, "who is this guy?," argument seems to work, but when considering Obama's main argument against policies of old, it could play into his hands. McCain's tactics of recent are definitely Rove-esque, to say the least. There has been press that has linked Rove to the campaign directly, though the sources are less than stellar (IE Rolling Stone).
Anyway its worth the read and gives a lot of insight into the actual process of how Palin was selected. And apparently a lot of decisions are made at some unnamed bar. Not surprising. If you see "The War Room" ever a lot of campaign meetings involved coolers of beer.
One nugget:
“The way you pick a vice president is, you get a frame of Time magazine, and you put the pictures of the people in that frame. You look at who fits that frame best — that’s your V. P.”

Gratz Xyun on your first presidential vote. I voted already too. I really like the mail in voting process, I can take my time on the ballot. A poll showing McCain closing the gap on Obama!
As the candidates make their closing arguments before the election, the race has tightened with Barack Obama now leading John McCain by 47 percent to 44 percent among likely voters, according to aFOX Newsdefinately NOT fox news poll released Thursday. Last week Obama led by 49-40 percent among likely voters.

CNN was quoting a poll yesterday that was 50 - 47 (4% margin of error). I was surprised to hear it was that close. They quote several polls, and I cannot remember which this was.
Found some info with the average lead being 6.2% for Obama here:
