Brotha wrote:Only a liberal could take the killing of an alligator and compare it to the racially motivated killing of African Americans. I knew racism in Houston was on the the decline, but based on your irrationial, idiotic posts, it looks like something associated with racism is actually on the rise- ignorance. Thanks Lalanae for fucking up my hopes that Houston was improving in this department.

The animal rights arguments are getting getting beyond absurd. There is no way to rationalize your "outrage" over this in the society we have today. How many millions of cows are being killed? (There Miir, I made a statement without doing the exact research...it's a perfect set up for you to post a statistic and point out how ignorant I am. Remember, millions means more than two million!!)

This is another case where people NEED TO GET A FUCKING LIFE and atleast *try* to get their priorities in order. I swear, some people HAVE to have SOMETHING to whine about.
You tard, I was NOT comparing the event as if to say it was as wrong. I was REMINDED of Cut N' Shoot because the alligator was drug behind a truck (then cut loose) and shot. It was an ASIDE, hence "OFF TOPIC," if you can read. Houston is full of ignorant trailer park trash. The story illustrated that, my story illustrated that.

Your cow argument doesn't explain torturous brutality. I had less of a problem with him killing the animal as I did with him DRAGGING it behind his truck. Even still, I find the killing unnecessary. He could have easily had the gator relocated.

The cow argument is flawed from the get-go for one simple reason. Yes, they live shitty lives and are slaughtered for food, but it is for a purpose at least, to be food. The gator incident served no purpose, was completely unnecessary, and very, very cruel. Would you feel the same way if some childhood dog or other pet was dragged along from the back of a truck?

I've written to my local PETA representative about the gator dragging, I'm sure there will be billboards all over America making fun of the pickup truck manufacturer and local road commissioner. I mean c'mon, don't they know that dragging is a carefully regulated activity in modern Texa...er Russia.

I also forwarded this story of extreme animal cruelty and hope they really take these backwards frogs to task...

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=s ... ce_duck_dc
PARIS (Reuters) - Select guests gathered at a top Paris restaurant on Tuesday to sample the one millionth duck to be snatched from grassy marshland, carefully strangled and ritually cooked with its own blood.

Here's somemore people who need to get a life...

http://www.itv.com/news/1528275.html
The breakthrough scientific study on rainbow trout claims to have uncovered evidence that fish have feelings, including stress and pain.

Animal rights activists have long dubbed fishing a cruel sport and demanded that Britain's 3.8 million anglers give up the activity.

The latest research was carried out by Edinburgh University and the Roslin Institute - the same laboratories where Dolly the sheep was born.

Actually the stress part is pretty important, and not just for fish. It has to do with the quality of the meat. If an animal is stressed a lot the quality of the meat goes down radically, and we all want good meat right?

the problem is simple. "regular" people, whether they are Brotha or the animal rights activists dont understand what a scientist means when he says that a fish experiences pain.

The news article writes that "fish have feelings". and that is where it all goes wrong. the article misleads because the author is ignorant.

well no shit fish can sense their environment. They have eyes, they "hear", if you touch them the swim away, they do what fish are evolved to do and that is stay alive long enough to make more fish.

Pain and stress are real, measurable physiological conditions. I'm not surprised that a lower vertebrate like a fish would experience these in part or wholly. All that we experience in the world did not enter the evolutionary picture at the singular moment of our inception - at the moment when the the horse femur became the hammer if you like 2001.

here is what is important to distinguish though. nocicetion (pain) and elevated glucocorticoids (common stress response in mammals anyways) do not equal "pain and suffering" in the common usage.

our understanding of what gives rise to 'conciousness' in ourselves is not yet complete, and as such we can not say what amount of cortex is required for this distributed phenomenon to arise. Following from that, we cannot say one way or the other if that phenomenon is restricted to only a handful of mammalian species, or perhaps a single non-extinct mammalian species.

I don't think that any scientist would try to tell you that a fish experienes "pain and suffering" in the manner that really resembles what we do.

Think of it as the difference between an acorn and an oak tree. The fish's mental state represented by an acorn, and ours by the tree, but things that clearly are related, and have common underlying mechanics.

the most important thing to note from the article is that it does not mention where these results were published - if at all.

until they are published in peer reviewed journals, you should read this article as simple a public relations effort on the behalf of the scientists.

I fail to see PETA mentioned anywhere in this article. I'm not sure what in this article was supposed to make me hate PETA, but it failed none the less. The kid said they'd seen aligators all day, and just got out of the water when they did, anyone with half a brain would have found a safer place to swim. You can't really blame the aligator for doing what aligators do.

Whats the connection Cart? A couple months ago, people talk and react to a story about an animal control officer's (inappropriate in most opinions) response to a gator in a residential neighbourhood, in front of kids. I think most of the parents should have had their kids out of the way, but thats another issue.

No one denied that they can be dangerous animals.

Now we have a story about a kid not heeding a buddy's warning and getting pulled under.

Seriously, how is this related, outside the need to exterminate stupid parents who refuse to properly supervise the activities or failing that, beat some common sense into the heads of their kids?

If that is indeed your best, I pity anyone exposed to your worst.

The glaring ignorance you display here is laughable at best, terrifying at worst. You are the stereotypical messageboard moron; not letting such trifles as facts, logic or reality influence your postings but Just Truckin' On! in that special way of yours.

Here's a clue:

Noone will buy The New And Improved Cartalas until you have proven that you aren't still a racist asshole. This is not a 17th century catholic church where you gain absolution from saying 'I'm sorry, I screwed up' and paying 1500 VV's to the clergyman. If you are indeed trying to change, more power to you - but it's going to take more than a single post on the matter followed by you bringing up your newfound tolerance in every other thread to convince me.
