I can't find any people that I know online, the server won't let me on half the time, and ... I suck at it.
TAKE PITY ON ME PLZ!

UT2003 is a far more accessible game than Planetside.Xouqoa wrote:I think I prefer UT2003 to PlanetSide, but I'll have to give it a bit more play before I can say for sure.
I'm usually on during UK daytime, give me a /tell!Drolgin Steingrinder wrote:Yes, it does!

TAKE PITY ON ME PLZ!
A lot of people say that but then forget to realize that they have been playing BF1942 for the past 8 months, which is also repetitive.Fairweather Pure wrote:So far PS is a needlessly more complex and futuristic version of Battlefield 1942. The learning curve is a bit too much for a FPS. It's also a bit too repetitive to pay a monthy fee IMO.
Well from what I gather the population (at absolute peak) is only around 1/2 of planned at the moment. So sure it's going to be somewhat uninhabited. OMGIAMRETARDEDCAUSEALOTISTWOWORDS of any MMOG map will be in beta.Fairweather Pure wrote:The killer is the monthly fee. If it's over $4.95 (which it will be) then I simply do not see myself playing for more than a month or so. It really is the same thing over and over and over. Battles are condensed to an extremely tiny area, even though the "world" is huge. Those tiny areas are generally cut and paste battles with very little use of cover, terrain, or surprise. Sure, once in awhile you can use all 3 of those, but generally once things get underway, it's cut/paste tactics.
Well, I'd have to disagree with the rock/scissors/paper. In many cases a little thought and planning/use of above cover/terrain/surprise can make a huge difference. You can easily take out an enemy max as infantry (indoors) if you use fighting retreat, grenades, exploit their slow movement for example. Kilmoll mentioned flying low through hills in Mosquito to find phoenix's. Would anyone call Mosquito vs. Phoenix fair? I'd say the game has so many variables for use of tactics and strategy that if you say it's rock/scissors/paper you must be missing something pretty big.Furthermore, the battles are generally rock/scissors/paper. If you have rock and they have paper, just bend over because you're fucked. I also dislike having to travel 3-4 minutes to get to a battle only to be capped with 2 shots from someone I never even see, respawn, reload my weapon layout, remake another vehicle, then get capped all over again. I consider it a victory when I take out 2+ guys before I die. In a full-on firefight, I'm fucking impressed if I last more than 2 minutes before it's back to the spawn point for another weapons/vehicle load out. That 2 minutes isn't spent fighting either. It's spent trying to figure out who the fuck is shooting me and from where.
Well, I think you're expecting FAR too much at this stage in the beta, many people have only been playing for a week or two, testing new factions, messing around. The outfit system isn't in place, squads are generally pickup. Why would there be communication or planning? I think that shit comes in the mature stages of a game, not in betaPlanetside is a mess right now IMO. Sure, tactics will be refined and the game certianly strives to offer more depth and planning than the average FPS. However, in the end I think it fails due to a critical lack of communication and diversity in gameplay objectives. Maybe once I get the voice commands working it will change my opinion. However, right now I'm playing every night to test for bugs and do my part to Beta test the game and nothing more. Right now the frustration factor far outweighs the fun factor. I fully admit that the potential is immense, and that alone would be the main reason I continue playing after Beta.
Fair enough on the free play, I think that's where PS will stand or fall. I know I don't mind paying for it, hell 10-15 bucks is what I spend on 3 drinks in bar in an hour.I see PS doing very well for the first couple of moths, then fading out as players get bored and reconsider the monthy expense. Maybe I'll be wrong though.
BF1942 >>> Planetside
Better battles, better graphics, better areas to fight, and just more fun IMO. Oh yeah, it's also free to play.
Yeah, we're all still Terrans.Fairweather Pure wrote:Btw, I haven't overlooked the possibility that I just plain suck. Or, at the very least, I need to put in even more time to find my role.
To be honest, I would consider myself easily above average at twitch games and I am more than a little surprised to have my ass handed to me more often than not in PS. I'll try a new toon tonight and keep searching for the my best role.
I'll be on JimmyPopAli tonight, servers willing. We all still terrans?
I wasn't run down. I blew the damn thing up, but I was standing too close. Took out the driver tho.kurzweil wrote:Saw the Dirty Dozen in action last night, and they were quite the sight to behold. Although seeing Aranuil run down by an ANT was a bit of a letdown
The best part of the Harasser IMHO is the ability to drive it while wearing a reinforced Exosuit.Salis wrote:I like the Harrasser/Sniper set up for outdoors, Harrasser is decent, can off-road well, and you can transport one person in it as a gunner. Then switching to MAX/Combat Engineer for base assault as needed. Once they fix engineer grief, combat engineering is great fun for defence too
You may be right about special assault, but I really like the Decimator /shrug.Zamtuk wrote:Special Assault is a fucking waste of 3 cert points.
Mine will go as follows in order:
Infil - 2
Wraith - 2
Hack - 3
Adv Hack - 2
Reaver - 4
AMS - 2
Medium Assault - 2
Sniping - 3
Reinforced Exo Suit - 3
Implants:
Regeneration
Darklight (so funny to see other stealthers)
Adv Targeting
There will very likely be such an outfit that will consist of mostly VV posters, and their friends. It will not be a 'whomever applies gets in' type of outfit. If people are good players, who are willing to work together in a team to accomplish the goals of the game, they'll get in for sure.Ebumar wrote:Are we making a VV outfit? I think we should...
