Xatrei wrote:Ok, first of all, my response wasn't directed to anyone in particular, so I'm not sure why you're being so defensive, bordering on hostile. Secondly, regardless of whether someone thinks the question is silly or slanted isn't really the point. I chose to quote their response to the "slanted" accusation because I thought it went a ways towards providing an explanation of their methodology and why they chose to use these specific positions in the manner which they did. In that regard, I think it's totally relevant. I'm not saying it's a perfect test. I'm sure that there are any number of legitimate questions or issues that can be raised with it by persons with a sociological, political science or statistical analysis background, I just thought that the most common criticism that I've seen leveled here seems to be misplaced and is explained rather well in the FAQ that I linked, and in the response that I quoted in particular.
I saw only one person say that it might be slanted (Miir). I'm sorry you felt the need to justify something that nobody questioned. Maybe you were the one being too defensive over a poll that you had nothing to do with putting together. Thinking that my response was borderline hostile is hilarious.

Jesus dude. This is probably the least controversial or inflammatory thing that I've said on this board in I don't know how long, and you want to pick a fight over it for some reason. Maybe you're just bored and just want to mix it up or something. Whatever.

At no point did I say that "slanted" was the most common criticism, I merely quoted that portion of their FAQ because their answer seems relevant to the discussion in this thread, and I said as much before. I'm sorry that I didn't spell things out sufficiently for your seemingly underdeveloped comprehension abilities to grasp. I give some of you too much credit in that regard, apparently. My failure here is that rather than explicitly restating the most common complaint, that the questions are silly/dumb/vague/slanted/don't include a totally neutral answer (all slightly different, but thematically related), I merely alluded to it. For your benefit, I'll make a mental note not to engage in such "complex" conversational conventions in the future. I assumed that what constitutes the most common complaint(s) would be apparent to anyone that has been following the thread. To restate, whether the questions seem silly, slanted or whatever isn't the point. I thought a link to their own explanation of their methodology might add to the discussion about the test. The rest of their FAQ is interesting also.

Who's hostile now?

Seriously, I was only pointing out that the common concern in the particular FAQ question you posted was not an issue here (questions being slanted). I am sorry that you are unable to grasp this, and I will try to make it a point to spell things out in short words for you in the future. I loved that they felt the need to include the following statement:
Incidentally, our test is not another internet personality classification tool. The essence of our site is the model for political analysis. The test is simply a demonstration of it.

Yes, I'm getting hostile because your apparent stupidity here is working my nerves. I fully understand that the concern about questions being slanted is not one that was raised (much) in this thread. Again, that's irrelevant. My point is that their response to the "slanted" question is relevant to the other criticisms leveled within this thread. I've stated this in my previous posts, and you seem to have either failed to understand it or have chosen to ignore it. How many different ways would you like me to say this?

Try six more. I understand your feelings towards getting the last word in during inconsequential arguments, and I am having fun seeing how far off your rocker you're going to go on this one. This was a typical myspace-era survey that doesn't amount to anything.

I think some of the "right wing nut jobs" that are showing up as left of centre on those quizzes should go back and answer the questions with this mindset: What if the proposition only applies to other people, and not me. In doing this, you should consider everyone in the world, not just Americans. You should also consider the *bad* people, like the terrorists.

OK, now let's see how left you are.

I don't want to call all ya'll liars, but I do think you're deluding yourself.

e.g. This is what your compass looks like when I answer the questions for you, based on what you've said on here in the past:

And this is what you think you are:

Wow, zaelath, way to be an arrogant douche, I knew we could count on you.

I answered exactly as you said, imagine that! Maybe you just aren't all knowing like you think and don't have everyone pegged as well as you think you do.

What exactly would be my (or anyones) reason to give misleading answers? I personally can say I've spoke on vv on topics related to maybe 5 questions on all those tests combined..

Arrogance: offensive display of superiority or self-importance; overbearing pride.

As in, your feelings of self importance and superiority are displayed perfectly by your attempt to patronize me.

That's the best you can do? Provide one scenario out of many possible scenarios for one of my answers? Would that have pushed me way over where you claim I should be? I believe it's good to question all kinds of authority (not just the government), but I also think there are situations where there are things we don't need to know and have to trust (or at least hope) the government doesn't fuck it up. Makes perfect sense to me.

As I said, I was on the way out the door.

There are any number of posts from any number of people (Midnyte was the King) that spent a lot of time proclaiming that the government (president) should not be questioned, and you trailed along behind them singing "America, Fuck Yeah!".

How many examples would I have to farm out of your long history of not believing what you profess before you would accept there was a disparity? I think the answer is: infiinte. This despite the fact that logic dictates that in order to disprove a claim you only have to provide one counter example.

There were other examples before question 23 that I recall you having posted to the contrary of what you answered, but I didn't have time to go find the actual quotes. I think we can agree that doing so would be a waste of time because there wouldn't be enough of them.

OH, and by the way, you might want to go and google the definition of "ALL".

Re: Political Questionnaire

Post by Keverian FireCry »

I love how people act as if random tests by random people/organizations somehow tell a greater truth than what we've all displayed over YEARS of political and social discourse on VV...

I think these these tests have value, but stop questioning where your own dot or someone elses dot lies.

These tests, if anything, take our political/philosophical discussions and compacts them into something less than a fucking soundbite.

It's a fucking dot... on a fucking chart. A chart as meaningful or meaningless as what fucking 'Sex and the City' or 'Lord of the Rings' character you are.

Take if for what it is or shut the fuck up and move on.

I highly doubt anyone said they shouldn't be questioned, but, there's a difference between questioning something and attacking as if you 100% sure that they're wrong.

As much as you might consider me in that group, I question them all the time... I love conspiracy theories and part of me thinks both parties are sock puppets for our amusement and the illusion of debate, while the decision is predetermined.

Sounds like a bunch of bullshit to me, probably because that's what it is.

Even if you could dig back 7 years and fine another example or two (I have my doubts you could), when I started posting here I was 20, I'm 27 now and my views on a lot of things have changed, cause you know, that happens to some people.

I don't know why you get such a sense of satisfaction out of being a prick and going on campaigns like this. Pathetic.

You're obviously a delusional liar then, cause zaelath said he knows what you really think and you should be to the right.

I would be more right if they would ask me if I was a bitter gun owner clinging to my religion

At least I don't worship guns and a book of fairy tales with a bunch of fictional characters in it.

giving up your right to defend yourself does not make you smarter, but it does make you lower on the food chain

I'm not trying to insinuate that I'm a badass, 'cause I'm not. However, I don't need a gun to defend myself. You don't either.

that is your opinion. You are entitled to not carry and I am entitled to not have you oppress my right to carry. I have never advocated forcing you to own or carry a firearm...so why are you all hell bent on removing my rights that are expressly written into our constitution?

I'm not. The Second Amendment to the Constitution will never be overturned. You can cling to your guns if you want to, but it's unnecessary.
