They're talking about MMO's coming to the PS3 thanks to SoE. DC Universe at the moment with Jim Lee.

Looks like the 80GB is now completely dropping back compat. It's also dropping to 399$ pricepoint.
Does this mean that the 40GB PS3 will be phased out?

Uhhhh....there will be no Japan FF13 360 version, which seems pretty odd and kind of defeats the entire purpose of the 360 JRPG press, which was to get a foothold in the Japanese console market. I also don't buy into the whole concept that they went multiplatform to reach a wider audience, because all Square has ever cared about are the Japanese sales numbers and they would have tried to port the thing to the Wii if that were the case.
360 sales in Japan have been pitiful.
The 360 is a non-player in the Japanese market.
If there is no 360 release of FF13 in Japan, it will be inconsequential.
If you think Square doesnt give a shit about sales outside of Japan, you're a total fucking dipshit.
Despite what all the moron fanboys are predicting, I'm sure all 3 consoles will continue to have strong sales for the rest of 2008 and well into 2009.

That did look like a cool game. I don't think it will be the best ever open world game like they are claiming but it definitely looks like it will be worth checking out if you have a PS3.Animalor wrote:Infamous looks like a cross between Force Unleashed and Crackdown. Looks interesting.

Some interesting stuff overall in the Sony presser. Infamous and MAG looks cool. Fat Princess looks like a pile of win.
Waaayy too much emphasis on Cell capabilities, the PSP, PS2 and other fringe stuffs.
How far off do you think God of War 3 is? 2010?
The megaton that Sony needed wasn't there.

Except that their lack of interest in NA sales (compared to Japanese sales) are why there were no FF Tactics sequals for, like over a decade. It was poorly recieved in Japan, while having enourmous success here, at least in initial release. This is one example among many similar situations. Granted, since they merged with Enix, this has altered somewhat, but they have a well established history of being mainly focused on Japanese sales.miir wrote:If you think Square doesnt give a shit about sales outside of Japan, you're a total fucking dipshit.
War is an option whose time has passed. Peace is the only option for the future. At present we occupy a treacherous no-man's-land between peace and war, a time of growing fear that our military might has expanded beyond our capacity to control it and our political differences widened beyond our ability to bridge them. . . .
Short of changing human nature, therefore, the only way to achieve a practical, livable peace in a world of competing nations is to take the profit out of war.
--RICHARD M. NIXON, "REAL PEACE" (1983)
"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, represents, in the final analysis, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children."

Resident Evil 5 and Gears of War2 look so amazing. I'm rigid over online coop story mode for RE5. GoW2 looks like more of the same. Same AWESOME. The new multiplayer mode sounds fun as hell to.

I don't know if I totally agree here. I think SE knows that FF is just as popular in America as Japan and that of those Americans, a larger majority own a 360. The 360 is an utter failure inJapan so why bother spending the cash to distribute something that won't sell over there?Jice Virago wrote:

I think this is more of a case of they were making a PC version anyhow and MS was prepared to suck Squares cock to the tune of a few million, just to maintain their edge over Sony in the NA market.

FFXIII looks great. I'm betting we don't see it until at least March of '09 if not later though. Remember when peeps thought it would come out for Xmas '07?
MS may have given SE some cash but I think SE also understands, like so many Playstation fanbois didn't, that the same console doesn't dominate every generation and they stand to make lots of money selling their primary games on the 360 this round.

Wow.. the biggest possible exclusive for the PS3 has bailed on them. Is nothing sacred?
I am totally against exclusives, so grats MS on an epic win here. FF doesn't interest me, though.

I'd like to touch base again on how god awful Wii Music looked. There is no point to the game at all. It will be 50 musical insturments that people can "play" by shaking their wiimotes around. You cannot mess up the tracks. There are no scores, stats, or even a point to the game. It is a musical sandbox, and nothing more. The instruments don't even sound real! They all sound like they went through a "Mario Paint" filter.
I just can't believe that was Nintendo's big reveal.

I watched a video on Guitar Hero World Tour and it looks like they did a nice job in catching up with Rock Band.
That strum/tap new guitar looks interesting and the drum set looks better than Rock Band's. I haven't seen a review of Rock Band 2 yet though.

I like the 360's announcements as I am going to be using live in a few months as we upgrade to wireless in our house. But to be honest, the exclusive software for the PS3 is much better than that of the 360 this coming year. It won't be enough for me to buy one, but I can see them having a very good future because they have tried to focus on exclusive content. Infamous looks particularly good and that was a pretty cool segment from Resistance 2.
Wii was never my interest, I still don't care about it, and their press conference was extraordinarily weak. I like how Reggie mentioned that they released all of the nin favorites early on to get the zombies on board, and now they are putting together games for "everyone". I also like that nin consistently bilks their user base with things that should have been there to begin with (super sensitive wii mote attach thingy). People are still buying it in droves though, and I am sure a lot of those people don't even know what E3 even is.

For anyone playing the Too Human demo, someone in the community posted a way to play any of the 5 classes in the demo.Funkmasterr wrote:Too Human demo!? Fuck, I'm not going to be able to focus on a damn thing for the rest of the day.
Disconnect your ethernet and set your date to something past 8/20/2008. This will unlock 2 more characters. Then there is a bug in the selection process where you put select one of the remaining locked characters and start pounding A button. The check to see if you can hit A happens before the game actually selects the class.
So select locked char A to the right of Char B. Start pounding A while you push towards char B. It will see Char B is selectable, but char A will still be highlighted and you can play them.

Off the top of my head:
360-
Too Human
Gears of War 2
Halo Wars
Fable 2
Infinite Undiscovery
Tales of Vesperia
Two Worlds: The temptation
PS3:
Infamous
Resistance 2
Gran Turismo (fucking yawn)
I mean there really is no comparison between the two, the 360's exclusives are blowing the PS3's out of the water, and that's because MS has the cash to get exclusives and is ready to pay through the teeth for them, Sony is still relying on their name and they are now seeing just how much that name doesn't mean.

Awesome! I played through the demo as the champion class, but I guess I'll have to do this and play again

I just played through as a Berkerker. Didn't change much of anything really since the area you have doesn't really give you much of a chance to play with the skills.
That being said, this game is really growing on me. Looking more and more like a purchase.

you may also want to fill a few more exclusive titles in the blanks such as DC Universe Online, Killzone 2, MAG, and of course GoW3. Whether you prefer the 360's titles announced is up to you personal opinion. I don't particularly care about mediocre japan rpg's, I didn't get them on my ps2 and I won't be getting them on the 360 either. That's the three games we didn't know about in advance on your brief list. Anyone can poke holes in any exclusive lineup, it's all about what you prefer. I've probably played Forza 2 more than any other game on my 360. So while you yawn at GT, I would look forward to seeing the final product. It's the kind of game that could make me consider a PS3 (that and GoW3). I yawn at halo wars and the three jap rpgs.

I don't know much about Too Human but the rest of the 360 list holds little interest to me.
I don't like shooters on consoles so Gears of War and Halo War are of no iterest to me.
There's been a deluge of mediocre Japanese RPGs in the past few years and none of the announced games look to change that trend.
Fable2 looks promising but I can wait until it comes out on PC.

What precisely was wrong with the way I communicated? I see no possible way any mentally fit person could possibly think the PS3 lineup of exclusives comes anywhere near the 360's, so why should I skirt around the issue?
I will give you Killzone 2, I forgot about that. However any comic book video game isn't even worth reading about imo, let alone playing. I don't know what you are referencing when you say GoW3 (oh yeah, god of war).. But that acronym is now reserved for a game far superior to it, and to any other game that will ever be made, Gears of War. I'll let you off the hook for making the mistake once, but try not to do it again

The God of War franchise is older, more innovative and more entertaining than the Gears of War franchise. It gets to keep GoW if it wants.
Gears of war held my interest for like 2 afternoons. Halo 3's multiplayer was much better. The only "innovative" thing about Gears of War was the cover system, which wasn't unique to that game or even created by it, and was implemented better in other games.

The one flaw that I found in Gears of War is the matchmaking system, and it is not the worst of it's kind. It was a little better to begin with, when you could see the hosts name of the game in ranked matches so you could join a friends game (people whining about stacked teams should be banned from video games), but even then it needed help.Sylvus wrote:What distinguishes Gears of War, or makes it superior to any other FPS (let alone "any other game that will ever be made")?
-The cover system that was implemented in Gears of War is/was the best implementation of a cover system in a game ever. If this cover system was stolen from elsewhere, you show me where.
-The story was superior to most shooter games (definitely anything made in the past 5 years)
-The mechanics of the game in general were very polished
-The maps were great
-The weapons actually worked and did the respective amount of damage a weapon should do (Almost any other game I can think of there are over/underpowered weapons - this wasn't a problem with GoW.)
-The character dialogue in the campaign was superior to almost any shooting game ever (again, definitely in the past 5 years.)
-The level of gore owned
-Chainsaw kills (duh)
To name a few qualities that set it above any other game. I just think it was the best rounded shooting game I have played in a long time, and probably my personal favorite ever. The only thing absent would be large maps and vehicles in multiplayer, which did not fit into the gameplay model so it was perfectly logical and completely excusable imo that it was not there.

GoW (Gears of War) is very different than any other FPS I've ever played. Everything from controls and basic FPS strategy are completely retooled in that game. That's probbaly why I suck so much at it.
Even though I suck so bad at the game, which I absolutely do, I think it's carved out a very impressive niche for itself. It is a platform defining title, and for good reason. I may go play a bit later and suck at it some more.
Oh yeah, the graphics are some of the best I have ever seen. You can tell it isn't a first generation 360 game, that's for sure. The game is polished from beginning to end.

I said (in the past 5 years) because I thought Half Life 2 was older than that, and it was the only game I considered better than GoW in those categories. - I'm not saying they stole the cover system from somewhere else, I'm just saying that they didn't invent cover. Their implementation of cover was pretty good, but I don't think it was head and shoulders above even, say, GRAW.Funkmasterr wrote:The one flaw that I found in Gears of War is the matchmaking system, and it is not the worst of it's kind. - The story was pretty much boilerplate FPS. Your team of rough and tumble futuristic/space marines has to overcome ridiculous odds to rid a planet of aliens. "fucking yawn" (to put it into your own terms).
- I have no problem with the mechanics of the game. I also have no problem with the mechanics of most FPS titles on the 360.
-The maps were alright, again I don't see them as being anything vastly superior to a number of other games.
- Ditto the above for the weapons. I'm not sure if you have specific examples of weapons being over/underpowered in other games, but nothing is jumping out at me.
- I thoroughly enjoyed the dialogue in Gears of War. I'll agree with you that it was very good.
- The level of gore was acceptable. The blood splatter on the camera was a nice touch, but other than that I don't recall it being tremendously gory.
- Chainsaw kills were pretty cool, and employed the controller rumble to good effect, but tbh they got a little tiresome after you'd done it 50 times or so.
I think the multiplayer was implemented poorly, which is usually the most important thing to me in a FPS. Like I said, Halo 3 was much better from a multiplayer standpoint.
If you're evaluating it as a stand-alone, single-player FPS, I think Bioshock was superior in virtually every way, from story to graphics to atmosphere to voice acting and dialogue.
I may have been exaggerating earlier when I said that it only held my interest for a couple of afternoons. Gears of War was a fun game, and definitely took a few steps forward in terms of FPS. I just don't think it was any better than the third best 360 FPS released in 2007 (i could be remembering wrong, and it might have been released in 2006), let alone THE BEST GAME EVAR.

I just explained to you why I think the exclusives announced for the PS3 are more interesting than the ones for the 360. There are plenty of mentally fit people who would think that. I'm not sure why having different tastes all of the sudden make someone mentally unfit. You are coming off like a fanboy, hence the "grow up and communicate like an adult comment". I own the 360, not a PS3. I like what PS3 has coming down it's exclusive pipeline more than the 360.What precisely was wrong with the way I communicated? I see no possible way any mentally fit person could possibly think the PS3 lineup of exclusives comes anywhere near the 360's, so why should I skirt around the issue?

When I see games on PS3 I may want, all I can think of is all the money I'm forced to save by not buying more games! I spend enough on 360 and PC already.
Silver lining and all that.
Btw, Little Big Planet should be on that list of Sony exclusives too!

Working at a hospital, doctors have hard-ons for acronyms and abbreviations. It's annoying as fuck. You see, the majority of doctors only really think about themselves. So, say they write "AP". Even though it could mean a great number of things in medical terminology, they expect that you would know what they meant based on their specialty. A cardiologist does not know or care that a gastroenterologist uses the same abbreviations and vice versa.
In short, I hate abbreviations and acronyms.
GRAW? Huh? I'm drawing a total blank here.

Anyone remember some of the crazy EQ acronyms?
I remember going into the Gates of Discord expansion on opening day and people were already using acronyms for everything and got pissed when you didn't know wtf they were talking about.

Gears of War CO-OP is the most fun I've even had in an FPS. The story doesn't have to be deep to be entertaining and immersive.
The game doesn't even have to be long if it's top quality which GoW was. A full weekend of entertainment with a friend made GoW worth the...well, worth the hour it took me to download.
-Best Co-Op
-Best Graphics
-Immersive
-Well paced
Innovation is overrated in games sometimes. Superbad didn't do anything different but it was a funny movie. Empire Strikes Back didn't add much different in Special Effects over Star Wars but most consider it the better movie.

I probably spent 8-10 months playing Gears of War 5-10 hours a day. That is so much more time than I've ever spent playing a FPS (hell, any console game for that matter) game that it isn't even worth making the comparison.

The company I work for is the same way. I submitted feedback on an initiative being rolled out and asked that our Favorite Acronym Department (FAD) put more thought into the use of Acronyms without defining them after they tried to release a product using APR as the only description when it had nothing to do with Interest. I received feedback that my feedback was not funny. I actually ran it by the Site Director before sending it, and she thought it was overly fitting.
As for God of War, I have never played it on any platform (PS2/3/P). I missed out on the backwards compatible PS3's, and I don't plan on buying one until they bring it back in some form.
