Heath Ledger as the Joker?
I just don't see him being it. They had a chance to retell the story of the Joker and, in my opinion, they dropped the ball.

I don't know if I would discount someone's casting just having seen the link on IMDB. Wait till a trailer is out or something.
I've found him relatively entertaining in a few movies that he's been in, and I'm sure they'll have like makeup and costumes to make him look like the Joker.
After Batman Begins, I'm in the camp that this crew can hardly do any wrong.

You suggesting Jim Carey would be a good Joker? Although I think he's a MUCH better actor now than he was when he was riddler, I think he should stick to the serious roles for a bit.Leonaerd wrote:Ugh. Jim Carey as Joker prz.
I don't mind seeing good actors expand their horizons. His IMDB bio says he's a talented comedic actor but likes to take serious roles.Leonaerd wrote:But Heath Ledger?? That man has no joke in him.

This Joker is going to be in theme with the first Batman. He'll be a psycho killer, first and foremost. I don't forsee any of the Jack Nicolson whackiness crossing over into this incarnation of Batman.
Read the series or TPB "The Killing Joke". That is the type of Joker you'll be seeing. It is what inspired Chris Nolan to include the Joker as a villian in the sequel.

Yep, that and Dark Knight Returns was the first good Batman stories i ever read (ill discount the superman/batman/krypto the superdog/superhorse/whatever i read in kindergardenLynks wrote:That was the first Batman series I ever read. I got it as a birthday present many years ago. I love the ending.
And i think Heath Ledger would be able to do a good joker, if we mold Joker after the Killing Joke version.
[hide]Oh, and btw, read an interview with Alan Moore, where he regretted making it, he didnt intend it to be a part of the official Batman universe, but he kinda created Oracle and reinvented Jokers origin there
And yeah, the ending is great, just having Batman and Joker laughing like madman at the insane spiral theyre creating for each other is great

If you're curious what Heath Ledger is going to look like as the Joker. Personally, I like it. I like it a lot.

For some reason he's reminding me of The Crow, not the Joker.

Friend of mine pointed this out the other day (besides them being new pics). If you look at the guy, second from the left, got his finger to his lips. Looks a lot like Cillian Murphy, hes only rumored to be in The Dark Knight, but I reckon this could be solid. Is it just us, or does anyone else thinks thats Cillian?

Re: The Dark Knight
Definitely looks like him. I hope he is in the movie. He was great as Scarecrow, but lacked screen time in Batman Begins.
Having Scarecrow return in the sequels makes a lot of sense considering the theme of fear that dominated the first movie and has always been an inspiration for Bruce Wayne's alter-ego.

I believe he was confirmed as being in this film several months ago. He'll be one of the Joker's underlings. The pics look like they are from the parking ramp fight with Batman that has been shooting in Chicago.

He smiled, but it was somewhat of a delirious "I'm off my rocker and about to beat you down for killing me and my girl" type smile.
Also I do recall him painting up with red lipstick into an exaggerated smile right after he comes back to their apt.

New poster is out. That is seriously one of the coolest promotional posters ever. I'm not just saying that because it's the Dark Knight. It captures the feel of what they're going for with this version of Batman films. I have no doubt this is going to be a hell of a movie.
Also, a pirated IMAX preview is out there (finally a true trailer instead of a teaser), but I'll just wait for the offical web release.

For those that are unaware, the viral marketing for this movie is pretty cool. That movie poster had a message at the bottom underneath the official movie website that simpy said "atasteforthetheatric".
That is actually a hint for : http://atasteforthetheatrical.com/
Looks like a high def trailer by Sunday or Monday. Cool stuff!

On a whim, I called the subcription line for The Gothem Times. I got a voice recording from the newspaper saying that they will only be offering news on the website for the time being due to damage sustained to it's printing equipment. Pretty cool stuff!

Re: The Dark Knight
The Gotham PD seriously underpays new officers (ad on page 4, heh). The only other links I noticed were for the letterstotheeditor@thegothamtimes.com on page 2, and the "tear" on the front page that you can drag open. Some humorous stories if you look through the four pages. I didn't call the number though

There's a direct link. I suggest the DL.
I've also read a description about the first 6 minutes shown at Imax theaters over the weekend. Sounds like they set the Joker up very, very well. Not only is he nuts, he's also a criminal mastermind.

Re: The Dark Knight
Seems this has nothing to do with comic "The dark knight returns" wich was what i was hoping for.

Re: The Dark Knight
Lol, did you really expect that to happen? As much as i would LOVE a DKR movie, its basically the END of Batmans career, not the start, wouldn't make any sense to make a semi-last movie as the 2nd movie in a successfull series.Cracc wrote:Seems this has nothing to do with comic "The dark knight returns" wich was what i was hoping for.![]()

My thoughts exactely. I have no idea how or why you would have expected such a story from the second film in this incarnation of the franchise.Hesten wrote:Lol, did you really expect that to happen? Re: The Dark Knight
I still think Joker looks like a demented Crow. Seeing the trailer just reinforces that.
Re: The Dark Knight
Well, if you go for the Joker origin from Killing Joke, his makeup are a LOT more realistic than the normal comic book look. Actually, just checked Wikipedia, ALL origin stories do involve a chemical bath, resulting his his green hair, white skin, and wierd grin.Siji wrote:I still think Joker looks like a demented Crow. Having that ragged and hurt look on the skin of his face just show what the chemicals did to him.

Re: The Dark Knight
This is the only Joker origin that will not involve a chemical bath. Btw, When I saw the Crow, I always thought he looked like a rip off of the Joker. The Joker came first, by a long shot. I guess it would follow a person's progression through comic books and popular culture on which of the two characters they identified with first.

I was just talking to my wife about the comparison (imo) of this.. me thinking he looked like a demented crow in his latest movie and Brandon who played the Crow - both dying around the time of their newest movie. A stretch, but ah well.noel wrote:It'll have the effect of selling more tickets.
