Yep. Arizona's 3rd string QB was beaten by Carolina's 43 year old 4th string QB. I knew Warner was fragile but he barely lasted a couple minutes before going down.Kilmoll the Sexy wrote:Shocking development....Kurt Warner hurt. Bye bye Cardinals season. Thanks for being.....you.
With no Warner, the season is over. Rattay didn't accomplish anything on the field.

That's actually what I meant by saying a problem with the NFL and sports in general. You are correct, the problem isn't with the sports directly, but with the media who's job is to report on those sports.Aslanna wrote:I didn't get that from the article. Re: NFL Thread
Honestly I thought the ESPN article more suited to the clusterfuck that is NCAA football rankings than anything else. It paid attention to a few issues that did crop up in the NFL season and were erroneously reported on/excessively commented on but relying on computer sim and a vote to determine your rankings is fucked: its a breeding ground for "opinion based reporting" because thats what defines it.
Random thoughts from Sunday and tonight:
- damn the Patriots look nasty. Is there any defense that can stop them? We can talk about how Dallas played "nobody" but they had to and were executing pretty well. Hell its not even as if the Cowboys' offense was bad its just the defense couldn't stop that train...
- about time they started relying on LT in San Diego. Too bad it took em that long to figure it out.
- what a boring game the Saints and Seahawks was. Maybe thats how the Saints can win again: bore everyone to sleep and score on the snoozes.
- Winnow's hero Favre breaks another record... but did he really want to?
- whats the over-under on the number of starting QBs they need in Arizona this year?
- I've been on the "laugh at Joey" bandwagon a lot but I felt sorry for him tonight. He didn't look as bad as just about everyone else on the field with him.
- why are people always harping about Eli Manning being a questionable QB? OK sure he's not his Hall Of Fame bound brother (yet?) but he still looks like a pretty solid young QB.

I hadn't heard what repercussions were going to happen after his comments, but when I heard him talking about Theisman, I was like "wtf? is MNF really going to let him go on like this??" Not that I give a shit what he says about Theisman, I just thought that the WWL would get their panties in a bunch. Apparently they did.

I'm glad Kimmel (apparently) said what i had been yelling at the tv everytime Theissman opened his giant, stupid mouth. Everyone always kissed his ass and noone questioned him when he said something really fucking stupid (which was really often).
I'm so glad Theissman's not on air anymore. I didn't witness the comments live because I had no interest in watching that game. I did hear one from the embedded video in the link provided, it was mildly humorous. I honestly don't see what the big deal is. You invited a comedian to sit in on a football game. He is going to crack jokes, that's what he does for a living. What the hell did you expect?

Re: NFL Thread
I don't think Kimmel was pro or against Theissman. I couldn't stand Theissman either, but I actually like him better than Cornheisser... He was more just joking about the fact that Joe wasn't there anymore, and that it was because he and Tony didn't get along. It was pretty funny except that the guys in the booth didn't just laugh it off because they're a bunch of tight-asses.
For anyone that can get access to this morning's Dan Patrick show, his comments about Tony were spot on. He's great on PTI, but not suited for being the third man in the booth (when he's supposed to be the first). Patrick stated that he was a proponent of Tony going there, but that overall the chemistry is bad, and it has a lot to do with ESPN listening to waaaaay too many focus groups about their programming.

I should further qualify...I've only watched one MNF game this year. I first took notice last year, that all MNF games throughout the year were the most horribly, uninteresting matchups possible in football. Sunday night games, on the other hand, are some of the greatest, most interesting matchups of the season.
They could stick Big Bird and the Hamburgler in the booth for MNF...I wouldn't really notice.

I've noticed that too...I think the flexible scheduling needs to be expanded, but I am not really aware of the pros/cons of the issue, other than me getting to see more interesting games than Giants vs Falcons (which probably would have been a much more entertaining game had Michael Vick been on the field).Truant wrote:I should further qualify...I've only watched one MNF game this year. As for announcers: I really like Jaws and Tirico, and more and more, I am feeling the same way many of the people here feel about Kornheiser on MNF. I think that if they replaced him with Kimmel (who is very knowledgeable about football, and a comedian), it would be a great change overall (i'm disregarding chemistry, just like the execs who pick the announcers in footballs these days though!).
I think Kimmel (and Theissman, not that he should have been insulted) handled the situation well, and for any person who read OMGIAMRETARDEDCAUSEALOTISTWOWORDS about sports, it made the person in charge of MNF look like an idiot. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/w ... index.html there's the link i'm drawing that conclusion from.

I want to reemphasize... I watched it live and I don't think at all that Joe was the one being insulted. I saw it as fun teasing of both ESPN and Tony with no disrespect directed at Joe. You might think openly stating that Joe's not there is disrespectful until you realize that... JOE'S NOT THERE. It's pretty obvious and saying it shouldn't be grounds for never being invited back to ESPN.
Also, Tru I think the games have been pretty good this year on MNF. I'm not saying the matchups have been great, but the games have at least been watchable.

I watched it live too and it is not really that big of an issue. He was obviously joking about the supposed issues between Tony and Joe. Theismann came and spoke at a company event I was at about 14 years ago. He is a great public speaker, but man he was an arrogant prick.

Play of the Year makes Canelek cry: 340 lb Shaun Rogers intercepting a Patrick Ramsay pass and running 66 yards for the TD in Detroit yesterday as the Lions D-line outscores the Broncorpses 14-7. Question: was he really stiff arming Selvin Young or just club him incidentally while swimming the arms to help him get that last 10 yards to the endzone? Poor bastard probably hasn't run that far in ages.
And yes I was sad when Evil vanquished Good in "superbowl 41.5" (Ditka never said who was who in the pregame but I knew!). I can admire the talent and skill displayed but I just don't like something about the Patriots.

Arizona rivalries:
Arizona Cardinals: ??? competence ???
Arizona Diamondbacks: ??? lack of cash to purchase a second world series ???
Phoenix Suns: I guess we can say San Antonio until Steve Nash's back falls apart in another two years, then ???
Phoenix Coyotes: ??? federal gambling prosecutions ???
Arizona State University Sun Devils: University of Arizona Wildcats
University of Arizona Wildcats: Arizona State University Sun Devils
Woo tradition!
What a weird NFL season this has become. Can anyone see anybody besides the Colts or Patriots winning the Super Bowl? I guess the Cowboys and the Giants might be the best of the rest, but we've got a pretty dominant top two and a pretty massive, underwhelming second tier.

No one looks even close to the Pats and Colts. I think that if they pull it together, Dallas and San Diego have a shot, but it looks worse for San Diego every week. Maybe the Cleveland Browns?

Patriots and Colts appear to be the only teams capable of winning it all this year barring serious injuries.
They are like the Spurs and Suns (and Mavs although they somehow managed to lose to the Heat) of football! ...same conference but whoever wins will cruise in the final championship game.

D'Backs: Rockies, just starting though.
Cardinals: they blow, but I'll keep rooting for them.

That may be, but the Pats are still the only unbeaten team in the AFC. How come no one thinks green bay is a legit contender in the NFC? They have a tougher schedule than the pats. I think New Orleans looks like they may be on their way back. Their division is not that soft but I think they got a shot to make it to the superbowl. Another team that shouldn't be overlooked is Tennessee.
I have a friend who is from Minnesota and he was pissed at their draft pick of Adrian Peterson. Back then I told him he was going to LOVE the guy and he didn't believe me. Being from Oklahoma, I had several opportunities to watch Peterson both live and on TV. He is a fucking machine.

Green Bay does look pretty legit, but I still feel that the Pats or Colts would tear them apart.
NO seems to have figured out that they're still very good at offense, hopefully they keep it up, they have been an exciting team to watch again.
As for Detroit: The last three games have almost looked like a different team than the start of the season, both of which they were pretty good. Granted, they haven't been able to beat anyone in the NFC East (they were beat up by the eagles and the redskins in their two losses), but at the start of the season it was all on Kitna offense wise. Now they seem to have a good RB who they are going to actually use (what has happened to Tatum Bell?, did they just say "fuck you" when he talked about being traded before the deadline?). I hope they make the playoffs and make it past the first round, it will be fun to see Optimus Prime and Megatron in the playoffs.

Taters was traded to Detroit because there was no way he was going to be the featured back in Denver, and Bly wanted out of Detroit...worked out pretty well--until Jim Bates was brought onboard (and not having 9 or so other guys good enough to play defense). =/

Re: NFL Thread
Favre is doing well this year although he's been close to throwing picks on several of his circus throws and has just been lucky so far. It's just a matter of time! You'll see...like when it counts in the playoffs! Good for him though. He's doing way better than I thought he was capable of up to this point.
So, holding a team to -18 yards isn't worthy of mention these days? Has some other team held an opponent to less rushing yards in the past 40 years? (I don't know, someone look it up!)
I've noticed a lot of the arguments against the teams I support are starting to fall along these lines..."they won...but they looked bad winning!" while the counter argument is, "my team lost to a team with no legs or arms but that team won a title in some lower conference in the past!"

Re: NFL Thread
-18 rushing is impressive I guess. Detroit did only have 8 rushing attempts the whole game, and we're not talking about a premiere team or anything. The last time DET made the playoffs was like '99, definitely not in this century at least. And under Millen they've been utter shite. I picked Detroit to win in my pool and I imagine most of the others did too. So good job I guess. In spirit of your last post, Arizona won, BUT they played a team that has had a track record on par with the Retardinals for awhile now.

They beat the Steelers and beat Detroit. Cincinnati is up next! I want to sweep the midwest/eastern yahoos on this board! I don't care if they look bad doing it.

Re: NFL Thread
I guess when your team is the dregs of the NFL, the highlight of your year will be beating the Steelers and Detroit. The thing that should embarass you is that losing to you means nothing to us except as a bump on the road to yet another playoff berth. The Steelers have won more Super Bowls than you have playoff appearances.

It's just like in College Football. I don't care how many cheesy teams OhioSU beats, I'm interested in head to head matchups and when it comes to that, Arizona has scoreboard over the midwest (and PA!), in the current season. (but they looked bad in the wins!)
Cincinnati better bring their A game next Sunday or I'm getting out the broom!
