Winnow: I'm showing that opening the VG forum requires me to page down at least one page to see the actual posts in the VG forum.
Sylvus: I'm not trying to complain... Just a minor annoyance that maybe people aren't aware of. It's not urgent, it's not an emergency, and I'm not taking my ball and going home if it's not changed. My tone was supposed to be more of a, 'check this out...' than a 'oh god change it back' *snicker*

Oh, my God; I care so little, I almost passed out.
Re: oh god change it back
Off! It's really the most useless indicator. It's almost annoying as it distracts from seeing the other "red" indicator which means there's a new post.Sylvus wrote: I've also found the setting to turn the dot off of the thread title images. The dot is there to show if you've posted in that thread. If I hear emphatically either way, I'll turn the dot off or leave it on, but right now my inclination is to go with the default (on).
Is there a way for individuals to turn it on and off? I searched the preferences but couldn't find it.
If people need a red star to remind them that they've posted on a thread, we need an Alzheimer's forum added.
As for the sub forums, I'm just voicing my opinion. Not a big deal which way it ends up...but I think it would be a mistake to take away the general video/gaming forum or bury it even more. This is a debate forum first and foremost imo and removing all "general" type forums for areas would kinda suck. I've noticed that most shit gets answered/found in general forums on various boards that I've perused on the net.
'
The site development forum has always been buried and that was (and still is) on the front page.

It's not particularly useful on recent topics where you're going to remember posting, but when browsing through older topics it's a handy indicator of your posting history. I don't really see a compelling reason to turn it off since it's not really an intrusive or obnoxious indicator.Sylvus wrote: I've also found the setting to turn the dot off of the thread title images. Agree. If you know what it means, I don't really see how it's distracting.Xatrei wrote:It's not particularly useful on recent topics where you're going to remember posting, but when browsing through older topics it's a handy indicator of your posting history. Re: oh god change it back
I know that I can click on the forum name to get to it faster, but how will that help a person to know that there are new posts in that forum? You can currently only tell that there are new posts somewhere in that folder.

Re: oh god change it back
Using prosilver, next to each subforum there is a piece of paper with the upper right corner folded. If the piece of paper is blue, there are no new posts, but if it is red, there are new posts. No idea if that hapens in subsilver2 also.Boogahz wrote:I know that I can click on the forum name to get to it faster, but how will that help a person to know that there are new posts in that forum? That doesn't appear with subsilver (or whatever the "old-style" view is). It's just a text link.

Re: oh god change it back
Ok, these subforums are a pita...I cannot see any benefit other than less scrolling. It has been replaced with more clicking and new page loads.
Re: oh god change it back
I don't know.. I just live in "View new posts" mode. No useless clicking and pageloads for me. Just the occassional F5. You can easily see the forum the posts belong to and you can skip those topics if you want. Not a glorious solution but works for me. It beats embedded youtube links that's for sure!
The ability to unsubscribe to certain forums would be nice though so they didn't show up at all.

Re: oh god change it back
I'm still running into some "new posts" refusing to be marked as read though. I think it is only the Announcement thread though. Hell, if the "new posts" page is the answer, wtf are there subfolders/subforums for anyhow?

Change browsers! Firefox > IE 6-7
The Add-ins make it even better.

I'm not saying it's the answer for everyone.. But it gets me by.

Re: oh god change it back
I didn't think I was crying. I was wondering about those who apparently were crying that they had to scroll too far to see all of the threads before. I would assume that loading separate pages for each of the forum sets and then the forums themselves would use up more bandwith than just scrolling through one list and then clicking on one forum link. Most of my posts have been what I am assuming to be "bugs" that can be set/fixed through tweaking the newly upgraded board. Some have already been taken care of (smiles now work!)

Re: oh god change it back
would it be possible to get two different setups? (I'm doubting it, from extensive experience with phpbb and vbulletin)
I've always thought subforums make for a bigger pain from the user's perspective than anything else. If I click a forum, I want to be thrown right in the thick of the action, instead of going through secret passageways only to find that my treasure is somewhere else I don't want to go.
p.s. offtopic, but i love how you guys thought i was actually referring to wanting to read the vanguard forum!

Maybe it's just small when compared to your giant avatar

Re: oh god change it back
I'm just testing out the new 150x150 avatar size limit!
The side margin with prosilver seems to be wide no matter what so a larger avatar isn't going to stretch anything although it will result in extra scrolling on one liner posts so I don't recommend certain one-liner specialists use them!

Re: oh god change it back
It doesn't cause any scrolling in subsilver2. It just adjusts the margin next to your avatar and leaves everyone else's post alone.
