Post nominations here, one per reply please. I'll try to add the ones from the monolithic thread that I recognize.

Starcraft.
End.
Of.
Discussion.
War is an option whose time has passed. Peace is the only option for the future. At present we occupy a treacherous no-man's-land between peace and war, a time of growing fear that our military might has expanded beyond our capacity to control it and our political differences widened beyond our ability to bridge them. . . .

Short of changing human nature, therefore, the only way to achieve a practical, livable peace in a world of competing nations is to take the profit out of war.
--RICHARD M. NIXON, "REAL PEACE" (1983)

"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, represents, in the final analysis, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children."

All this talk of Starcraft really makes me want to play it again. Will it still run on the machines/os'es (not Vista) of today?

Yeah it runs fine.

The biggest problem with it is the resolution is ridiculously low and can't be adjusted.

I can't recall if it's SC or WC2 that doesn't use IP I think it's WC2.

I was more saying that Warcraft was pretty much a ripoff of Dune 2 (not that I cared).

WC3

I really enjoy this game, but I consider it my favorite because of the customization. A friend and I have made RPGs with cinematics, voice acting and sound editing, and we still play shit like ToB, etc. from time to time.

Rome: Total War.

Finally getting powerful enough to use Spartan Hoplites / Urban Cohorts / Armored War Elephants, or WHATEVER your favorite troop is... is so FUCKING worth the wait that all you people that chose Starcraft can BURN IN ROMAN HELL!!!

But since I think R:TW isn't officially an RTS, I choose:

Starcraft.

Dune 2 started it all for me, BUT the best RTS would be Starcraft.

StarCraft still is playable and that says OMGIAMRETARDEDCAUSEALOTISTWOWORDS! So many diff strategies you could implement with the friends.

A modern day RTS i must also mention is Dawn of War, that revolutionized it for me and breathed new life in the genre.

But the nomination goes to

StarCraft.

Should I include Civ in this category or not? Someone who loves those games let me know. I don't know if I ever really played any of them.

um, I vote "or not" since it's turn-based. RTS is Real Time.

True, I guess the question was more of a "should this category just be Strategy" and include Civ. Is it that much different from your *craft games, other than there being more pauses in action. I'll give it an hour or so, see if I hear any compelling arguments one way or the other.

i consider it a turn-based strategy but civ rocked my face off enough to let that slide.

WC3 would be my vote.

That's kind of the impression I got from the other people who mentioned Civ. It had nearly as many noms in the monolithic thread as any other game for Best Game Ever.

Sorry for the delay on the last few polls, I'll get them up today. And I'll probably just convert RTS to S and include Civ.

If you convert RTS to S, you had better include the hybrid Total War series then.

Or else.

Edit. i see that you added it to the poll. This bodes well......for you.
