Google aquires YouTube

Post by Diae Soulmender »

Soon we will no longer refer to the internet as "the internet". Soon we will just call it "Google".

I always thought Google owned YouTube so I'm already adjusted to the change.

Except for Google will be more apt to give in to the requests of the media giants when they say to remove something, not to mention editing what is on the site. That alone will kill youtube.

Or they'll just buy the media giants and honor their own requests...

I'd say that this was a good investment.

Considering that their stock went up today enough to cover the purchase cost at least 4 times over!

Youtube is already quite active in removing copyright material from their site.

The posting of illegal and/or copyright infringing material is not what drives youtube. So even if google is more active in removing offending material, it won't have a noticeable impact.

Seems to me like that is exactly what runs YouTube. Everytime I have a link sent to me from someone to look at something there its of a movie trailer/interview or something else that probably shouldn't legally be there.

I think YouTube, and Google for that matter, come under the loophole that protects ISPs from being sued because their customers decide to put up a web page with copyright/pedophilic/terrorist content.

We'll see how long that will last now that there's someone who actually has money to be sued on the board.
