No new users!

Post by noel »

Is there perhaps some other way we could allow users onto the site via referrals from registered users or something so that every idiot from Russia and China that wants to sell Viagra or meet a nice American boy to extort money from can't spam the forums with stupid shit?

I realize that the moderators aren't paid, etc. But it seems to be happening more and more frequently. If I'm off base or out of line I apologize.

"noel hot beef mansex" only generates 603 links on Google ( a very low number) but on the top of the list is Veeshan Vault ...

The General Discussion Forum has been pretty slow anyway.

It's kind of funny to watch people have flame wars with autobots. Thgirpo can't take much more of this!

Or you could add that annoying function for setting up an account where you have to re type the letters/numbers you see.

You know, the one that you retype and half the time it doesn't work, and half the time you cant distinguish the fucking letters and numbers typed in it because it's like one of those puzzles you have to stare at cross eyed for the shit to appear.

That would probably do away with a few of these things.

Seriously.. If shit likes this bothers you then you have way too much freetime. You should be out protesting something worthwhile like the price of razorblade replacements.

quite contrary, actually.

I don't have as much time, I certainly don't want to spend any more of it then I have to sifting through spam..

Plus a lot of people put a lot of work into the boards, and a lot of other people put money into it.. I'm sure everyone gets enough of this crap in their email inbox, without worrying about it here.

Sifting through spam? If it takes you more than a millisecond to identify the spam threads that have been posted here, it's time to go back to internet boot camp.

The mods earned their nonpay by fixing the margins for oversized image posts. Anything else is gravy!

Ok sorry guys, I apologize that I am annoyed by the top 5 threads being spam, and it doesn't bother you any.

I don't care how long it takes out of my time, it's annoying and it's only getting worse.

It bothers me too. Sure it was cute when it was 1 thread a decade or whatever, but 5 threads in the course of 24 hours is wasting resources that many of us helped pay for.

Just wait until the fucking idiots start PMing everyone on the board with their bullshit. It's happened before on other message boards and I'm certain it will happen here soon.

Stop picking on Funkmasterr for something reasonable.

BTW Funk, that account creation functionality has already been added.

Agreed.

I use demonoid.com to download a lot of my stuff and they had registration shut off without invites forever.. We should just do the same thing.

I mean, in my opinion anyone who is going to create an account on these forums that cannot get an invite from one of the users isn't going to contribute anything anyhow.. Pretty much everyone that is gonna be registered here already is.

Plus, you could make it so that existing members could create extra accounts for stealth ninja anonymous posting or whatnot.

Just a thought.

Well, we do have the 'are you human check' - however, that's not to say that they:

A) haven't figured out how to automate something like that (I wouldn't be surprised that something with as large of an install base as phpbb has been figured out)

B) aren't actually humans going through and plowing through it by hand to activate accounts.

I can turn on admin only allowing of activating accounts, but as slow as we are with other shit, any new people would take forever! =P

Simple... Give some regular poster moderator access and they can delete spam posts. The Machine isn't exactly a regular these days.

(Oh and make it clear they can only delete spam posts. Problem solved!)
