Waran wrote:So I guess the time I spent in Beta logging in/patching needlessly for hours/trying to figure out missions, and later figuring out that they sucked doesn't = playing to you.

I'm glad I didn't waste any more time playing this piece of shit MMO, like you have.
Ooooh... bugs in beta?
REALLY?????
What the fuck would you expect?

Seeing as you didn't even offer any coherent reason as to why you thought it sucked, I would just assume that you didn't even play it.

Sorry, but I don't usually judge games by what someone who has never played it says about it.

Miir, you're coming off like an elitist snob.

There will never be a piece of software that takes over an hour for me to download that I don't give a fair try to. I downloaded the game, installed it, went through the tutorial, went through two missions, and I was NOT interested after that.

Yes I read other sites to see other people's opinions. There are people on both of the sites you mentioned that are playing that game and have a favorable opinion of it. I form my own opinions though, thank you.

I hope you play MX:O for as long as possible and I hope you enjoy it. When I play an MMOG, I'm looking for fun and interesting content right off the bat. If I don't experience that, I judge that product a failure. I am not paying for a box and a subscription fee to 'uncover TheFun (TM)'. You however seem to really enjoy that.

Edit: The bugs in beta were in the beta less than 1 week from launch. If it was WoW you'd be critical of it.

You said the same shit about those of us who said EQ2 sucks balls. You're just an arrogant prick with a superority complex.

And you're just a little bitch with no opinions of your own.

I never said anything in my last post related to bugs, although I mentioned it earlier in the thread, the bugs didn't deter me from this game, while it may deter others.

Yeah, I never played it miir. Keep believing. I bow to your superior gaming prowess.

/sarcasm off

One, of the many reasons for thinking this game sucks in a nut shell is that first impressions are everything. If you don't grab the attention of your audience in the very first minutes of gameplay (much like the movie did), you're not going to keep them interested in paying for the entertainment or continuing to play.

For example, the entrance storyline with WoW with every character race flyby was something I had never seen in an MMO before and gave me a storyline about my character early on. That laid the groundwork for me to go out and explore and gather more storyline about what happened with my character's race lore and the like. It made me want to play and experience the world more.

M:O had me as a Red Pill being rescued ala Matrix movie style, but not in the way I would have liked to see. It put you in the perspective on the ship seaching for your character and narrowing you down from other people in the Matrix. The update where you saw the ship doors opening up picking you up was an addition that was nice but not enough. I felt very very disconnected from my created character after I entered the Matrix.

What if the beginning gave you a first person perspective of everything that was going on around you. Meeting a Morpheus style character in a normal setting to bring you out of the Matrix. Waking up in the pool of the pink stuff and looking around at the other "battery" tubes surrounding you before a machine grabs you and disconnects you, then you go down the tubes and fall into the pool before the ship saves you. Then add some storyline while you're choosing your skill bases and other things while your "muscles and body are being rebuilt" like Neo had to go through in the movie.

A first person perspective would have made things much more believable to me at the beginning and definately during gameplay. (much in the style of something like Half Life when the lab malfunctions in the beginning), but like I said, this is just one of the factors that leads me to my opinions of M:O.

I was unimpressed with everything the game involved, much after the first moments of gameplay. The quests never seemed to matter to me. I got tired of delivering disks, or talking to this person on the 3rd floor of the building, or kill this guy for the information he has. I understand you have to have a quest system in a game to advance, but it's not something that was very "Matrix" to me.

Like I said before, the most excitement I had was running into a subway station and running into an Agent and being chased until I got bored and let him kill me. The fighting styles were cool, but was not enough to keep me interested. It just seemed repetitive to me, jack in, do a mission, kill a couple guys, get another mission, jack out.

I never said I played for just a few hours, but you assume I did. I played for several days, honestly, but I didn't have a timer on when or for how long I played.

Honestly though, if you find enjoyment playing this game, by all means, play it.

I can see it now....

Tiger Hand beats paper. Like totally beats paper. Always "

Saw a ad for this in the theater when I saw Sin City. The big screen made the graphics look rather boxy. :?

Companies Sign Exclusive Long-Term Agreements Covering DC Comics and The Matrix Online MMO Licensing

SAN DIEGO and BURBANK, Calif., June 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Sony Online Entertainment Inc., and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment today announced exclusive long-term licensing agreements allowing SOE to develop a DC Comics massively multiplayer online game for PC and next generation consoles, as well as the acquisition of The Matrix Online game by SOE.

"By working with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment we will fuse the knowledge SOE has in the online space with some of Warner Bros.' phenomenal properties," said John Smedley, president, Sony Online Entertainment. "SOE will work closely with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Comics to maintain the authenticity consumers demand from the DC Comics franchises. We will also take steps to continue the same high level of service that subscribers have come to expect from The Matrix Online game."

"Our goal is to deliver quality content and consistently advance our key properties within the online games space," said Jason Hall, senior vice president of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. "We've done just that with The Matrix Online. Because of our compelling work in developing and launching that game we can now move it over to the leaders in the MMO space, SOE. We look forward to working with SOE to enhance our overall services to massively multiplayer online gamers for The Matrix Online and a new DC Comics game."

"Expanding our fans' ability to participate in the DC universe through a great online game is a terrific step forward for DC Comics," said Paul Levitz, President & Publisher of DC Comics. "We look forward to working with our colleagues at Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and the talented folks at SOE."

SOE, a worldwide leader in MMO gaming, will work with WBIE, a major creator, developer and licensor of key game properties, to create a next generation online game based on the vast universe of DC Comics. DC Comics is the largest English-language publisher of comics in the world and home to such iconic characters as Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and the Sandman. SOE will be creating a DC Comics game for the PC and next generation gaming platforms, and is currently planning on a fourth quarter release in 2007.

From my understanding, Matrix Online has a pretty small staff, with the majority of it being live event and support staff.

Doesn't make sense that they would get rid of the developers and hire a whole new team. That would not be very prudent, I think.
What the likely will do is axe the live event and support staff as they already have their own infrastructure for those sorts of things.

Matrix Online is a essentially a niche game that requires much less resources to manage than a SWG or EQ/EQ2. With SOEs experience, they can probably do some decent things with the game. I still play it from time to time (mostly for the PvP) so it will be interesting to see what (if any) changes are forthcoming.

I, for one, am glad Sony will be making more MMO's for me to ignore. Somebody's gotta do it.

Miir, I'm having a vision. Yes, I see it now: you are taking a pile of poo, and smearing it on the inside of your computer. Ignoring the smell (or maybe your senses are dulled), you then sit in front of your monitor with a warm smile on your face as you waste your life away.
