Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith -=[ SPOILERS ]=-
Moderators: Abelard, Drolgin Steingrinder
It was just ok in my opinion. As everyone said Portman's acting was non-existant. Basically any scene she was in was ruined for me. I know she can act but judging from the Star Wars movies one would never know it.
And I also wondered about the Death Star construction at the end. After 25 years they still weren't done with it? I think it was a bit lame to add that. It was basically Lucas throwing in everything at the end to 'tie' things together. Totally unnecessary.

They should have just showed blue prints of the Death Star on a display or something.Aslanna wrote:

I'm surprised they didn't show a quick scene of a young Han Solo playing with Lando Calrissian in a playground.

I think the Death Star scene was put into Ep3 to further help those that still thought there was a chance to save Anakin and thought that he and Amadala had a really 'special' romance going.
Anyways, if you ax me a Q. I would say that team $$$ pulled it off pretty well, despite the flaws. Ewan did a great job in transition to old coot.
edit: and I agree with Tyek on the R2 discrepencies...

I just want to know how fast people age on Tattoine. I mean Luke's adopted parents look about 20-22 years old in this one, they look OLD in Episode 4. Also Obi looks like he aged 35 years in the span of 19 years. I am not a Star Wars geek so someone help me with this.
Finally what happened to all those mad skills R2D2 had in this movie? In episode 4 he just rolls around and opens doors.

When I was younger, I used to think that the world was doing it to me and that the world owes me some thing…When you're a teeny bopper, that's what you think. I'm 40 now, I don't think that anymore, because I found out it doesn't f--king work. One has to go through that. For the people who even bother to go through that, most assholes just accept what it is anyway and get on with it." - John Lennon

I didn't. Well, maybe mirth. I chuckled at the fact that these super-empathics who can deflect blaster bolts with lightsabers didn't a) notice the ulterior motives of the troops right next to them and b) didn't even attempt to block the blaster bolts and c) died looking like little prissy school girls.vn_Tanc wrote:who didn't feel somthing when the jedi were being slaughtered?
See, here's the thing. In order for me as a viewer to believe in the Anakin -> Darth Vader switch I need to believe in the reasons for his fall. And what does the movie say is the trigger? His love for Padme and the fear of losing her. Now tell me: Did anyone watching this movie for a second believe that those two liked each other? It wasn't even a sort of reluctant love, it just wasn't there. With absolutely zero chemistry (in fact, negative one gajillion chemistry) between Portman and Christensen, the entire premise of Anakins fall becomes laughable. My suspension of disbelief works fine for light sabres, noisy space battles and Yoda, but not for this.vn_Tanc wrote:I had no problem with the speed of Anakin's fall as I always felt it would be a snap rather than a slide.
Speaking of Yoda:
Am I the only one who saw that fight scene and thought "Ah, interesting. They put in that scene so they could make a cool stage in a console game." ?vn_Tanc wrote:Yoda v Emperor=cool
I know you didn't just say that we should be forced to see the Clone Wars animated series to really appreciate Episode 3...vn_Tanc wrote:It's also well worth seeing BOTH series of the animated clone wars before seeing it. You get more mileage from Grievous for one thing. And you also see more of the pressure on Anakin that nudges him towards snapping.

i thought it was alright.
i felt the same way as drolgin about the fall of the jedi. maybe i was reading into it too much, but it didn't make sense to me that nobody but yoda was sensing something was wrong.
i also didn't like the whole bullshit about padme being perfectly healthy, but "she's lost the will to live."

Midnyte you would have to be seriously retarded to have not noticed how horrible the dialogue was in most of this movie. It's not hard to rip apart a movie when it's so obviously bad that half the theatre laughs.
I really liked the movie too, because the action scenes were great and I still enjoyed the characters, but all to often it was cheesy as hell. I just wish that with Lucas' enormous budget he could have hired some fucking good screenwriters to help out atleast in the dialogue department. Then this movie could have been the best movie EVAR!

Sorry, I just take movies for what they are. I trust in the persons vision who created it. I certainly believe in George Lucas' vision over some fucktard on the board. Why are you putting your expectations into his movie? I just find it all laughable. But, as usually its the same players who feel they know how the world should run. Carry on.

Star Wars was a brilliant idea that was unfortunately directed by an incompetent. The first two movies made it on pure shock and awe on a straight forward story with fiesty, if not great, actors.
You've got to have good acting combined with memorable characters. The actors were there, the script and directing wasn't. Special Effects are only half a movie. We give it the benefit of the doubt because Yoda rocked in the first trilogy and we have fond memories of him. Many thought the best part of episode three was when we finally saw the mask and breath taken by Darth Vader because it finally brought us back to what we really enjoyed about the first three.
How many said they wanted to watch the first three again after seeing this emotionless preview? You bet your ass Lucas was trying to shove as much about episode 4 into the final minutes of 3. That was his only hope of having people leave the movie with a good feeling.
The originals will always be there...well not even that with the Han shoots first debacle...pirated copies of the originals will always be around for our enjoyment.

Anyone who goes to a movie and can't form a founded opinion of it afterward is a fucking idiot.
By the same token, anyone that can't distinguish between good and bad acting/directing is a fucking idiot.
I'll paraphrase Midnyte:
"They served me a shit sandwich. Who am *I* to question the cook. Normally though, I don't like bread."
By the same token, anyone that can't distinguish between good and bad acting/directing is a fucking idiot.

It has nothing to do with the 'truth'. There's no 'truth' to your statements. You're allowed, even welcomed, to express your opinion on movies, dvds or tv shows. Keep your partisan politics bullshit off of this forum though. It's a forum for expressing your views on movies, and your ad hominem crap is a) not constructive, b) not interesting and c) frankly, stupid.Midnyte_Ragebringer wrote:Truth hurts? Hahahaha... NO SEX FOR VORONWE!!!
FYI: I knew all that (omg no sex for me
) but...Lucas in typical lucas fashion has been using the red lightsaber as some kind of gay symbolism. You can even get a toy Anakin lightsaber (no I don't own one) that was red and blue.
I know it was always blue until Vader made his own. Just more remarking that the marketing people at Lucas are non-canon idiots.

I enjoyed ep's I & II. I know theyre far from great films, but I just love how the story lead up into ep. III, especially in regards to palpatine triple-crossing everyone and their mother to gain absolute power. as a third-gen fan, its easier for me to hold them all to the same standards and I honestly find anakin's story more interesting than luke's, while I know eps. 4-6 were clearly better films. ANH had what, 11 AA nominations?

A fun review at http://www.lileks.com/bleats/archive/05 ... 60905.html
I think that there is a certain amount of truth to his observation "Star Wars works best when it’s a silent movie with orchestral accompaniment, and this was one of those moments." That certainly isn't all of the appeal, but I think two of Lucas's strengths are in his imagery and in getting John Williams to do the music for all of them.

Carrie Fisher has some angst when it comes to Lucas.
George Lucas: The Man Who Ruined my Life Fri Jun 10,10:02 AM ET
"Star Wars" creator George Lucas received a top Hollywood honor on Thursday at a dinner where he was embraced by Chewbacca the Wookiee and jokingly denounced by Princess Leia as the man "who ruined my life."
Lucas received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the nonprofit American Film Institute at a black-tie dinner attended by a who's who of Hollywood, including Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher, actors from the original "Star Wars" films. Actors Tom Hanks and Richard Dreyfuss, director Steven Spielberg and the immense fur-covered "Star Wars" warrior Chewbacca the Wookiee were also on hand.
Not all were complimentary, however, as Lucas was subjected to a good deal of good-natured ribbing.
Ford, who played Han Solo in the popular film series, complained he was never Lucas' first choice for the role, saying, "when he was casting I couldn't even get a meeting." He complained that the same thing happened when Lucas was casting for the Indiana Jones role in "Raiders of the Lost Ark."
Fisher, who played Princess Leia, told the audience, "Hi. I am Mrs. Han Solo and I am an alcoholic because George Lucas ruined by life. ... George Lucas is a sadist, but like any other young girl in a metal suit chained to a metal (creature), I keep coming back for more."
She complained that the success of the series provided the stars with a lot of fan mail and "a small merry band of stalkers," and in a reference to Lucas's wizardry in creating lifelike digital characters she said, "I hope I slept with you to get that job, because if not, who the hell was that guy."
In accepting the award, Lucas joked that he started out not being able to write a word, but became "the king of wooden dialogue."

Month and a half later,
Anyone else notice that the use of CGI was so overdone that there wasnt actually a single "clone"trooper outfit actually made? I H8 CGI.
Some movies anoy the hell outta me because it was cheaper to draw a CGI helocoptor than i dunno, rent one for the shot? Some stuff has to be done CGI, demons in LOTR. the best costume in the world wont look that scary. But i can tell CGI from real shots as im sure everyone can. and fuk it cheapens a movie so bad to see something plain beeing made out of CGI-aparis.
