not true.
the information about aluminum tubes that Rice went on national television to describe as being for a uranium centrifuge was from a US intelligence source.
Never mind that Oak Ridge National Labratories (one of if not the leading nuclear technology centers our government opperates) had repeatedly told the adminstration that there was absolutely no way the tubes were for a centrifuge. they were for making small missiles (the kind which Iraq was not prohibited from making).
i'd go on with a refutation but it will serve no purpose. 99.9% of people are entrenched with their position.
the US invaded Iraq because the administration viewed it as an opportunity to proactively change the political landscape in the region. It was a secular government that was not popular with its own people. Iraq has massive oil reserves, so they are strategically important to the US as well. WMDs, Al Qaeda, that was all to get the public on board.
if you are still buying that mess, you are a great example of how effective propaganda can be.
i for one think (as I have thought all along, feel free to check the post history), that it may be tactically the right decision to invade Iraq for the US' long term interests. My problems with the war lay in building support for it by intentionally misleading the taxpayers who funded it and by mismanaging some key aspects of the occupation - which because of administration (Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Cheney and associated staffs) arrogance created an environment that has made it more difficult to successfully implement US goals.
