Just another spam email
I got this in my email last night from a friend. It is pretty interesting and while I don't agree with everything said I do like some of the things. This will surely raise the hackles on a few people here but some I think will applaud it and pray that it comes true. I personally sit in the middle.
==============================
WOULDN'T IT BE GREAT TO TURN ON THE TV AND HEAR OUR PRESIDENT GIVE THE FOLLOWING SPEECH? AND I WOULDN'T CARE WHAT PARTY HE REPRESENTED.
My Fellow Americans:
As you all know, the defeat of Iraq regime has been completed. Since Congress does not want to spend any more money on this war, our mission in Iraq is complete.
This morning I gave the order for a complete removal of all American forces from Iraq. This action will be complete within 30 days. It is now time to begin the reckoning.
Before me, I have two lists. One list contains! the names of countries that have stood by our side during the Iraq conflict. This list is short. The United Kingdom, Spain, Bulgaria, Australia, and Poland are some of the countries listed there.
The other list contains everyone not on the first list. Most of the world's nations are on that list. My press secretary will be distributing copies of both lists later this evening.
Let me start by saying that effective immediately, foreign aid to those nations on List 2 ceases immediately and indefinitely. The money saved during the first year alone will pretty much pay for the costs of the Iraqi war.
The American people are no longer going to pour money into third world Hell-holes and watch those government leaders grow fat on corruption. Need help with a famine? Wrestling with an epidemic? Call France.
In the future, together with Congress, I will work to redirect this money toward solving the vexing social problems we still have at home.
On that note, a word to terrorist organizations. Screw with us and we will hunt you down and eliminate you and all your friends from the face of the earth. Thirsting for a gutsy country to terrorize? Try France, or maybe China.
To Israel and the Palestinian Authority. Yo, boys. Work out a peace deal now. Just note that Camp David is closed. Maybe all of you can go to Russia for negotiations. They have some great palaces there. Big tables, too. By the way Palestinians, we are no longer going to restrain Israel!
I am ordering the immediate severing of diplomatic relations with France, Germany, and Russia Thanks for all your help, comrades.
We are retiring from NATO as well. Bon chance, mes amis.
I have instructed the Mayor of New York City to begin towing the many UN diplomatic vehicles located in Manhattan with more than two unpaid parking tickets to sites where those vehicles will be stripped, shredded and crushed. I don't care about whatever treaty pertains to this. You creeps have tens of thousands of unpaid tickets. Pay those tickets tomorrow or watch your precious Benzes, Beamers, and limos be turned over to some of the finest chop shops in the world. I love New York
A special note to our neighbors. Canada is on List 2. Since we are likely to be seeing a lot more of each other, you folks might want to try not pissing us off for a change. Mexico is also on List 2. President Fox and his entire corrupt government really need an attitude adjustment. I will have a couple of extra tank and infantry divisions sitting around. Guess where I am going to put em? Yep, border security. So start doing something with your oil.
Oh, by the way, the United States is abrogating the NAFTA treaty---starting now. We are sick and tired of the one-way highway.
It is time for America to focus on its own welfare and its own citizens. Some will accuse us of isolationism. I answer them by saying, "darn tootin."
Nearly a century of trying to help folks live a decent life around the world has only earned us the undying enmity of just about everyone on the planet. It is time to eliminate hunger in America. It is time to eliminate homelessness in America. It is time to eliminate World Cup Soccer from America.
To the nations on List 1, a final thought. Thanks guys. We owe you and we won't forget. To the nations on List 2, a final thought. Go to Hell. God Bless America. Thank you and good night.
If you can read this, thank a teacher. If you are reading it in English, thank a soldier!!!!!!!!!

Isolationism would pretty much destroy the US.

China's economy would be far more adept at coping with American isolationism than the American economy. Their current (total) trade deficit is a fraction of America's trade deficit with China.
Cart, stick to commenting on things that you actually have a clue about. Global economics is obviously not one of them.

Sorry Cart, China's economy would rebound from a trade embargo quite quickly, while the rest of the world would respond in kind to the USA and it would be the death knell for your country.Cartalas wrote:I would effect the whole world China's economy would nose dive.Pherr the Dorf wrote:No shit, when you have one of the largest trading deficits in the world, isolationism would be your death, but I did like the gist of it
Imagine for a moment that the countries listed were the only ones importing US goods.
Lets take the car industry for example. The countries listed import a relatively small amount of US made vehicles. The automotive industry is one of the largest in the US. The economic impact of such a policy would be devastating. Also if the author believes these countries stood by the US out of loyalty or devotion he is confused. It was simply to garner US favor.
Canada would be on list 2 and happens to be the largest trading partner the USA has, a mutually beneficial relationship to say the least and one that if damaged would be felt in keenly.
Further to abandon the mess in Iraq now would be a huge blunder.
The author of this I can only assume is a complete idiot.

Ok so your telling me that if a company loses its largest customer base it would not effect them?
Exports to the US are like 1-2% of Chinese GDP.Cartalas wrote:miir wrote:China's economy would be far more adept at coping with American isolationism than the American economy. Their current (total) trade deficit is a fraction of America's trade deficit with China.

I didn't say they would be unaffected, I said that their trade deficit is microscopic compared to the US's trade deficit. This means that the Chinese economy is far less reliant on foreign goods and services than the US.Cartalas wrote:Ok so your telling me that if a company loses its largest customer base it would not effect them?

Cart, while the US is certainly a large purchaser of goods from China you have to remember that many of the products that you and the rest of us purchase would rise astronomically in price if they were produced domestically. It is because of the Global Market that production in China is necessary. Labor costs in the US are way too highCartalas wrote:miir wrote:China's economy would be far more adept at coping with American isolationism than the American economy. I will give you an example. Hammerstalker owns a company in Hong Kong that sources print and other goods and services in China. He recently quoted a print job for me.
Domestic pricing $110,000.00 USD
China pricing including shipping to the US $39,000.00 USD
Something in the neighbourhood of 65% of the worlds manufactured goods are made in China.

Wow, this is possibly the most retarded thing I have ever seen.To Israel and the Palestinian Authority. Yo, boys. Work out a peace deal now. Just note that Camp David is closed. The US has been actively supporting an illegal occupation in Palestine for over 30 years. Like the fucking Palestinians deserve any more shit from your fucking retarded points of view.

Re: Just another spam email
The whole thing is silly, but a couple quick comments.
I wouldn't mind terribly eliminating it from both lists, government to government aid's record of effectiveness is not exactly stellar. However, talk of it paying for the cost of the Iraq war in one year is a sizable exageration. Foreign aid just isn't that big of a portion of the U.S. budget. Projec ted outlays for International Assistance Programs for fiscal year 2005 are 19.3 billion. In 2003, the latest year we have actual (not projected) figures for it was 13.6 billion. Last I heard the cost for Iraq and Afghanistan to date was either 200 or 300 billion.Let me start by saying that effective immediately, foreign aid to those nations on List 2 ceases immediately and indefinitely. The money saved during the first year alone will pretty much pay for the costs of the Iraqi war.
The U.S. benefits as well from NAFTA. Although it isn't free trade as it implies in its name, it is at least freer trade than would probably exist otherwise, therefore a good thing.Oh, by the way, the United States is abrogating the NAFTA treaty---starting now. We are sick and tired of the one-way highway.

Comparing trade deficits won't really tell you very much. The more important figure is the overall amount of trade between the countries and trade deficits/surplues don't really tell you much more than the minimum that number could be.miir wrote:I didn't say they would be unaffected, I said that their trade deficit is microscopic compared to the US's trade deficit. That being said, the U.S. stopping all trade would be hugely damaging to the U.S. and the rest of the world's economies.

While I dont have a problem with people telling me im wrong as Atokal did, I have a problem in which some people have a way of doing it.
While there is some merit into what everyone is saying maybe China wont take a nose dive, I think all of you would have to agree the world economy is effected by the US economy greatly.

Once again, while Cartalas may not have a great understanding of China's economy, I would submit that your grasp of the english language is beneath even that.
