Wave of Cancellations Hit World of Warcraft

Post by Winnow »

I haven't visited this forum in awhile. Good info on this forum!
Wave of Cancellations Hit World of Warcraft

There is no honor in World of Warcraft, or at least that’s what hundreds of users are saying as they bail from the massively multiplayer game. The mini-mass exodus was apparently spurred by the game’s new honor system, which some users apparently abhor. A 35 page thread in the official forums had about 700 posts last I checked. Here’s an example of the ranting going on:

I agree, Battlegrounds should be a good laugh, but I still think the honor system is a steaming pile.

That's the problem with real PvP. Everyone thinks they want it, but really not everyone does. What you're seeing now is really no different from what happened in UO back in the day. Currently in WoW, the Achiever/Killers are destroying all the people who don't really know what PvP means. It's pretty damn funny imho.

Well, I think part of the PvP problem is that people go into the PvP servers thinking that some, if not all, of the fighting will be story driven. Warcraft involved two sides fighting each other for a "reason," but this reason is missing in WoW.

I think the trouble is that a lot of people have grand expectations from the PvP aspect of this game. Wake up...it ain't gonna happen.

The biggest two complaints I have heard are the omg I cant level because I am getting ganked one. Which has been discussed on these forums before so I wont touch that. The other one is the its not fair b/c my PVP rank isnt 14 yet! I somehow managed to pulll off a rank 7 (Blood Guard) and more than likely will be unable to keep this rank up. While there are some things that I think Blizzard should change to make the ranking a bit more even such as dividing it by class, it seems pretty fair so far. While yes the casual players wont hit 14 ever, they still do have a chance to hit officer if they are smart about it. Since pvp points can be "rested" then if they use their time online to do small group pvp since thats where you get the most points instead of attempting to do some high end instance or whatever then they will get more points.

As far as the cancellations go, I'm kinda happy about them, hopefully the ones quitting will be the teenages who are all angsty about not getting points for ganking the level 30s.

I have never cared for PvP and nothing changes now. If I never get a silly rank and some temporary equipment, oh well. I imagine that things are really sucking on the PvP servers with the gank fests going on due to lack of a dishonor system. I suppose this could be a decent thing but they did it horribly wrong and rushed it. I am also happy over the people cancelling, most are the BNet tards and that is a good thing.

Had a few folks quit my PvE oriented guild because they "wanted more PvP." Figured I should at least try it out, went to TM and fought for an hour or so. Don't think I'll be doing that again any time soon... just wasn't very fun for me. 1v1 dueling type stuff I enjoy, but the massive PvP stuff where you are facing off with one guy/couple folks then five more come by and gank you and your bud just isn't very compelling (or vice versa, ganking the other side when outnumbering 'em badly).

Oh well... back to PvE :)

How would you be rank 7 when the ranks were apparently capped at 4 (from the foh board thread) for the first week, hmm?.... An explaination occurs to me. It is not a charitable one...

Eh, I'm an officer, not sure how it happend but I know that there are more on the server who are like this. I am currently ranked 29th. Nothing special consider I put in significant time into this. The biggest problem from this is that the officer "lounge" is not completely finished. I cant access the PVP items yet and most of the NPC dont repsonce to me other than "HI generic text here" response. Tonight I was PVPed by a Knight (rank 7 I think for Alliance) when I was running to BRS to help run some friends through. Not sure why FoH thinks that there is a cap that low. I havent talked to anyone who is a 14 yet so I think there is a soft cap for the commander ranks of it.

something smells like bullshitshit... I ran into the second place overall PVPer on LB Alliance, last night, and they're just a Master Sergeant (rank 4)... can't say I am believing anyone (other than perhaps a Blizzard Employee) would be higher ranked...

Also - I call bullshit on Yaksa's current rank. Show us a screen shot of it and I could find it believable. Just to make note, the screenshot would need to be posted before Monday or whenever it is they do the next round of calculations.

I actually could care less what rank I am. I PvP for a little while and then go about my normal business.

Personally I cant wait for Battlegrounds though I *know* that is going to be an all new cluster fuck to deal with...

Consider what Battlegrounds is... it is a zone where through large scale teamwork you will work your way from one side to the other. Many objectives need to be completed to make this happen. You need to be able to get a large number of people on the same page and listening to orders and making it happen.

Given that you 'queue' up to join a Battleground you dont have a choice on WHO enters the Battelground and who dont. It will be almost impossible to get everyone working together to listening to the General and making shit happen. People are generally too independent/self-serving to actually accomplish diddly or squat thus Battelgrounds will generally be a failure in my opinion.

Not until many months pass will people begin working together in some form 'real teamwork'. Basically you need to weed out the morons who wont listen to the leaders. This will take a loooooooooog time.

Just look at it this way: Go to TM and do some PvP. Do you actually see any form of real team play there? Hardly. Now imagine that on a larger scale with real goals to attain.

Battlegrounds will solve nothing.
