re: Midnyte and Kierkegaard
Mid,
The Kierkegaard quote in your signature is from "Either/Or." Have you read the book or was the quote something which just struck you?
Just so you know, I'm not trying to belittle you in any way. I'm genuinely curious about what you thought of the book.

You do realize that Kierkegaard was an existentialist right? Just like Nietzsche but Religious. If you want to read him I would suggest Concluding Unscientific Postscript as an excellent read. However be warned. While he is very religious in his ideas on Knights of Faith, which I agree very much with him on, he is also... dare I say... pretty libreal in how he interprets the world and how we should draw meaning from it.
I truly find his understanding of Christanity as a model for my own but it's not something you will find in your average Church, it's more what I believe Jesus was trying to get across but hey, he was a liberal too right?
Just giving ya a heads up!

See it's not simple though. Just because he may or may not hold belief very different than mine doesn't mean I cannot appreciate some of the things he has said. Whether or not he may have been a wacked out far left extremist liberal, the quote I have in the sig line, is absolutely beautiful and rings so fucking true.Teenybloke wrote:Someone with your 'beliefs' using a line from Kierkegaard is ironic. Read any of his work and you will see why.
As I said, it is a relatively simple concept.
Just sorta funny
Try not to some people up so quickly. People as is everything else in life is not just one things, they are many things.

Only two lines after he said this (an uneducated viewpoint remember in this particular instance)Try not to some people up so quickly. People as is everything else in life is not just one things, they are many things.
Which he isn't......Whether or not he may have been a wacked out far left extremist liberal

Exactly. I'm sure you could find a quote or two from Hitler (since that seems to be the de facto standard of evil on VV) that taken out of context or without knowing who said them, would be decent quotes.Kelshara wrote:Quoting a person when you don't have the first clue of what the person is about is pretty ridiculous.

Okay. I just read all about him here http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/kierkegaard/ .
Forgive me but I guess I just don't pigeonhole people like you. I don't get your amusement.

You sure did on the Hunter S Thompson thread.Midnyte_Ragebringer wrote:Okay. I just read all about him here http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/kierkegaard/ .

Well Mid sorry but you are one of the worst "pigeonholers" on this board.
If I cared enough I am sure (as the two examples above show) I could find a plethora of instances where you have been both racist and bigoted and small minded and a "pigeonholer".
Now I dig your Tool fanatacism so I try not to be as much of a flaming loon as before with you but you sometimes make it hard.

Wrong. I made an observation. I didn't presume to know everything about this man.Truant wrote:You sure did on the Hunter S Thompson thread.Midnyte_Ragebringer wrote:Okay. I just read all about him here http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/kierkegaard/ .

Dimebag? I said it was shocking it happened to a man named dimebag. Trouble finds people who open themselves up to trouble happening to them by partaking in troublesome events. With an increased frequency your chances of being ain a troublesome situation increase as well.
You want to refute this and call my names and try and pigeonhole me? Go right ahead. I just point out the simple, logical, real, true to life, common sense, reasonable ways I see things. You don't like it cause the truth hurts. And it pisses you off even more when I tell you how right I am and how shallow you are. As DX used to say...."SUCK IT!"

I'd say those are pretty presumptious statements. I bolded your words for easy reading.Midnyte_Ragebringer wrote:Because I don't like him in your eyes means I don't know him? LOLHesten wrote:Hmm, i spot a trend, see the only 2 guys in this thread who dont know who Hunter S. Thompson was![]()

That guy will be missed, thats for sure. True, he was a total nutcase, and usually found high enough to almost go in orbit, but he had style.
Typical of people like you who completely disregard anyone who disagrees with you. Very sad.
I don't take solace in negative, bitter people like HST. Sorry. His negativity and bitterness drove him to end his own life. Getting any of this?
Btw, who is DX and wtf was that?
edit for clarity- hesten's quoted reply has nothing at all to do with anything I'm saying, it just happened to be quoted by you in your reply.

There's your actual quote. It's funny how skewed your view of the world is. You absolutely pigeonhole people and are probably the biggest hypocrite I've ever seen. Please note that you're the one who calls people liberals as if it's an insult, says "Fuck Muslims", and shows no pity nor respect for two dead artists that you admittedly know little about other than to judge them from one or two factoids you heard about them.Midnyte_Ragebringer wrote:Uhh yeah. Sad that someone named "dimebag" is dead. Yeah. Gosh. Feeling awful here. Someone get me some tissues please.
You are the king of the pigeonhole.
That is downright laughable right there. People don't like it because you say something asinine and then stick to how right you are when you're totally fucking wrong or completely contradicting yourself.I just point out the simple, logical, real, true to life, common sense, reasonable ways I see things. It is ironic because someone used a quote from someone that has the opposite general beliefs of the person who quoted it. In some way it makes Midynte a worse person, although I have not been able to figure out exactly how.
In other words, it is someone attacking Midnyte just because they have beliefs opposite of his. You want some irony, then choke to death on it Teeny.

This thread cracks me up!
I think it's great that Mid is going to check out some of his philosophy! It's better to encourage open mindedness than to bash someone because they don't have it... doing that usually results in just the opposite
Not saying I haven't been guilty of doing it, just saying it's usually not the best way to proceed. Hey we are all human right?

Don't change the title. The unmemorable header was why I was going to bump this a few weeks after it dies and see how many people think it's a new thread.
Let's think the unthinkable, let's do the undoable, let's prepare to grapple with the ineffable itself, and see if we may not eff it after all. - Douglas Adams
Ok guys, my mum went into hospital tonight. I reckon she will be ok, but it's made me think as I browse through this endless barrage of hateful ignorance, what is the fucking point of me coming here?
At one point you could rely on Aranuil, or Voronwe, or Laliana, Or Zamtuk, Zealath, or Raistin, or Sartori, or Xou, or Drolgin, or Sueven (even Winnow!
) (much much
to you chaps/chapettes), or any number of intelligent people to post interesting intelligent concepts here, many of which would be built upon and discussed and even while venomous, a semblance of intelligence definately shown through.
That is seemingly dead in this particular forum for the most part (especially in regard to US foreign policy and that age old chestnut - fact).
I said the same in a much less subtle way a while back.
Maybe I have been much too militant in my views with some of you, then again I am not the one using my military to force those views on others, but I don't expect some here will ever understand that oh so subtle little issue.
You certainly haven't so far.
Your idealism is wrong because it excludes the majority of the species in which you are nothing more than supporting bit part players, in the reality of things.
Anyway, the following no doubt will be met with both apathy and ecstasy from various board members, no doubt the Carts, the Kilmolls, the Arumans etc (oddly enough I easily hold Mid above these reprobates, hmm) will be ejaculating all over their children (poor kids) at the thought of me not posting on the CE forum anymore, but that's what I am essentially saying.
It's not defeatism, I just simply don't have the time or effort now to keep calling people out on the stupidity that many members of this community see.
Balls to this, you are wasting your own time and other peoples if you cannot take part in even vaguely open intellectual discussion.
You are fully aware of who you are and until you sort that out (if ever?), good luck, but I'm out.
Get your digs in now lads, because it's the last chance you'll be getting for the forseeable future.
I'll see you on the other forums.
