I'd be surprised if he was able to live out the year. The question is though, will he step down or stay in position till he passes away.
Quite sad.

Talking about these?Akaran_D wrote:/not going to comment about some earlier popes, however.
Antipope
A false claimant of the Holy See in opposition to a pontiff canonically elected. At various times in the history of the Church illegal pretenders to the Papal Chair have arisen, and frequently exercised pontifical functions in defiance of the true occupant. Hippolytus (?), III century
Novatian, 251
Felix II, 355-365
Ursicinus, 366-367
Eulalius, 418-419
Laurentius, 498-501
Constantine II, 767
Philip, VIII century
Anastasius, 855
Leo VIII, 956-963
Boniface VII, 974
John XVI, X century
Gregory, 1012
Sylvester III, 1044
Benedict X, 1058
Honorius II, 1061-72
Guibert or Clement III, 1080-1100
Theodoric, 1100
Aleric, 1102
Maginulf, 1105
Burdin (Gregory VIII), 1118
Anacletus II, 1130-38
Victor IV, 1159-64
Pascal III, 1164-68
Calixtus III, 1168-77
Innocent III, 1178-80
Nicholas V, 1328-30
Robert of Geneva (Clement VII), 20 September, 1378 to 16 September, 1394

I'm not a very religous person, but grew up a Catholic and familiar with the stories.Voronwë wrote:he isnt going to step down.
if he "steps down", rest assured it is a coup.
He personally believes and has stated publically, that the Holy Mother - a major deity to Catholics (even though they say she's not a deity, she has all the powers of one - if you are to believe them -, they just pretend she isnt one because it is inconsistent with the Scriptures)- anyway he has said publically that in 1980 she physically altered the path of the bullet that was fired at him in the assassination attempt.
Days ago he said that the Virgin Mary interceeded on his behalf to again save his life.
Mary is a central figure to Catholics, and for the Pope - God's conduit to humanity - to say that the Holy Mother has kept him alive, not once, but twice tells you that this man is not going to step down.
She didnt keep him alive to be the first Pope to EVER "retire".
At any rate, back here on planet earth most people don't get "elective tracheotomy's" for "the flu" so, i wouldn't really believe the "official" messages until he is actually dead. Which will probably be soon, let's be honest.
