interesting eq sound sorta cheat thingy
Just noticed. You can acess the mp3 files for the PoP music (check out time, exp) using yer default MP3 player. This leads me to question if it would be, at all possible, to take a non eq mp3 (for instance, Kravits doing American Woman) to say.. potranqulity.mp3 and place it in the eq folder. Or Paint it Black for the Plane of Disease.
Anyone know if this would work? Going to give it a try in a few, methinks.

well if you do EQW or 2 box you can modify it after the patch. just make your c:\program files\everquest folder shared if you 2 box, and navigate in, paste in your new MP3 and you are set (after the file scan is complete).
but i dont remember the programs name, but there has been a program that lets you run winamp from within EQ since around the time kunark went live.

There used to be a program that you could use to let WinAmp tracks play during an EQ session (this was before EQW came out). It's long since been rendered useless by Verant's tinkering, though.
And now I hear that Sony has taken steps against EQW in its latest EQ code? Heh. If true, I'm not surprised. EQW never did anything but make people's lives easier -- but SoE's eternal fear of third-party software will always trump concerns of convenience, I guess.

maybe they should work on some encryption then =)Millie wrote:but SoE's eternal fear of third-party software will always trump concerns of convenience, I guess.
cause when the next generation of their games come out, we'll be able to probably sniff the packets on our cellphones which are running linux

Millie,
Unless I missed soemthing, Sony took action against SEQ by making the client transmit license information in an encrypted packet. You can no longer sniff packets from a seperate machine, you have to run the sniffer on the same machine as EQ and dig the information out of memory before it is encrypted.
Don't know of anything that was done against EQW.

Sony has always encrypted its packets; however, it recently changed the encryption to a 64-bit code (or so the computer-saavy people I've talked to explain things). This wasn't an action specifically against EQW or SEQ -- it was taken against third-party software in general (a category which includes both afforementioned programs). This is why many people are having a hard time running SEQ and EQW these days.Fallanthas wrote:Millie,

Encryption can always be beaten, as far as I know. So it's only a matter of time before someone figures out how to get around the new coding.

actually 64bit encryption has already been beaten
but yeah, it isnt easy to crack, so i dont think even if every EQ client was simultaneously trying to decrypt whatever algorithm they use, we would be in any danger of getting it anytime soon.

the eq data streeam hasnt always been encrypted. it once upon a great time ago was plaintext. Which gave a huge advantage to breaking the code when the encryption was introduced since you already knew what the data stream looked like before hand. Which gave the Man in the Middle attack preference in breaking the code.
If you have any old showeq.tar(s) from when the program was first released you can see in the code where there was no decryption done. but thats my 2 coppers.
