Funny, I don't seem to remember the mandate that everyone get IQ testing. Where are they getting their samples from?

I saw that, but I've also remember seeing a link that claimed to debunk it. I think it's wrong. 113 is really high for an average in a state.

Cute, but not accurate, nor logical.

And dammit Cracc, Oregon is not Canada! I will concede WA to Canada however. :D And don't let any Oregon natives see that CA is a bordering state--far as the folks up here, CA may as well be in France!

That looks like the same list of states and IQs that was bandied about the blogoverse a few months ago talking about how states broke between Gore and Bush. It is probably a hoax.

Steve Sailer had probably the most extensive writeup about it (I don't read his stuff normally, was linked to it from elsewhere so I can't comment on his general reliability, but his arguments and supporting information seem pretty good).

http://www.isteve.com/Web_Exclusives_Ar ... 6465670139

Actually, just followed one of those links and it goes off to the site that originally posted the chart back then and it has the following ...

http://americanassembler.com/features/i ... erages.htm
I'm the one who posted the IQ chart correlating IQ and votes in the 2000 election. As the "humor" contributor, I am the one that tracks down amusing stories or cartoons to post here at the American Assembler.

When I posted this chart I had no idea the ruckus it would cause from both the left, who opposed conjuring up the whole IQ business, and the right, who opposed the supposed stats.

As this has gotten a bit out of hand, I feel, and the editors feel, that I should take responsibility for posting this thing and clarify my reasons and intents about using what is clearly suspect data in the first place.

It was irresponsible of me to post this chart in this format and I apologize to the American Assembler and it's readers for having done so. It was never my intent for anyone to take this seriously and I erred in judgment in not realizing that people would. Even if this chart is not a hoax, as it most probably is, it was inappropriate to post it for it is simply offensive.

I have to say that I did not invent this chart. It's been floating around for years. All I did was dress it up a bit. But I regret posting it and I regret the fallacious distraction it's caused from the real issues presented on this site. And yes, I even apologize to Republicans for implying they are stupid. Some people around here still think there's hope for you all.

I now agree with some readers, and my editors, that, while I thought this would be a bit of amusing banter, it is damaging to the credibility of the Assembler and distracting from the real issues facing our country. My attempt to mock Republicans for voting for George Bush by posting suspect IQ data was not funny or constructive.

It is not the position of the American Assembler that there is any relevance whatsoever to any attempt to correlate intelligence or academic achievement with political leanings.

Once again, please accept my apologies for bad judgment and bad taste.
So, pretty sure they are bogus numbers (as seemed fairly likely even at a glance, the spread in average iq between states looks a fair amount too high).
No nation was ever ruined by trade.

Also, if you scroll down a ways on the Steve Sailer link I posted above he has some data on 8th grade reading and math scores broken down by state among some other things, kind of interesting.

I think that number is 60. Are IQ tests still given to children? I would have thought that much more meaningful tests would be around--or the "political correctness" factor would have kicked in some time in the mid 90's and ushered the tests out.

May have already been clarified, but anything 70 and below can be considered "Mentally Retarded" by the DSM IV. South of 70 and your gonna have problems.

And I'm sure that picture was created to make the Dems feel better about the election... Suppose they do need something right? (Besides, of course, Weed.)

And then there were...

That map just shows how spread out people are, its still doesn't change the fact that only 51% voted Bush.

What I see from that map, is all the dumb hicks living in the country voting Bush, and the intelligent Cityfolk living in the dense populated major cities voting Kerry.

You can't dump nuclear waste in the middle of a major city! You dump it in the country where the dumb hicks live.. hrmm maybe that's why they're so stupid. and why they voted Bush..

P.S. Damn you Cracc! You stole that image from me! (not that I didn't steal it from somewhere else..)

Actually the blue speck in the middle is Travis County and the reason it's blue is Austin. Houston is in Harris County which went for Bush.

Austin is the bastion of liberalism in the state. Houston with its plethora of "security moms" driving tanks (err SUVs) wouldn't vote any way except the way their God tells them to!

Thx for telling me how my City went dude, again you just assume something and post something false! Houston went for Bush Same with Dallas Same with San Antonio..all in the top 10 cities in the US.

Harris(Houston):
Bush- 580,553 55%
Kerry- 472,320 45%

Dallas:
Bush 345,482 50%
Kerry 335,871 49%

Bexar(San Antonio):
Bush: 259,762 55%
Kerry: 210,354 44%

Some other major Cities that went for Bush:
San diego, Tampa, Jacksonville, Cincinnati, Phoenix, Fort Worth, Oklahoma city, Tulsa....

Other Cities that were very close:
Indianapolis, Miami, Baltimore,Charlotte, El Paso, Las Vegas, Sacramento.

Cities in the top 10 in the US that went for Bush:
Houston #4, Phoeinix #6, San Diego #7, San Antonio #8, Dallas #9...5 cities in the top 10.

Are you trying to make some sort of point with that statement? Xzion was making a generalizing statement along the lines of "Intelligent city residents vote for Kerry and ignorant country folk vote for Bush because God says so." By saying 5 out of the 10 top cities in America voted for Bush, Sirton's refuting that claim. No shit the other 5 went to Kerry. Who else would they go to? Nader?

Sirton narrows the list to top 10 cities just to support his case, in this case claiming 50\50 in metro areas (i.e. 5\10 sounds better than 1\5 top5), and coincedently the top 10 contains a decent number of texans.

Kerry did much better in metro areas in general than Bush. Even in deep red states Kerry did well in the metro areas where as Bush controls the rural areas.

Houston is great to live in. Economy is almost always doing good. The night life the past 3-4 years has gotten great. The food is excellent. Great skyline. The people are extremely nice aswell. Sporting teams and avenues are the top of there industries. Not the best, but OMGIAMRETARDEDCAUSEALOTISTWOWORDS of OMGIAMRETARDEDCAUSEALOTISTWOWORDS of water sports to do in the area. The Bad air is mainly in the Pasadena area heh. And any city with a ton of trees or green has high ozone levels. Its not New York, San Fransico, Boston or Chicago for certain different things. But its my home, and deff. not a shithole like someones mouth. There only reason for calling it that is the city is in Texas and they hate Bush.

Forthe yea its common sense most people in the cities vote for Kerry, but Xzion was acting like everyone in the city votes Kerry and acted like Houston did. I just pointed out 5 of the top 10 didn't and about 20 of the top 50 didn't.
