This game pulled a Max Payne 2. Graphics look MUCH better then the first one. Models look a lot more diverse now with more body to them too. Animations look smooth as hell too. I ws tired of seeing flurry being the coolest looking melee attack. lets hope they leave some bug in it, having 1200 skill points at level3 is fun.

I know I'm good at what I do, but I know I'm not the best.
But I guess that on the other hand, I could be like the rest.

if you goto the http://www.swkotor.com website and click on kotor II, there is a video with narration that shows gameplay and characters. Very cool looking.
I guess I'm jaded after seeing skillfully cut edits w/ snazzy soundtracks turn into shit games. While the license is nearly failsafe and my concern unwarranted, there were reports from various sources that showned concern about the mechanics. I'll be excited when it's proven that it's good. So far, short of a fancy license, JE seems a lot more interesting.

Atari pulled the game from Bioware in part of a major snit over liscencing issues surrounding the D&D liscence. Basically, Bioware made them assloads with NWN but chaffed at a lot of Atari's distrobution descisions, like secure ROM and such. Atari turned around and tried to ass pump them by liscencing another development house to do TOEE, but that flopped. Bioware then made them assloads making KOTR, and meanwhile Atari's other development houses can't ake a successful game to save their asses (see the Transformers game for an example) so Atari basically pulled the plug on Bioware having the D&D franchise after the second NWN expansion came out and put this brand new studio in charge of KOTR2. Bioware is currently working on an all new RPG, Jade Empire.
The new development team is made of several old Black Isle people, so the potential is there for a good game. Unfortunately, it is a new team and likely to be completely different. I really enjoyed the story from the first one and the capacity to be evil, good, or something in between. I have to wonder if this new team is going to capture that same feeling or if they are using their snazzy new graphics engine to toss a coat of polish over a pile of shit.

War is an option whose time has passed. Peace is the only option for the future. At present we occupy a treacherous no-man's-land between peace and war, a time of growing fear that our military might has expanded beyond our capacity to control it and our political differences widened beyond our ability to bridge them. . . .
Short of changing human nature, therefore, the only way to achieve a practical, livable peace in a world of competing nations is to take the profit out of war.
--RICHARD M. NIXON, "REAL PEACE" (1983)
"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, represents, in the final analysis, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children."
Dwight Eisenhower

Doesn't make any business sense to rip their contract up with their most successful developers, who garnered them the most revenue.
There's probably a lot more that happened behind the scenes that you are not aware of...I don't see a large corporate entity like Atari making a stupid business decision like that. More probably, Bioware wanted to be indepedant, seeing how successful their games are. Just a guess...
That's like saying, Joe Schmoe made your company 10 billion dollars in profit last year while handling your most lucrative account, so you fired him and hired some unproven person to take his place. WTF?Bioware then made them assloads making KOTR, and meanwhile Atari's other development houses can't ake a successful game to save their asses (see the Transformers game for an example) so Atari basically pulled the plug on Bioware having the D&D franchise after the second NWN expansion came out and put this brand new studio in charge of KOTR2.

I still remember seeing Interplay publish Baldur's Gate from Bioware then use the engine internally in their Black Isle studio to make the Icewind Dale series. It looks like the same thing is happening with KotOR. It could just be that Bioware passed in order to work on their own license. There is a lot more money in being able to have the license for a franchise.
I don't really expect a whole lot of innovation from KotOR II, if they give me more of the same I'll be happy.
Oh on another note, why is it that the voices in game/gaming trailers really suck? Every time I go to the movies I have to hear the crappy voice work for the N-Gage commercial.

BTW, Atari is really just a branch of Infogrames. It's basically just a marketing label now.
At least that's how it started. Then Infogrames changed their name to Atari. So... I don't know if all that's relevant or not but there you go!
Anyway...
It sounds like Bioware is still involved... But that may be just a political spin!

The biggest surprise in today's announcement comes not from the announcement itself, but rather who has been named as the game's developer. Rather than create it themselves, BioWare and Atari have once again farmed out development chores to Obsidian Entertainment. Obsidian is a development house founded by Feargus Urquhart and several other refugees from Interplay, where they made up the bulk of the famed Black Isle Studios and were responsible for such classic RPGs as Fallout 2, the Icewind Dale series, and Planescape: Torment. This is the second such coup for the new studio. Recently, the company revealed that its also developing the sequel to Knights of the Old Republic.
For its part, BioWare expressed great confidence in the abilities of Obsidian Entertainment to deliver a quality product. The release quoted Dr. Greg Zeschuk, BioWare's Joint CEO: "From our development of Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights, to our engine licensure on Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2, we've been working collaboratively with Feargus and other members of the Obsidian Entertainment team for years. Neverwinter Nights remains one of the most important titles BioWare has ever created. We certainly plan to remain involved in the production and development of Neverwinter Nights 2 and we're delighted to initiate another partnership with Obsidian Entertainment and Atari."
It sounds like Bioware is still involved... But that may be just a political spin!

I never realy got most of the bugs Ive seen to work. I could of leveled my dude to 40 if I wanted to, but the level would never stick.
For the skill points, make a soldier. Once you get to the first level up, fake level it. To do that, goto the stats screen (where you chose to level up or auto level) right before you hit A, hit the black button to switch character, on the level up screen, you should see a portrait, but a different model in the window. Auto select everything. Once done, your main dude should still be able to level up. Do it again untill level 4. At level 4, level up normally, auto select everything. You should go back to level 2. Next time you level up, you will have an insane amount of skill points.

You are talking about the Atari that OWNED the home console market until they GAVE it away trhough incompetence right?Menelaos wrote:There's probably a lot more that happened behind the scenes that you are not aware of...I don't see a large corporate entity like Atari making a stupid business decision like that.

No, not really. See above. That Atari ceased to be a long time ago.Kylere wrote:You are talking about the Atari that OWNED the home console market until they GAVE it away trhough incompetence right?Menelaos wrote:There's probably a lot more that happened behind the scenes that you are not aware of...I don't see a large corporate entity like Atari making a stupid business decision like that.
