One thing that kinda confuses me: both sides seem to point the finger at the other for 9/11, but in reality what did other side do to prevent it?
Midnyte and his crew love to say "it happened because Clinton was lax" but what the fuck did Bush do in his time in office about it, before it happened? Didn't see the Dept of Homeland Security until after the planes crashed.
The Anti-Bush posse love to say its all Bush's fault but again, do you really believe this could have been completely staged from plan to execution solely in the time from when Bush was sworn in until 9/11?
I think both sides have to admit some culpability.
And back to the real subject, I have to say I find it hard to swallow that the largest democracy in the world could consider postponing a national election: does anyone really believe Al Qaida has the resources to pull off something as stunning as the WTC attacks again? If the Bush admin does, maybe they should have chased these resources down before invading Iraq...

Those were done during Clintons term. But maybe becuase there skin is brown you dont care?
I'm jumping in here to shoot down Cartalas because I know Kyoukan has him on ignore and he's just blatantly factually incorrect here.Kyou wrote:Al Queda terrorist attacks under Clinton/Gore:
Cart, if you will scroll up to the words I bolded, you will notice that Kyou specified terrorist attacks performed by Al Qaeda. As you may or may not be aware, neither Saddam Hussein nor the Taliban are Al Qaeda. I think it's kind of funny that, in the same post that you bash someone else for not caring about brown people, you manage to display complete and total ignorance of such a basic fact about brown people. I suppose I shouldn't be too surprised.
Oh, by the way, I think that there are some people out there who would claim that executions (even those performed in a manner that we find barbaric) are not "terrorist attacks." Hell, I think our fucking president would make that argument.
And just to keep it going a little more: Saddam gassed the Kurds in 1988. Guess who was president then?
If you plan to continue attempting to argue with facts, I would recommend that you check out something like this:

Did I say anything about the gassing of the Kurds? Do you thing Sadaam stopped there? No Saddam continued throughout Clintons 8 yrs, Oh and by the way look up way up I said Afghan, too didnt I. Or are you going to try to say that Al Queda had nothing to do with Afghanastan?Sueven wrote:Cartalas wrote:Oh you mean the Afghan civilians that were killed in the soccer stadium does not count or the 100's of thousands civilians killed by Sadaam?

As usual, the truth falls somewhere in-between. That's really the only bothersome thing I've seen come out of all this. Watching the neocons and the libs trade double-standards with each other 24/7 is almost enough to make me stop pounding F5 like an obsessive compulsive chimp.masteen wrote:As usual, the truth falls somewhere in-between. Almost.

Actually, while it is easy to look back and question the past actions of people, I do not blame Clinton for 9/11. I only blame the terrorists and the evil mindset that thought up and perpetrated this disgusting act. I only seek an attempt to prevent further 9/11's.Wulfran wrote:

What is al-Qaeda?
Al-Qaeda is an international terrorist network led by Osama bin Laden. It seeks to rid Muslim countries of what it sees as the profane influence of the West and replace their governments with fundamentalist Islamic regimes. After al-Qaeda’s September 11, 2001, attacks on America, the United States launched a war in Afghanistan to destroy al-Qaeda’s bases there and overthrow the Taliban, the country’s Muslim fundamentalist rulers who harbored bin Laden and his followers. “Al-Qaeda” is Arabic for “the base.”

I don't mean to derailing this mudsling, but I thought one or two of you might be interested in this:
Taken together, I don't see how it can be Constitutionally legal to allow any agency to postpone the National Election. The Supreme Court should shoot down any such law immediately unless both houses of Congress can rally 2/3 majorities and alter 2 articles of the Constitution.
If this were to happen and the election were delayed substantially, I would probably leave for the UK almost immediately. And I would spend the rest of my life counting my blessings for marrying a British citizen.
This clearly limits the term of a President to four years (no exceptions). The US Constitution wrote:Article [II.]
Section. 1.
Clause 1: The executive Power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America. He shall hold his Office during the Term of four Year...
This clearly defines the date on which the term of office ends. The US Constitution wrote:Article [XX.]
Section 1.
The terms of the President and Vice President shall end at noon on the 20th day of January, and the terms of Senators and Representatives at noon on the 3d day of January, of the years in which such terms would have ended if this article had not been ratified; and the terms of their successors shall then begin.

HAHA! you got that from Farenheit 911!! Lemming!!!
“News coverage has pointedly stressed that W.'s month-long stay at his ranch in Crawford is the longest presidential vacation in 32 years. Washington Post supercomputers calculated that if you add up all his weekends at Camp David, layovers at Kennebunkport and assorted to-ing and fro-ing, W. will have spent 42 percent of his presidency ‘at vacation spots or en route.’” Charles Krauthammer, “A Vacation Bush Deserves,” The Washington Post, August 10, 2001.
As of April 2004, President Bush had made 33 trips to Crawford during his presidency, bringing his total to more than 230 days at the ranch in just over three years. “Add his 78 trips to Camp David and five to his family’s compound at Kennebunkport, Maine, and Bush has spent all or part of 500 days – or about 40 percent of his presidency – at one of these his three retreats.” “Bush Retreats to a Favorite Getaway: Crawford ranch,” Houston Chronicle, April 11, 2004.

Please don't be so naive as to believe he is sitting by the pool reading when he goes to Crawford. Those numbers also included weekends in Camp David and many instances where he was actually meeting with foreign diplomats and leaders. Quoting Farenheit 9/11 or like sources are exactly like quoting right wing ultra conservative sites on the other end. Just spare all of us. Please.
You know, I read this thread and had a quick off the wall concept.
Assume the "government" announces that going to vote could kill you because of various specified or unspecified threats, and we are forced to improve the dinosaur-like system we currently use with one that has less than the 10% error margin the current one possesses.
Or maybe all the truly fanatic far right and lefties will insist on going to vote, and will die by the hundreds of thousands, leaving a more balanced centrist society.
Yeah I am just dreaming. But some days I agree with Kyoukan and it scares the fuck out of me, because I have no doubt she is a inbred racist ignorant little piece of trailor trash, but she occasionally has a point.

Its actually from a Washington Post article. That was the source the movie used. i assume you are also being somewhat goofy, but since many are fairly literal minded i thought i'd clarify =)Aslanna wrote:HAHA! you got that from Farenheit 911!! anyway, Condi Rice today was interviewed by Wolf Blitzer and categorically denied there was any contingency planning to postpone the voting (ie spin control).
At any rate she made a good point, we managed to have elections during the Civil War, we should be able to handle AQ's best shot and still get it straight

Goofy? Never! I was impersonating Midnyte.Voronwë wrote:Its actually from a Washington Post article.
