Terrorists?

Theft of Texas Fuel Trucks Raise Fears

Wednesday, June 02, 2004

SAN ANTONIO — Two propane-delivery trucks were stolen from a gas company over the holiday weekend, raising fears of what could happen if terrorists got hold of the explosive fuel.

Police Chief Albert Ortiz said Tuesday that his department does not suspect that terrorism was behind the thefts. But officials said that since Sept. 11, such a possibility cannot be ignored.

"Four years ago, we probably would not be too concerned about this, San Antonio FBI (search) agent Patrick Patterson said Wednesday in a television interview. "It would be a major theft and handled like any other criminal investigation. Because of the nature of the day, we are very, very concerned about the whereabouts of these two trucks."

One of the tankers carried about 3,000 gallons of propane (search), while the other held 2,600 gallons, police said. The trucks were taken from a parking lot owned by Ferrellgas and have the company logo on them.

Another FBI spokesman, Rene Salinas, said the market for propane in Mexico is strong and that the thieves could have been filling an order, mirroring a similar theft about nine months ago. A nationwide alert has been posted and law enforcement officials in Mexico also have been contacted, he said.

"We don't want to alarm anyone," Salinas said. "But we do want people to be on the lookout."

Also under investigation is the weekend theft of 15 gas canisters from an ambulance supply company.

"We think it is just a coincidence at this point," said Ortiz, who appeared at a Tuesday news conference.

He said five of the stolen canisters were empty, but others contained nitrous oxide, carbon dioxide and oxygen.

Patterson said the theft of the canisters was unusual and they could be used for improvised explosive devices.
Prolly just Mexican re-sellers as suggested in the article, but what a different world we live in now after 9/11. Always being on edge about this shit sure is different than before 9/11. Unreal.

Yeah 911 did not really shock me to be honest, I expected something, not that effective of an attack, but I knew it was going to happen eventually.

I feel the same level of concern I felt prior to 911, it is a big bad world, and no amount of hiding under the blankets is going to fix that.

I don't see why refusing to live fear-free is ignorant. There is no disputing that 9/11 was a horrific tragedy, but to live in constant fear that terrorists might attack at any moment is not the way I want to live.

Of course I don't want to die, most people don't want to die, but live your life today in a way that you won't be ashamed of tomorrow and if it's your time to go, whether from a steel beam from a construction site or a terrorist with a stolen propane truck, your ghost won't haunt little boys with unfinished business.

I have slightly become worried after 9/11 only because I live between the major Orlando theme parks and one of the biggest universities in central florida. However since I live 45 minutes from the parks, I dont let it wreak havoc on my life.

I totally agree. I don't live in constant fear either. But, to walk around and pretend 9/11 didn't happen and to not be more aware of your suuroundings is just foolish in my opinion. Maybe it's just that some people don't fully appreciate what a terrorist attack on our homefront meant/means. Sure, a fuckton of people probably thought it could possibly maybe might happen, but to actually have had it happen and in such grand fashion taking so many lives, was just eye opening.

I just keep waiting for that lovely morning where I wake up to nukes falling across the globe, so I can ever so calmly, walk up to Foodland, buy a package of Camels and a package of doghnuts, and watch life fade away under the glowing skies.

If the human race makes it through the next hundred years, I'll be impressed.

Remember: This is Midnyte we are talking about. The radical who cowers in his small town and refuses to go anywhere near where an attack might happen!

Me living in ignorance? I think not. However, I fly just as much as I used to. I visit the same places as I used to. I do the same things as I used to. 9/11 changed nothing for me, I went to Spain several times even though they had terrorist attacks happening. I went to England and Ireland and ignore IRA. I went to Greece during their tense period with Cyprus (was quite interesting to walk in between machine gun nests complete with sandbags and everything inside the airport terminal). You see, some of us were not ignorant enough about the world to believe it would never happen near us. We just choose to live life and not give the terrorists the satisfaction of changing how we live it. Because the second you do, they have won.

So grats Midnyte on awarding terrorists with their victory. I am sure your buddy Dubya is proud! Oh wait, he helped..

I am flying on the 4th of july, one of the prime targets, I gave no second thought to flying that day, but it has since been mentioned to me that I am crazy (hey it was a cheaper fare dammit!), I would never ever change my life out of fear, if I do, they are winning, if I live my life the way I have always lived my life, then I dare say it's in the hands of a higher power then UBL or George Bush

Very, very true, i never think twice of flying someplace regardless of the day, time, or place.
The second we chance our lives in the name of fear, the terrorist have won. The second our government takes away our freedoms via patriot act in the name of a highened level of national security, the terrorist have one, fuck, THE TERRORIST are winning, becouse of the people running this country and those living in fear, cowering to those in power.

I had a chuckle at Ashcroft pressing the panic button a few days ago. The :vv_WTF: response from the Department of Homeland Security was funny. Good old John doing his part to keep the population scared.

The most troubling thing for me is another terrorist attack on the US would pretty much guarantee a Bush win. Conspiracy theory stuff indeed but having the motivation exist at all is scary.

Something will happen before election time. If not, Bush will lose. His administration knows this. Something will happen. And I'll not be the least bit surprised if it's full of more lies and deceipt.. that will of course not be known or cleared up until after the election is over.

The most surprising thing to me is that nobody has tried to assassinate the idiot yet. There wouldn't be much sleep lost over the incident.

I've mentioned this a few times over the past 3 or 4 months. If it happens, I certainly hope it's terrorists trying to upset the election process as opposed to our own people trying to influence the elections.

It's a conspiracy theory for sure but I don't take anything for face value these days.

My psychic vibes give me the feeling Las Vegas will be hit this time...lots of people, big vacation spot...great for terrorizing the country.

I lived in the real world Pre 9/11 and still do so post. 5 children from the grammar school my children went to lost thier parents, all of them happened to have been with me in the aftschool program I run. This was 5 children from 3 families from a small school of 250 students. One set of girls had an aunt move from India to care for them right after. Another boy stayed with us for a year until his mother moved, his father had been a fire fighter. We still have 2 girls with us who lost thier mother and help them deal with thier pain daily.

Well, I can tell you it has changed my life and those of many people I know here in NYC. Should I go downtown with my children? I know this runs through the minds of many parents I know. Am I afraid, yes. I am glad you aren't, but try living here, then talk about changing your life.

Better watch out what you say Siji! Talking about assassinate and the president might end up getting you a knock on your door soon. Seriously though, it would be REALLY hard to assassinate Bush I think. Wherever he goes he is constantly surrounded by people ready to take a bullet for him, plus they are constantly searching everywhere miles around him, and any time he makes any sort of speech or is in any place that might put anyone in a position to try it, there are sharpshooters watching every angle ready to fire at a moments notice.

Of course, if somehow one of those same sharpshooters snapped or someone close to him goes nuts, it could happen.

I spend significant amounts of time in New York and it never crosses my mind to worry about it. 2 good friends of mine live there, both of them should have been in WTC at the time of the hit but neither were (one overslept, one had a bad feeling and skipped the early morning meeting). I am no more worried about living in NYC than I would be about going to Athens this summer.
This is why you are pathetic. The way you put words into peoples mouths. I never said I cower in fear. I said I am more alert and aware now. It's an intelligent response.

Great advice too bad you are unable to follow it.

Cheers your friend Toker
Wow, someone actually flamed Kindolina? That's like kicking a kitten. I suppose you're sore because she wasn't impressed with your behaviour and let you know it.

Enlighten me then. I clearly said I supposed it, so what was wrong with my statement. It's not like I said it was a fact.

It's not like anyone would take an insult from the likes of Atokal, Cartalas or Midnyte to heart anyway.

Cart,

Kel went to the Kyocunt school of messgae board discussions. It's the same old stuff.....put you down, try and make you look bad, put words in your mouth.......it's easier than actually trying to think and discuss like an adult I suppose. /shrug

You wouldn't know the first thing about discussing like an adult. Let's take a look at this thread alone:
LOL. I pity you're ignorance.
You guys are pathetic.
As long as we have enough intelligent, thoughtful, caring people to win on Novomber 3rd, who gives a fuck how many ignorant, disrespectful, unappreciative, unpatriotic assholes there are.
You're right, if that is debating like an adult I wouldn't want to know anything about it. And btw, you can't deny the fact that you talked about how you were so glad you lived in a small place and would not go to big cities, because I remember laughing my ass off at you.

And what is wrong with living in a small town? Some people dont like large cities, I for one have lived in a lot of large cities and prefer the small town life. Of course you wouldnt pricks like you stick out like a sore thumb so city life fits you well, you can blend in that way.

rofl I have lived in small towns for half of my life, nice try to derail it from the real point of living in a small town to avoid terrorist attacks and refusing to go to big cities though.

Nice try Cart. 8.5 for the attempt, but only 6.2 for execution.
