I know I'm good at what I do, but I know I'm not the best.
But I guess that on the other hand, I could be like the rest.

I'm glad to see Total Annihilation ranked as #1. That game was simply amazing. So much versatlity. I've still yet to see an RTS come close to what the involvement that game could turn in to.
Also nice to see one of the close combat series make it in, I always loved playing the germans in CC3 because hearing them screaming in german always made me feel so eeeeeeeeeevil.

I could make a case for any of the following being the best of all time:
Total Annihilation
Starcraft
Warcraft III
Age of Empires II
All 4 of them were extremely innovative and are way above all others IMO.

Haha, yes I LOVE that, but I hate the actual titans. If you can get a titan fast it really doesnt matter how good you are, you can almost always win, except against someone who is really good norse or egyptian (hersirs and priests). Even atlanteans cant really kill a titan and fight other stuff off at same time, even though they can turn all their units into heros pretty much.Kwonryu DragonFist wrote:AoM : Titans made AoM a much better game!
Thx Repeat Build Units!
Btw, you still play Kwon? If so, whisper me sometime and we will play a game. I play as I_Liek_This_One or NS_Lieks_You.

If you let your opponent reach titan age you suck!

Mostly you want to finish your enemy in Era 2 or Era 3! Not often you let it go to Mythic even!
IF as an Atlantean you should let the enemy summon a Titan, np, send in tanks and turn your Archers into Heroes. Np See ya Titan!

Well, rarely does it ever get to Titan anymore, I've gotten much better now (rating is like 1675 and I haven't lost in the last 5 games,1700 here I come). And the reason the turma heros thing doesnt work is because smart people with titans keep lots of units around it too, to take down the heros. Usually if someone starts trying to get a titan, I just make sure I get one at same time and trade em off.Kwonryu DragonFist wrote:Bullshido!Asheran Mojomaster wrote:Even atlanteans cant really kill a titan and fight other stuff off at same time, even though they can turn all their units into heros pretty much.

Not Turma Heroes!
Arcus(Archers) with better damage and range! Horde of them!
Archer-Heroes will take care of most infantry (and Myth Units since they are heroes!), Katapeltes will take care of the cavalry!
The Titan will be Stopped!
Anyways, never let the opponent reach that age! What Civ ya playin Ash?
Im guessing Isis!

Nope, Oranos usually, and actually, usually they dont get Titan anymore, but it still happens sometimes. And I guess I just still use Turmas because I always used em when they were overpowered lol. Kinda a habit, plus its nice to have something that can own archers (katas and murms dont do the job).
I play Hades too sometimes, but I suck with him. He is just lots of fun to play. Its fun having so many archers (with some infantry thrown in to kill horses if they come to try to drop my archers) that I have to have 3 groupings to select em all. If I play Hades though, they almost always get a titan started (but with Hades they usually dont finish it, thx Earthquake + UP).
Edit : Oh yeah, I usually add in like 5 or 6 Cheiroballistas too for the infantry, that way I have a counter for all types, I always have a huge amount of wood \ gold early in the game (so I can build rax and TCs fast) so its much easier for me to go heavy on wood than food (If I did the arcus I would have to add in some horses for archers, more food). Though, once I hit heroic I usually go OMGIAMRETARDEDCAUSEALOTISTWOWORDS harder on food so I can get those destroyers going, those things own buildings so hard. And actually, been thinking about going Kronos now, seems the Hekas are fucking badasses now, sure expensive, but 850 hps and can kill a fortress in 10 seconds (a single heka).

Hekas are teh bomb now (If you decide to go to Mythic!)

I remember flash rushes were so effective because the gun firing would lag the other if you could have a dozen or so of them firing all at once. Cavedog patched in a new shot animation for them and they weren't as effective anymore.
The best TA tactic was to build an air transport as fast as you can and kidnap the other guy's commander with it. I was always surprised at how well that tactic worked considering the fact that one single static defense or one single unit that can hit aircraft can completely block it. Later on they patched it so commander's could shoot aircraft with their laser and totally ruined it. I got into the top 5 TA players on Case's ladder with that tactic!
Chris Taylor is reputed to be working on a spiritual successor to TA at GPG right now. I'm pretty excited about it. I haven't been able to appreciate another RTS as much as I used to since TA came out. They've all been sub standard rock-paper-scissors events.

I don't remember lagging because of the gunfire, I thought it was the fact that if you assigned your commander to help build you could put them out fast as hell and it wouldn't really tax your resources. The other guy's Commander could D-gun but there's so many coming at him its just... well... zerg. Bind rushing?
hmm, a couple of basic laser towers could fry a bunch of flash tanks without too much trouble. but yeah, you could build those little bastards pretty fast. I used to have 2 basic factories with a bunch of construction airplanes guarding them pumping out tons of flashes and peewees to back up my larger units whenever I attacked. they also made great scouts in huge packs so I could target my berthas on their statics.
the best thing about TA is that there were so many units but none of them were useless.
