I LOVE Halifax. My aunt and uncle live there and one of my cousins had her wedding there. They said something like Halifax at ~500k people has more bars than any other city in Canada. Or perhaps it was more bars per capita than any other city. At any rate, it was a beautiful area with nice people and a lot of stuff to do.

We were there when those travelling street performer people were there, I can't remember what they were called. It was so much fun, I can't wait to go back sometime.

Please don't judge all pot smokers based on his example, that's discrimination! The group of people dumber than you includes pot smokers and people who don't smoke pot alike, just as the group of people smarter than you includes both types.

When my ship pulled into Halifax, we had one sailor go AWOL there because he did not want to leave. It was a pretty cool place.

OK clarifications nad myth de-bunkings inc...

Jean Chretien is an elected official he sits as the MP for Chicoutimi or some other place in Quebec that receives an ungodly amount of tax-payer handouts to ensure that he was re-elected over the years. He is also an asshole and has been acting as semi-dictator since he decided not run in the next election, thus freeing him of any political consequences for his actions.

The elected House in Canadian Parliament is the House of Commons. It is a representation-by-population set up with roughly 1 seat per 100 000 people. The party that wins the most seats in the House of Commons forms the government. There is no fucky electoral colleges or any such happy horseshit that no one understands save a few lawyers from Harvard. The Canadian Senate is appointed by the Prime Minister's office and traditionally does not exert the same influence as the Commons (i.e. it will not kill bills the Commons pass, although it may delay them... the basic premise being that the Commons reflects the will of the people of the nation, thus the Senate has no real right to quash anything that is not an immediate threat to the country).

The Prime Minister does NOT have to be an elected official (i.e. does not have to hold a seat in the House of Commons) but must be the leader of the party who elects the most seats. Most major political parties in Canada either choose a leader who holds seat or may have an MP in "safe" riding resign and run their new leader in the bi-election, to ensure their leading voice is in the House. Leadership campaigns for the various parties are a little like the presidential primaries, except they are only done when the party feels it needs a new leader (thus are indeterminate time periods although all the parties have provisions for leadership reviews) and not as long, drawn out or expensive.

Federal elections are roughly evey 4 years but there is no hard and fast rule on when they have to be. There is usually some indications of when the elections will be held, leading to some earlier election-style rhetoric but the campaigns themselves are usually only 6-12 weeks long.

The Queen and thus Governor General do hold the ability to dissolve parliament, although this has never happened in the history of the country. The last time I heard this power being thought of being used was in the 1980's in Australia (can't remeber wtf their gov't was doing... seems to me it might have been trying to form a republic without the consent of the electorate: the Monarchy does not frown on the formation of these republics, only doing so without the will of the people).

Canada does have a (thankfully) small religious right. It is mostly present in rural areas in the Prairie Provinces (unfortunately), although it does exist in rural Ontario and BC as well. Canadian conservatism on the whole tends to be more fiscal than social and is no where near what exists in the US.

Given the choice, I like the Canadian system more than the US one, as its what I know and it seems more straightforward. As for the leaders, I'm not sure who I distrust more: Jean or W. Neither one of seems to be strong on disclosure or honesty. W just has more firepower behind him.

Much <8 for Halifax!
Much h8t for flying into Halifax airport in bad weather.

There is a spot just SW of Halifax on the coast called Mahone bay (just across from Peggys' cove). It's pretty much my dream-spot to live. I'd love to retire there if I don't wind up like 80% of old people that have cold weather turn there health bad, and have to flee to Florida.

The Halifax airport rules. They have parking meters! I managed to park like 10 feet from the terminal for a quarter. Beautiful.

And Krimson's entirely right. Xyun is an obvious and prominent example, but there are plenty of people on these boards who have abused a pretty filthy amount of drugs. Many are still entirely coherent.

It has nothing to do with the fact that I am “incoherent”, since I am not by any means. I just can give two shits about my grammatical errors and sentence structure when posting on a message board.
Kylere, what the fuck are you doing about my mage skills, weren’t you the one that after two weeks of talking shit about my “lack of skills” refused to duel me, to prevent embarrassment in case you lost. Then before the duel we made some no dispelling rule or something like that, and then Kylere goes and does it anyways with an old right click item of some kind.
