Here is his latest supreme court justice nominee:

This is where george could fuck us. These people get lifetime positions, and make monumental decisions.

Last I read the democrats were fillibustering to block scotus nominations. What's going on now?

Jimmy Holmes puts the fear of jesus into me, and not in a good way.
James Leon Holmes: Women should do what they're told
A former president of Arkansas Right to Life, Holmes once compared abortion to the Holocaust. Holmes, nominated to the District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas, also wrote in a newspaper article that, "the wife is to subordinate herself to her husband" and that "the woman is to place herself under the authority of the man." Holmes has derided concern for rape victims, writing, "concern for rape victims is a red herring because conceptions from rape occur with approximately the same frequency as snowfall in Miami."
Honestly I wish Americans would inform themselves about the fascist fucking cretins that their president appoints.

Yes, it is a biased, but it gives a list of names & and a brief run-down on a few things. If one cared to look into it further, they could.

Here is some of Mr. Holmes work. Now, I realize that very few of you will actually be able to stand reading through all of this, and it isn't all too directly relavent. Just keep in mind that the same person who wrote this could have a supreme court seat in a country that has a basic priciple of the seperation of church & state.

The first link did work fine when I posted, now it doesn't ...hmmm.
James Leon Holmes

Nominated to be a U.S. District Court judge for the Eastern District of Arkansas.

Served as president of Arkansas Right to Life (1986-1987) and advocated for a constitutional amendment to the Arkansas constitution that would have prohibited abortion completely.

In a letter to the editor Holmes stated, "The abortion issue is the simplest issue this country has faced since slavery was made unconstitutional and it deserves the same response."*

Holmes equated Americans who support abortion rights with Nazis. What they advocate, he wrote in 1982, is "abandoning what little morality our society still recognizes. This was attempted by one highly sophisticated, historically Christian nation in our century—Nazi Germany."*

Holmes dismissed the impact of a total abortion ban on impregnated rape victims as a trifle: "concern for rape victims is a red herring because conceptions from rape occur with the same frequency as snowfall in Miami."*
Note: Every year over 32,000 women become pregnant as a result of rape in the U.S. and about 50% of these pregnancies end in abortion.*

Holmes wrote that the proper role of women in marriage should be a biblical one, in which a "wife is to subordinate herself to her husband" and "place herself under the authority of the man."*

In 1997, he lamented that the feminist movement "brought with it artificial contraception and abortion on demand, with recognition of homosexual liaisons soon to follow."**

In a 1990 article, Mr. Holmes dismissed concerns about racial disparities in the imposition of the death penalty, by suggesting that "a disproportionate number of death row inmates are poor and minorities, but so are the victims". He also stated that "it seems unfair" for convicted murderers to do such things as writing their families from behind bars even though their victims cannot.***

Is that true? That's insane. While I don't think I'd ever encourage anyone that I impregnated to get an abortion, I have always been pro-choice. If this is a fact, it only strengthens that.

Look just because you all technically bow to the queen and kiss her ass still, does not mean you do not elect your politicians, so that angle is shot for you. You pick your House of Commons, they in essense pick the Prime Minister, same way many American cities work, highest vote count councilman acts as weak mayor, you have majority commons leader as Prime Minister, yes this can be overridden but name one time the Governor General has overrriden the prime minister selection via majority.

I found the passages about the Supreme Court in Micheal Moore's "Stupid White Men" very interesting. Not least cos I know very little about these weird US legal thingummys.
It seems pretty synonymous with the UKs "Law Lords". I must go and check up how these guys get their jobs. . .but I'm pretty certain they aren't appointed by the current PM to suit his/her tastes in legislature.

To my knowledge, and please correct me if I am wrong, there is not a current position open on the supreme court (although many think that one will open up in the near future). The opposition has been to appointees going to positions from which a future supreme court justice may be picked. Not to say that we shouldn't try to pick those with care even if they may not be subsequently proposed for the supreme court (and from the excerpts posted in the thread, Holmes certainly doesn't look like a stellar candidate). It looks like Holmes is being nominated to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas. Unless Skogen's posted information is from an older source.

There are twelve Lords of Appeal in Ordinary (or law lords). They are equivalent to
supreme court judges in other countries. They are appointed by The Queen, on the
advice of the Prime Minister, usually from the ranks of the senior appeal court
judges in each part of the United Kingdom. They were, in fact, the first life peers to
be created, 82 years before the Life Peerages Act 1958.
Well well. I know nobody cares but me :P

He is not born as a prime minister, he is elected by his party holding a majority of the house of commons, as a matter of fact the entire house of commons is elected.

No matter how you try to spin it, he is not conjured from thin air, he is elected. Also, he is an idiot.

Right, but the two eldest members, Stevens, 80 and Chief Justice Rehnquist, 75, are expected to retire over the next few years.
Another possible retiree in the near future, Justice Ginsburg had a bout of colon cancer, so who knows what the future holds for her.

appointed by your party != being elected by the people. by that logic, anyone the president appoints to his staff is also elected because the people voted for him to do that kind of thing.

Jean Chretien isn't a saint but he is further from the devil. He can also be damn funny.

While you think otherwise I think legalization of weed is very forward thinking legislation. Note that cigarettes and beer are my only vices. I think since he decided to retire he has been amazingly brazen. I like it. If more politicians were more concerned with doing their job than keeping their job we would be much better off.

The Queen is a historical figurehead, nothing more.

One thing that stands out to me about members of parliment is we have very few extremists either way. I think we just generally lean towards moderation. Our liberal party is conservative in many ways, including cutting spending and paying down debt with the surpluses generated from those cuts. Does Canada even have a religious right?

A side effect of this however is Canadian politics are generally bland and boring.

You will never get Kyoukan to admit that Forthe.

Actually I admire the decision to legalize and prep to tax something the government cannot stamp out For those unclear I am a conservative republican who is also pro-legalization of marijuana, prochoice and antiabortion ( Because not liking something, does not mean it should be illegal or we would have to arrest all the WWF fans) , I am for giving people a helping hand but not forever and cutting them off if they abuse it, pro major R&D spending and last but not least anti heavy taxation to pay for people that do not pay taxes.

Reality is, Canada elects its politicians same as the US does, a confederation with a parlimentary democracy is not as removed from constitution-based federal republic as Kyoukan would like to believe. We as voters in both countries tend to make the choices we deserve, we as voters in both countries are in the minority because most do not vote, and we as voters in both country consist of a wide range of people from ignorant to well informed.

Michael Moore represented nothing resembling the truth about Flint Michigan, the worst things he represented were untrue ( Rabbit Lady lived more than 20 miles away from Flint, that is like blaming Cincinnati for what people in Kentucky do) the timelines were altered and he blamed GM for what was actually the sole fault of the United Auto Workers Union combined with a lack of foresight on the part of the City of Flint Mayor and City Council. Flint is making a comeback and is certainly more livable than it was 10 years ago even with surviving criminal and or incompetent mayoral representation since the 1940's.

If you use Michael Moore as a point of fact then someone using Rush Limbaugh as a fact source has the same level of validity that you possess.

facetiousness

Facetious \Fa*ce"tious\, a. [Cf. F. fac['e]tieux. See Faceti[ae].] 1. Given to wit and good humor; merry; sportive; jocular; as, a facetious companion.

2. Characterized by wit and pleasantry; exciting laughter; as, a facetious story or reply. -- Fa*ce\"tious*ly, adv. -- Fa*ce\"tious*ness, n.
It's funny because of how right you are. Michael Moore is a moron.

EDIT: And you're right, it's the rabbit lady not the chicken lady. My bad. The movie sucked and I really wasn't paying too much attention at the time.

much like other burnouts, he communicates through choking sounds, hand signals, and blank stares. On occasion he uses an instrument to communicate thoughts. This comes through a series of water gurgling sounds and is passed through a glass instrument. Unfortunately, it usually means nothing more than "Pass the Cheetos, I have killed the last 14 points of my IQ."

OMG Poor Newfies, some of the best people to play on Veeshan were newfies.

I really liked them all, and I am shocked and saddened for thier fate when Kyoukan is also a Newfie.

Poor Poor Good Newfies, you must battle the Dark Sith Kyoukan in your midst
