Strawberry Deserts?

Post by noel »

Anyone have some good desert recipes that feature the strawberry?

Thanks as always in advance.

Strawberry Pie

1 (9 inch) pie crust, baked
1 quart fresh strawberries
1 cup white sugar 3 tbsp cornstarch
3/4 cup water
1/2 cup heavy whipping cream

Arrange half of strawberries in baked pastry shell. Mash remaining berries and combine with sugar in a medium saucepan. Place saucepan over medium heat and bring to a boil, stirring frequently.

In a small bowl, whisk together cornstarch and water. Gradually stir cornstarch mixture into boiling strawberry mixture. Reduce heat and simmer mixture until thickened, about 10 minutes, stirring constantly. Pour mixture over berries in pastry shell. Chill for several hours before serving. In a small bowl, whip cream until soft peaks form. Serve each slice of pie with a dollop of whipped cream.

Strawberry Trifle

1 quart whole milk
1 cup granulated sugar
2 tbsp cornstarch
4 medium eggs
1/2 cup sherry (optional)
2 cups cream, whipped
2 1 pound pound cakes
1 quart sliced strawberries
Strawberry Jam or Jelly

In mixing bowl beat together sugar, cornstarch and eggs until smooth. In double boiler mix milk and egg mixture; heat until mixture is thickened, stirring constantly. Add sherry, if desired. Set aside to cool.

Whip the cream and set aside.

Slice cake into 1/2 inch slices. Arrange layers in deep crystal bowl or a trifle bowl, beginning with cake slices , a layer of strawberry jam, layer of strawberry slices, layer of custard and a layer of whipped cream. Repeat until all ingredients are used (usually two layers in my trifle dish). Chill about 6 to 8 hours.

Actually strawberries need very little to be yum...

I usually just hit em with a little granulated sugar then hit them with a bit of cream whipped to soft peaks.

Whipped Cream:

1 cup heavy cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon confectioners' sugar

(put bowl and whisk in freezer for an hour before whipping the cream)

Or you could make a Shortcake...mmmm...

I like strawberries to be very simple, myself:

Take some sliced straberries and splash them with orange-muscat wine, a bit of fresh orange or grapefruit juice, and a generous helping of sugar. Throw in a few sprigs of fresh mint if you feel like it. Let these steep for a few hours.

Make a topping for them out of sour cream or creme fraiche, sugar, and either lemon zest of amaretto.

Freshly picked strawberries, ripe but not to the point of soggyness.
Cream, preferably fresh as well.
Sugar.

Pour strawberries in bowl. Pour cream over strawberries. S*prinkle sugar over. Eat. Die of pure pleasure.

Hell yes, this is a must try since it is very easy. Sounds odd, atleast it did to me when I first tried it. They compliment eachother soooo perfectly. It's an easy to make(pfft yer not making anything really) delight.

Those the strawberries that are usually just fluffy white inside? Those are yum and have a nice tartness to them. Have em in my garden, kinda just growing wildly all over the ground heh.
