Sigs and Avatars, a multiple choice quiz.
Avatars:
A. No larger than 80x80
B. No larger than 100x100
C. No larger than 120x120
D. Leave it FFA
E. Other - explain
Sigs (specifically graphics):
A. Standard Banner Size(460x60) or smaller - unlimited
B. Standard Banner Size(460x60) or smaller - once per thread
C. Any size (within reason, don't be retarded) - unlimited
D. Any size (within reason, don't be retarded) - once per thread
E. Leave it FFA
F. Other - explain
Understand with this we aren't trying to impose 'rules' on this, just general guidelines, for the most part there has been no problems, but multiple instances of huge sigs in single threads has been brought to our attention.
Trying to see what the general opinion is on this so we can make adjustments accordingly. Just answer with the letters of your choice, or explain your Other, thanks.

if you were walking around and you came upon a tulip with tits, would you let it be for the rest of the world to enjoy.. or would you pick it and carry it off to a secluded area to motorboat them?

I know I'm good at what I do, but I know I'm not the best.
But I guess that on the other hand, I could be like the rest.

Avatars seem to be just fine as is.
Some signatures might bother narrowband users. I don't really think in dimensions, but something a long the line of aranuil's is a fair amount of bits to use for a sig. just mho.
Edit: see Akaran's above for what "a tad too big" is. haha

I don't think you were attacking me or anything, but just so you know... Mine's been disabled. Xo mentioned it might be too much, so I turned it off. Didn't require rules or anything.Pubin wrote:Avatars seem to be just fine as is.

naw man I was saying yours is about what a fair amount of bytes is for a sig picture.
Furthermore I just saw Searyx's new retarded ass big avatar on another post. I will personally send you 100 dollars U.S. to begin the ban searyx fund. His faggotry really ruins my day

And therein lies the difference between Searyx and the rest of the people on this board.. A reasonable request made and honored no questions asked, no bullshit, no trying to get around it and annoying people.... Mine's been disabled. Xo mentioned it might be too much, so I turned it off. Didn't require rules or anything.
Searyx, you asked on another thread why Aranuil can get away with posting "mindless drivel" while people slam you for it.. theres your answer. BOYEEEE!

Honestly, sig size concerns have been floating around long before today, today just happened to bring this about a bit sooner, since as pointed out we all have full time jobs, and better things to do than instigate flamewars over pixels (not that we don't enjoy reading about them). We prefer to find out peoples sentiments regarding their size, rather than imposing rules without seeing what people think first.
Also when in doubt, http://www.adshield.org saves the day. Pop in searyx.com (or whatever other site is hosting a sig you don't like) and poof, all offending avatars/sigs/whatever's go away.

I hear what you're saying about adshield, Py, and I'll probably take you up on it on my home computer, but here at work, which is where I do most of my posting from I can't and won't.
I still think it's assanine that I should have to do that for one user who can't at least show a miniscule amount of respect for the other users here on the board.

You don't have to do it for that one user, it's just a suggestion.
Remember, Searyx isn't the only one of his type out there, he just happens to be the one who makes himself known here. But again, I digress, this thread isn't supposed to be about that, it's about sigs and avatars! No hijacking my thread til at least page 2 plz. Honestly I've adshielded about 20 different sigs here just to compact my page - around here pictures of anything not specifically computer/job related is just as bad as pictures of pussy.

Arsecn? You do realize that C for Avatars would require you to lose your current Avatar, right?
E. for Avatars. Avatars should be whatever length, as long as they don't stretch the side page. 146 width seems to be the maximum you can go before it starts to stretch. Height is a little funkier, because it depends on the size of your sig, which brings me to Signatures:
Signatures, I'd pick E again. I find that Width does not matter as long as the page doesn't stretch on an 800x600 screen. With height, I prefer a maximum between 200 and 240 (my current sig is 352x240) I picked 240 because it's the standard height for an online video clip. I'm going to lower it to 294x200 and see if that looks more compact, but I like to use sigs as an easy visual to locate your own or other people's posts.
So... Avatars Max Width at 146, No Maximum Height as long as the Avatar does not stretch your posts. Which means that if you do not have a graphic sig, your avatar height choice is limited.
Signature Max Width somewhere around 500 or 600 (not sure when page stretching occurs) and Signature Max Height between 240 and 200.
I did not come up with these rules in response to the question. This is just basic etiquette that I follow on other boards that use phpbb. (I post on a couple others)

We left flamevault for a reason. Unnecesary policing was a big part of that reason, and this feels like the thin end of the wedge.
If Searyx is trolling and you dont like it just ignore him. Cant, he's posting NWS stuff that might get you shot? Well, um, much as I hate to say it, it isnt actually your constitutional right to goof off websurfing while youre supposed to be working. Yes ok, sometimes youre bored and need a break, and sometimes there isnt any work to do in the first place, but its still an unapproved perk that you take for yourself often against the express wishes of the person who is paying you money to do something else; its not your right. Searyx's right to post cheesecake > your right to commit borderline fraud. I know you may not like that. I dont like it much myself, but at the most basic level its the truth.

Varia, I beg to differ, this is FAR from the policing we got at the old board, and besides, this is about Avatars and Sig sizes!VariaVespasa wrote:We left flamevault for a reason. Unnecesary policing was a big part of that reason, and this feels like the thin end of the wedge. *Hugs* Varia
As far as the NWS stuff goes, you may be *right* that "it isnt actually your constitutional right to goof off websurfing while youre supposed to be working." But most people who post here do so from work, and most of us know this. And unfortunatly there's one or two who don't respect that fact. Maybe because they don't have jobs or maybe because they still live with mom and dad, or maybe both.
Now give me a big *Hug*

Oh I know its a far cry from what we got on flamevault, its just caution about getting on the slippery slope is all. Most of the idiotic laws and regulations in the world got there one small perfectly logical step at a time, and then you take a step back and suddenly see where all those steps took you...

i think there is nothign wrong with a small amount of sig policing.
it serves the practical function of lowering download times for dialup users (assuming some exist), and it makes the page more aesthetically pleasing to read if it isnt covered with giant retarded pictures of the only dragon some gimp druid has ever been in the same zone as.
as for the NWS stuff, that is a no brainer. that is obviously, in my view, beyond reasonable expectations of moderator tolerance. it is also basically disrespectful to the community. there are very few rules here and that is good.
