Sold all my CDs...

Sold all my CDs...

Post by Fairweather Pure »

I've had all my CDs on my computer for well over a year so I bit the bullet and sold all my original copies. I backed all my MP3s up on my GF's computer, as well as two seperate friend's HDs. FYI, CDs don't sell for shit. :( I averaged 2.25$ per CD. It did add up though, as I had well over 300.

I'm kinda feeling regret, like when I sold all my Transformers* after I moved out of my parent's place at age 19. I just miss stuff that I collected or put a lot of time/thought into even though it will just sit around collecting dust. It's funny how it's hard to let go of something so stupid.

Has anyone else done this, or is considering it?

*I really regret the Transformer sale now. I had over 100, many first edition, all in mint with boxes/decals included, and those things are worth a fucking shit ton of money now. Don't worry, I still have my entire mint condition series 1-17 of Garbage Pail Kids!

I still have nightmares of the day I parted with Optimus Prime for $1.25 at a garage sale.

I know I'm good at what I do, but I know I'm not the best.
But I guess that on the other hand, I could be like the rest.

Collections always have more sentimental value than actual value. I wouldn't give you 1.00 for your tranformers but they are worth a lot to you.

If I still had my Comic collection they wouldn't hold much value to you either...although you could probably sell it for 20K at 1/3 it's value to a wholesaler easy.

So you have already sold off all of your Dire Straits, I assume?

oh, and I really wish I didn't pour gasoline all over my original Star Wars figures, and burn them when I was 10.

I was the last person in my college peer group to get married. Therefore, I was given all the married guys' porn. I ended up with about 40 tapes of mid to late 80's porn.

I recently started giving these away in my 'Bad Beat' jackpots during poker.

I do feel some regret, but can still stroke from memory.

Concensus from te younger folks wathing the porn? Trim that bush please ... I agree.

I was lucky enough to be a baseball/football/basketball card collecter before the crazy hit. My biggest findings when I was in high school were 3 MJ rookie cards that are now worth well over $1000 each (have not checked in years to be honest). I still have all of them sitting in a closet (well protected) and figure that when I have kids I will open them all up again and see what they are worth. My dad gave me his collection which includes like 4 fulls sets of pre-1960 cards. Those sets are now worth well over $5000 each.

My porn collection is next on the chopping block. I have about 150-200ish, all dubbed on VHS (2 per 6 hour tape!). All of them are 2-3 years old, so it's all choice stuff. I'm trying to decide the best medium to sell them and make the most money...

Once my porno's get old I usually pawn em off to a friend, they tend to pay more then ebay, and you can always steal it back for a few weeks when you miss that great lesbian scence on the trampoline.

Last year's project was to replace and dispose of all my vinyl. Mission accomplished.

This year, as soon as I get my broadband reconnected, I'm sorting out and selling off my many, many, MANY M:tG cards. I totally resented just moving house and having to carry that heavy pile of cardboard.

I would never sell or part with any of my CD's. I liked them when I bought them, you never know when a couple of years could go by and I'd like them again. And I don't trust hard drives enough for that to be my only copy. I like the convenience of being able to play them anywhere. Dunno, sorta guess I have an attachment to the cd's themselves, they usually reflect a point in time of my life.

Now that I have a mp3 player in my car, I can put 10+ albums on a single disc. Furthermore, if I break them or they get stolen, I'm out absolutely nothing. Lugging around a case, or package of cds is just something I never liked doing to begin with.

Don't trust Hard Drives? Burn them to DVD as a back-up. A DVD can hold almost 5 GB. My current collection can fit on about 10 DVDs. That's 1/30th the space they take up now. The CD rack has also been retired, which is one less thing to have cluttering up the living room area.

Anyway, I'm glad I did it now. I still have 3 more boxes to sell and I've already gotten more money than I expected.
