A stay issued on the order allowing Maurice Clarrett to participate in the NFL draft.

Look out Canada, here he comes!

I really dislioke Clarett as a person and would never draft him but he does have a case. Denying people a right to a job based on age is clearly against the law. He won't win his case before saturday but he will win it eventually. The NFL and NCAA don't want the law changed because then the NCAA would lose out on a lot of potential money makers.

Personally I think the kids should stay in school and get an education but if I was in the situation where I could be making millions or risking millions playing for free then I would take the millions and get my degree later.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I would have stayed in school. That said, Clarrett is a moronic idiot and I laughed when I heard he got denied. Although, would almost have been as enjoyable to watch Ray Lewis take his head off...

Bullshit. First, it is totally up to the organization to choose the age, which they have. Second, hiring by age varies by state so, again, there is no overlying rule that says it's illegal. Third, the three year rule is one of the best things football has going for it aside from the salary cap.

While it is pointless for people as talented as Williams and Clarett to attend class knowing full well they will move on to pro ball, pro football is not some pussy sport like basketball where you can throw 18 year olds at. While I do have mild sympathy with Williams, I am glad Clarett got stonewalled. Why would the NFL want to take a chance on some fucking thug? They have enough players getting into trouble and don't need an ass like Clarett to be making a name for himself by breaking the law. And I give it 3 seasons to see his name in the paper for doing something illegal. The point is, if he can't make it through college without fucking up, lying to everyone that tried to help him save his family, then how well do you think he will do OFF the field if he goes pro.

Yes, I know full well that was not the point of the NFL's case, but it speaks volumes on why he shouldn't be in the draft. He is too young. He acts like an immature kid in high school still. Sure, he may be able to play, but he is clearly not ready for the big leagues. That is why the rule is in place.

It's not over yet! Some liberal supreme chick is going to make a decision on Clarretts emergency appeal.

I could care less about Clarrett but I'd like to have Mike Williams in the draft to increase the chances of the Cardinals getting Larry Fitzgerald.

On a side note, I really don't care about the mental well being of our pro athletes or those wanting to be pro atheletes! Let a 16 year old into the NFL draft. His crushed dreams and ruined life will make a good 60 Minutes or 20-20 piece. This is all about the good of the many outweighing the good of the one. If it brings a family closer together watching some kid being interviewed in jail because he ended up dealing drugs due to an early age failed draft attempt, then it's for the greater good.

just because somebody has the legal right to enter the draft doesnt mean a team has to take him.

i love the simpleminded sports talk analysis "young kids in the draft will ruin the draft, these kids will get hurt, bla bla bla"

if you draft an 18 year old kid, you are stupid. period. you wasted a draft pick, and i hope the kid has life insurance.

how many NFL teams want to pay a kid to be on a scout squad for 3 years (paying him the guaranteed $$ from a high pick), develope him as an NFL talent, then have him go to free agency before he ever does anything for them?

nobody.

i think the Supreme Court will rule that Clarett can enter the draft. So what, it doesn't mean anything. IF a team wants to draft a fat, slow, young guy who hasn't been working out, they are fucking idiots.

the legal right to enter the draft does not equal getting drafted.

i can enter the NFL draft. i'm pretty sure i won't get drafted.

Shit Voro, I'll be damned if a team wouldn't take him in the third round at the latest...even with him out of shape. You take him that late, you train him up...or you ruin his career however you can or something if he decides to hold out.

There is no way he sits through the draft without hearing his name called...if he is allowed in that is.

It's not like a good football player is fucked if they can't get into the NFL. The Canadian and Euro leagues are a great option, and while they don't make NFL money, it's not like someone of Clarett's potential wouldn't get paid well there.

His lawyers are actually fucking him rather than helping him. The longer he sits around listening to his agent tell him how great he is and how he's ENTITLED to this or that, the flabbier and slower he gets.

I sympathize with Williams, because he's clearly ready. He's hard like a rock, fast, quick, has good hands and good technique, and runs tight routes. I think that if Clarett wasn't having this legal tantrum, the league prolly would have let him in.

As I said, I think Clarett is a piece of shit and I wouldn't draft him. I also agree that most 18-20 year olds are not ready for the NFL. They should have the right to fail for themselves though.

Here is the law: http://www.eeoc.gov/facts/qanda.html The law states that it applies to 40 years or older but I could see where this case could go to the supreme court and make major changes to the discrimination laws.

There are some players ready to play in the big leagues and they should be given a chance. Mike Williams is ready from everything I have seen.
