If only there was a place to view within 30 miles of me... Yay light pollution.

I remember taking a Stellar Astronomy class at Arizona State. They set up telescopes at the top of a building which is right in the middle of downtown Tempe, which is at the heart of the Phoenix metro area. You could barely see any stars in the first place but I remember some guy coming out of the elevator, his eyes hadn't adjusted yet so he couldn't even see a few stars. The instructor was pointing out constellations and this guy blurts out, "I can't see shit!"

It really was a joke to try and see anything in the middle of a big city. After that night, we spent most of our lab nights across the street at the Beer Barrel.
