New GA Environmental Car tags are pro-Bush?

Post by Daerib Bittcroaker »

Apparently the image of the bald eagle has become anathema to environmentalists because it equates to support of our current president...

Image

The GA department of natural resources did test cases prior to releasing the current wildlife tag and found that the eagle and flag out-sold the deer and quail tag 2 to 1.

A significant amount of revenue is directed towards wildlife conservation from the sale of these tags.... Why on earth would anyone bitch about what was on the license plate at all?

So I guess what I am left wondering is since when did the flag and bald eagle become the symbol for one man... And for that matter why look a gift horse in the mouth? Use the money from the sale of said license plates for wildlife conservation and quit complaining about the source!

i like the quail image better too. That is all people are saying, the core customer base for this plate is saying they don't like the re-design.

The State is saying they want to sell to a broader audience. In doing so they have taken a calculated risk that they may be losing some repeat business.

I know those who eat, drink, and sleep right wing propaganda have a hard time removing partisanship from any choice in life, but basically this is an issue of aesthetics and sales volume.

That's it. NObody is marching on the capital or chaining themselves to trees. I know the wanna-be-facists want this desperately to be "yet another case" of UnAmerican Environmentalists.

but its not.

i'm just happy they didnt have a rebel flag on it.

Seriously. Considering it's Georgia, I'm just pleasantly shocked that it doesn't say "The South Will Rise Again!" or something equally ridiculous.

I don't know that I'd go so far as to paint this as support for Bush. I just think they are taking advantage of the ultra patriot nationalist feelings that are so prevalent in America these days to try and get a little extra money for the fund. As long as the money is going to preserve wildlife I don't have a problem with it.

Taking advantage? WTF!?!?!

It's a patriotic plate. That's all. What the fuck is wrong with showing a little patriotism? Oh that's right it's only cool to show patriotism within the 2 months after a terrorist attack. Assholes.

so basically, if i dont want an American flag on my license plate, by default i'm unpatriotic?

for the 3rd time, since 2 wasnt enough, nobody is saying anything is wrong with showing patriotism.

*****SOME***** customers are complaining because of the change in product.

Up until this year, the theme of the plate was a naturalistic scene. So somebody who may have had that plate for a few years wants to get another one, and guess what...its not for sale.

Hmmm i wanted a T-Shirt that said "If you can read this the bitch fell off" but they only had American flag T-shirts - I didn't buy one. I must be a fucking communist.

Not everybody wants politics to be imbued in every facet of their lives. i didnt know it was no longer OK for consumers to offer feedback about products they may or may not buy.

funny to see that the right wing has picked up the PC drum now that they have a use for it.

"oh you dont want the flag?! something is obviously wrong with you"

"I know you didnt come here to buy the flag. but its what we're selling. I am disturbed you don't want to buy it."

oh guess what, the license plate is actually selling. so what is the fucking point of this right wing propaganda anyway? right..to remind us of the blatant anti-American sentiment that it is to prefer pictures of Quails to Eagles.

I agree with Voro. I saw the Fox piece on it and the commentary didn't jibe with the comments by those interviewed. No one claimed environmentalists were upset that the plate represented "right wing politics" except the reporter. It sounds like they wanted a naturalistic scene, not a flag and an eagle - perfectly understandable.

Yes, the media (most sources) will spin stories, this is one case.

If they gave a shit, they would put the nature message at the top in the big text and the url at the bottom in that illegible-unless-you-are-within-two-feet font..

That's my only gripe about it.

I'm for any pro-environment message, whether or not it has a patriotic image or a burning american flag. If they care about the environment then that's a plus in my book. It's better than no environmental message at all.

Heh.. Australians are perhaps even more patriotic than Americans, I've never heard an Australian say "Yes, I know we suck"... however, I don't own anything w/ an Australian flag on it, and I don't know anyone that does.

All this exhibitionist patriotism does is make the rest of the world hate you even more with your "Greatest Country in the World" shit. Give it a rest, be *quietly* patriotic and mean it and be happy you live in the richest country in the world, instead of feeling the need to rub everyone's face in it ALL the damn time :)

Australians just snicker at how comical it is, poorer countries probably just resent the hell out of you for it.

Why? Because I find it laughable and insane that someone could extract that a bald eagle means "WE LOVE BUSH" ?

It's a fucking license plate. You live in America. The Eagle is a symbol of America and it's freedom. It's a sign of patriotism. So fucking what? How can an American be opposed to that? How does this even become an issue?

I bought a car this weekend and got a new PA plate. I don't even know what it looks like. Why would I give a fuck? If it had a swastika on it, okay, I can undestand that.

The GA license plate has a bald eagle on it. I'm at a loss. Amazing I have survived so long not being able to understand your stupidity and outrage at a symbol of our country. Yeah gosh you're right.

Midnyte: I'm honestly curious man. Who's been outraged and offended by the bald eagle? Who are you responding too? I don't get it.

And I think the new PA plates are the really ass-ugly ones with yellow, white, and blue pastel-ish stripes that fade into one another. The old yellow and blue ones were much nicer. Hopefully they've gotten a new design by now.

I'm just confused because you're reacting very emotionally to people who seem to be agreeing with you. I figured you were angry at them. Maybe you're just angry in general. That would also make sense.

just clarifying Mid, this isnt the general Georgia license plate.

this is one you make an additional $20 contribution to a wildlife fund and get. There are other "alternative plates" that feature logos of the various state schools, so somebody who went to UGA could get a plate with that university's logo, etc.
While a handful of liberal environmentalists claim the bald eagle and Old Glory together implies support for President Bush, big business and the war in Iraq, state wildlife officials say when they test-marketed several license plate designs, the eagle and flag tag came in first.
so 5 people being disappointed about a license plate design = news story?

I don't know Voro. Ask Foxnews.com.

Maybe it's trying to show how goofy environmentalists can be sometimes. /shrug

Noone's outraged, except possibly you at your mistaken perceptions that we're all trying to destroy your distorted image of america.

The point i'm trying to make, is that is a liscense plate you pay money for because you want to make a statement that is pro environment. Those images have nothing to do with environmentalism. The only thing even close is the near microscopic message that says 'give wildlife a chance' at the bottom.

It's pretty damn retarded if you ask me.

yes that is exactly what it is trying to do. It is trying to push a political agenda that the facts in this case do not support. For example, no environmentalists are acting strange at all.

unless strange these days is expressing an opinion that is not approved by the Ministry of Information.

Miniinfo?

I had to get a new plate this week. Originally wanted one for the university I attend, but alas, too few people requested the tag last year so none this year. Bastards. So I went to renew my old wildlife tag (yeah, the one with the quail), but "We're sorry sir, that tag has been replaced."

I'd seen the new wildlife deer tag (which I think is just ugly) and I hate the new plain Georgia tag (also, ugly). So I shelled out my extra $20 and went with the bald eagle tag. Would I prefer the tag show just a plain bald eagle instead of the bird on the flag backdrop? Most definitely.

I guess I'm a commie bastard. Either that, or as my girlfriend says, when it comes to aesthetics, I'm gay.
