Kingdom Hospital

Post by Canelek »

As a huge Stephen King fan, I was pretty excited about this. After watching, I am confused about all the strangeness, yet somewhat anticipating the episode next week.

All in all, I thought it was cool, but just plain weird(in a good way). Any other thoughts on this? :)

The acting's not spectacular and the dialogue seems forced at times. Other than those two minor drawbacks I liked the atmosphere of the show and the strangeness of it. Only something with Stephen King's name on it would have a giant vicious Anteater as some type of spirt animal hallucination :P

Definitely strange, but going to have to continue watching now to find out what it all means. Also, what happened in the last 15 minutes or so? I fell asleep :(

I am guessing the King is getting credit due to the teleplay? I haven't really looked into anything yet. Having the crow in the beginning is very 'The Stand'ish...but SK loves to inject his favorite antagonist wherever he can.

And Fu, I am not sure what happened in the last 15 minutes as it is kind of a jumble in my brain atm. Hopefully, they will reair episodes. :)

Bakara and I watched 5 minutes, looked at each other, and shut off the TV. Over The Top.

I wanted to like it, but I'm not sure I did. I might watch next week and see if I can be swayed.

If you're intrigued by the premise in any way, do yourself a favor and find the original "The Kingdom" and "The Kingdom II", two 4-part miniseries by Lars Von Trier (who directed Breaking the Waves, Dancer in the Dark, Dogville etc). It's in Danish so you'd have to do with subtitles, but it's absolutely worth it. Some of the best TV ever made, a sort of cross between ER and Twin Peaks.

What I've seen of King's butchery so far makes me TT.

Yeah Kingdom I and Kingdom II are <3...so was this based on that then?

I can't imagine anyone pulling this off with Von Trier's subtlety and style...I'll vote swedish here...;)

I have seen both of the originals on IFC and another larger movie channel (I wanna say Showtime) of late...

They sold the rights to Stephen King's production company a couple years back (think the story was that he was stuck somewhere and rented them at the local video store). Zentropa, the danish company that produced THE KINGDOM haven't got anything to do with this version, and it seems like Mr. King has taken quite a few liberties ;)

And Arbor, fu swede!

Next you'll be claiming Stig Bjorksson and Thomas Vinterberg (whats his name - nm looked it up) as Danes...and claiming Dogme 95 was an all danish idea...:P

Bah I can't find The Kingdom I or The Kingdom II showing on any of the movie channels...:/...

Though Tranceformer a documentary about Lars Von Trier by Stig Bjorksson is showing on IFC next Monday...:)...

I am still wondering where they dug up Andrew MacCarthy. :P The whole time I kept thinking about that horrid 'Weekend at Bernie's'.

Now that the horrible series called Kingdom Hospital are over, you poor US guys should try to see the real thing :)

If you use Edonkey, heres a page with the ED2K links for a danish/US (no, not sure if its subs or US dubbed) version, that i would highly reccomend downloading and seeing. Apart from being around 8 million times better, considerably shorter, and a hell of a lot more scarier, the download are actually quite small.

So if you wanna see how it should have been done, get The Kingdom from
http://www.the-realworld.de/modules.php ... e&rid=5570

And ill be happy to hear your feedback on the danish version, if you decide to see it :)
