From a football fan's point of view

Post by Chidoro »

and someone who was rooting for Carolina solely for underdog reasons, I enjoyed the game a ton. I can't possibly imagine what going for two-point conversions would have done for the remainder of the game, but it had to account for something. Pretty lousy time to get a terrible kickoff as well but I enjoyed the game a ton

Two teams who know how to win in the clutch = a great finish.

I dont see the 2point conversion attempts as big a deal as the announcers do, it really didnt change much of the game, the first if successful would have put the Panthers in a good position. The kick-off, well that was just stupid, not that the Panthers would have stopped them, but they might have had a little more to work with.

Wow - what a game!

I have seen most of each of the Pats game this year, and I can safely say they never looked better on offense, and their defense played pretty well, too - and they still almost lost! Hats off to the Panthers, and especially Jake Delhomme - what a game they played.

And grats to the Pats. It still feels like the Twilight Zone thinking about this historically sorry franchise winning it all two years ago. Now they've won two in a three year span: incredible.

An NFL team can't suck forever. Even the Bengals, Jets, and Cardinals will be at the top one day!

I slept through most of the first half. The second half was good thougha nd I didn't see any blaring coaching errors. I would have gone for the two pointers as well. Kasay's kick at the end is what killed Carolina. Overall a good game and it was worth watching whether you were rooting for either team or not. Can't wait till next year!

Here's one we haven't talked about yet, how fucking terrible is CBS' coverage? Jesus, from bad camera angles to showing NO instant replays to allowing fucking Phil Simms to talk. I never thought I'd say it, but please please please put the Superbowl on Fox next year.

Amen!

The no replay thing was pissing me off.

And Phil Simms...well read for yourself:

huh?

CBS should have pulled Nance off the sidelines and put him in the booth instead of Simms.

He moved to ABC a couple years ago, so you shouldn't have anything to worry about until they get the Superbowl.

I wonder who will do the Superbowl for Fox. I hope it's not Chris Collinsworth.

I wish they would just show the damn game without announcers. I don't need brian gumble or anybody for that matter explaining what is going on. I'd rather listen to donkey porn voice over than to listen to retired players try to explain the game to me ala: quarterbacks(Simms/Marino/etc),receivers(Irvin/Collinsworth/etc),dbs(Deion),coaches(madden). Just because you were a great player/coach doesn't mean your cut out to broadcast the damned game.

The NFL actually experimented with this back in the 60's I think after the AFL and NFL first merged. The results were less than enthusiastic from the fans. Allegedly it's not as good as you'd think without the commentators. I think it would be too quiet.

We just need some GOOD NFL announcers, like Keith Jackson for the NCAA games. They worry too much about getting ex-players to call games and not enough about people who are intelligent about the game (not to say players aren't) and who have a good television presence.

Thats the point I'm trying to make, I'd rather listen to donkey porn or watch in complete silence than to listen to those idiots try to announce the game.

One of the people I hated the most was Matt Millen, now he runs the local team. IMHO 95% of former star/famous players do not make good announcers/coaches/executives. Michael Irving, can't understand wtf he's talking about muttering like a crackhead. Troy Aikman's commentary is sharp as a marble. And those guys are some of the best former player/comentators i've seen.

A-Fucking-Men to that. Keith Jackson is the greatest football announcer of all time. I really enjoyed him and Bob Griese together, they'd make a good tandem for the pros.

Yeah, I think Aikman is one of the few recent players who have made the conversion to commentator nicely. They should put him with Darryl Johnston and let them try working together on broadcasts. Johnston is pretty good, too and they used to play together so they know each other already. I think that would make for good on screen chemistry.

actually, they need that one guy who does all the old nfl films to announce. nothing embodies football like watching old nfl clips with that deep voice talking slowly.

Man...you announcer haters are spoiled! Simms, Collinsworth, Gumble...these guys are heaven compared to what Im usually forced to listen too. Don Criqui and Steve Tasker have been doing bengals games for what seems like a decade. They are by far the most pathetic announcer duo employed by radio or television.

Id take Simms, Collinsworth, and even Solomon Wilcots on any given sunday.

I would rather have them put in someone who would add a touch of comedy to their broadcasts than these fuckwads that try explaining the footwork on the quarterback as being the reason he just threw a football into the side of the side judge's head.

Think Fred Willard as the commentator in Best in Show.....would add a real flavor to the game.

Throwing my least favorite announcer into the hat.

Joe Theissman. Everytime he opens his mouth I want to headbutt the tv.

We just got High Definition before football started this year.
