Tats have been old a decade ago. Various tribes have used them for centuries as to show one's passage into manhood and such.

Far as body modification, ritual scarring is just as old as tatooing, its based on the kelloid reaction which exhibits on non-caucasian skin as a result of shallow cuts (The scar protrudes above the skin)

Far as myself. Im very open minded on body mod, tatooing, and piercing, but some of these people are purely fucking retarded. Much like the "Lizardman" mentioned in the article.

Tattoos to me aren't a form of "Rebelion" or being "Bad ass" they're simply a way of visually conveying one's personality and beliefs to others.

Myself I plan to put an 8 Kanji string on my spine later this year.

As far as tattoos go I enjoy getting them. I have 4 so far and probally will get a few more. None of them are really visible, unless I wear a shirt with really short sleeves. People reallly do get some weird tattoos like my one friend got BEER tattooed on the inside of his lip why I don't know.
