id3 management program needed, suggestions?

Post by Kriista »

in my ongoing safa of id3 bullshit ive decided to use some 3rd party software to get my id3s organized

ive DLed a bunch of freeware, but OMGIAMRETARDEDCAUSEALOTISTWOWORDS crashes, some doesnt even change shit when its done etc..

i want to :

convert ALL my mp3s to id3v2 or whatever the standard/best is
be able to do whole folders at a time of editing
rename id3s from filenames or vice versa
remove all inessential id3 info(lyrics, comments etc..)from all mp3s
and some supertagging type feature would be nice too but i can do that in musicmatch after the fact

freeware a plus, or some kazaable shit is fine too

i looked for one forever and finally decided to write my own. i have the attention span of a goldfish so it's only about half finished or so. it has no GUI and since it was just for myself, i didn't intend on implementing one any time soon. it's in java. let me know if you're interested or want to finish it or maybe i could get motivated and finish it myself.

I use Tag&Rename and love it. Especially when the album is in the freedb database. Takes me me all of 15 seconds to tag them, rename them to my standard format and create a playlist.

It's not freeware though. 30 day trial period. I found it a bit cumbersome at first but used it a few more times and it felt more natural.

looking around the ipod forums i came across id3-tagit

freeware, does most of what i need, and it shows and lets you edit id3v1 and id3v2
as far as i knew, an mp3 had one or the other, not both all the time

has no freedb type functions, but its ok enough for what i need

winamp can edit them, but it's horribly slow and cumersome...id3-tagit has been my favorite free software so far...
