I usually just go to Bestbuy. I am wondering if any of you movie buffs know of a good place to buy online.

Amazon sometimes, another I can't think of offhand. I usually check them all real quick to see the best price.

Usually hit bestbuy for newer dvds as sometimes the newly released ones tend to hit close to the same as online retailers in price. For anything else I just use Dvd Price Search. Sometimes you gotta be careful with that site though as some of the companies it'll list aren't he best.

If I buy online I get them from Amazon.
If I buy from a store its Costco, Fred Meyer (cause they give free gifts with new release dvd purchases sometimes - like I got a free matrix t-shirt with Matrix, free bobble head doll with Two Towers and free 12-pack of pepsi with another movie).
Occassionally I'll buy the really cheap previously viewed movies from rental places - if its not a movie I absolutely have to have first run.

Typically I don't buy books online or any other media as I like going to bookstores but I've found Amazon.com great for rare or out of print books.
I was researching Negative Ionization awhile back and there's not a ton of books about the subject. I found one recommended on the net but it was out of print. I requested the book via Amazon and when they located the used book they sent me a quote. I then had the option to buy it which I did and it arrived soon after. The nice part was not being committed until they had already located the book giving me the opportunity to find it elsewhere if I could. Great service IMO.
For that reason, I'll probably always buy books via Amazon when I buy online and also try them out for other media. Newegg.com is still teh win for computer hardware though.

Locally, I get them from Best Buy.
Online, I usually use http://www.bestprices.com and occasionally amazon (I use amazon quite a bit though for books and cds). For single dvd's, amazon probably actually is the better deal if you can buy enough to get free shipping. If you are looking at getting boxed sets though (especially complete seasons of various tv shows), bestprices has signficant discounts on some of those. It varies, on some they don't have that much of a discount, but on some I have saved $20-30.
Another option, and how I found bestprices in the first place, is to use dvdprofiler. Go out to http://www.dvdprofiler.com, download their free software, enter the dvd's you are interested in into your wish list, and hit their option to check prices on them on the net. It will return the prices for each cd at the most popular purchase sites (it has about 10 it checks I think).

Usually Best Buy, Walmart/Sam's Club or Target, rarely Amazon.com for non-main stream stuff (like Cirque de Soleil DVD's)
I've never bought a used DVD simply because I see how they look when I rent them from Blockbuster or Netflix after a couple (hundred?) viewings. Nothing makes me as angry as watching a movie that gets stuck at some point and having to haul ass back to BB to exchange it for a different disc. And then argue with a clerk that I didn't do it, "the customer before me didn't report any problems with the disc"

Futureshop = owned by best buy, however there is some differences in the lineups they carry. though not much, and I'm still trying to figure out why they would open up a best buy next to a futureshop here in Winnipeg at both of their locations.
Best Buy | Old Navy | Some Craft geek Store| Futureshop
You can walk to fshop from best buy in about 2 minutes, I'm still confused by it all

Sorry for the late bump...
I buy most of my stuff from Best Buy (online because their stores are teh suck) the first week of release, but another place to try if you have one locally is Circuit City. Several of the big name DVDs (Xmen2 and one of the Disney's) were cheaper at Circuit City.
Bizarro stuff I get at Tower Records/Video (soon to be out of business) and/or Virgin Superstore locally, Amazon via i-net.

I know I'm good at what I do, but I know I'm not the best.
But I guess that on the other hand, I could be like the rest.
