Battlestar Galactica
Watched the first episode tonight, it was really good. I'm going to miss the first hour of it tomorrow though, cause 24 is on. I definitely plan on watching the rest of it though!

There were a few parts I didn't care for... like I think Adama could use a little more acting ability but mabay the stoic nature will subside once he finds Apollo is alive. I guess he was almost a little too stoic, even when he was trying to let Starbuck out of jail.
All in all, I really enjoyed it too and plan on watching the second half tomorrow night.

I watched it. I wouldn't call it a remake of any sort. There are just way to many differences from the original series.
I thought Adama acted fairly well. Starbuck and Apollo are both pretty bad actors though. The scene where apollo is yelling at his dad was some pretty horrible bad acting in my opinion. The cylon chick is pretty hot. I really like the story though and the graphics are pretty cool.
I will watch it tonight and am going to try and transfer it to my computer. I just have to figure out how with my new video card.

I saw parts of it. It looked pretty cheesy to me. The show must be on a very tight budget. Everyone looks like they are dressed in our present day clothing. Some of the helmets look straight out of a Mystery Science 3000 show.
I'm giving this a Sucks Ass rating for the time being.
Original Battlestar Galactica was teh win.

i TiVo'd it. watched the first 40 minutes this morning at 6am with my daughter. She thought it was a snoozefest. So far i am entertained and think it has some nice twists on the original.
i was a huge fan of Battlestar Gallactica as a kid. When i was in college, i went to New Orleans a bunch and i remember this one pool hall very fondly because they showed Battlestar Gallactica reruns at like 3am. that ruled =)

I think that was on purpose. I'm not sure what year this takes place in, but I don't think it's that far in the future. Also, given the nature of the war against the Cylons, I don't really think they are that much into being all techy and fancy. They're on a military vessel, not a fashion ship. =)Winnow wrote:I saw parts of it. It looked pretty cheesy to me. The show must be on a very tight budget. This isn't star trek, man!

Ok I actually sat down and watched the whole first half of the pilot. I thought it was pretty well done. LOTS of changes from the original, but I think they're refreshing. Admittedly, the acting wasn't that great though I did like Olmos and the Secretary lady. I personally don't expect good acting on TV anymore which why I rarely watch it.
First of all, it's not a continuation of the original, it's a "re-imagination".
The Cylons are robots, humanities children that come back a SECOND time to annihilate their creators. They mostly succeed leaving the bulk of humanity living on spaceships searching for Earth. I don't know what time period it's supposed to take place in, but I do know that after the first Cylon war the humans have settled on a lower-tech approach to their ships. This is mainly as a deterrent to the Cylon's ability to hack into computers with ease. The whole atmosphere reminded me of an aircraft carrier - which was the goal (but that's my view, and I wasn't in the navy). I personally like how they use "realistic" physics like intertia when flying in space (like they did in Babylon 5) instead of what you see in Trek and Star Wars.
The Cylons have many different models, not just the chrome toaster model from the original. They are all capable of different things. Don't really have much more info than that. You don't see the moving red eye much until their ships attack and drop what looks like a visor over the "cockpit" area which uses the red moving eye. Looks pretty cool IMO.
If you are at all interested I would suggest checking out the Galactica area of Sci Fi network's homepage (scifi.com). If you read the info about how and why they changed the show they way they did you will probably get a better appreciation for it.

So, what's the deal? Is this going to be a weekly series or were they just testing the market? I am not sure I liked the way it ended. I like Boomer. She's hot. I wasn't to impressed that they gave the same shitty haircut to Boxy that he had in the original series. I like the way they are handling the Baltar role though. Would be hilarious walking down the corridor and finding him in the throws of passion with no apparent partner.
They had 4 hours and they couldn't give any more backstory on the colonies than some half assed speech from the commander? But they could show scene after scene of the president lady giving orders and crying over something.
Nice premise SciFi, but honestly, stick to screwing up Farscape reruns or releasing bad movies that no one will watch any you advertise every commercial break.
I loved the cinematography during the fight sequences. When the camera zoomed in to get a better view of ships pouring out of Cylon battle cruisers. Win. It's just too bad that they couldn't lead into the story at all. I could give 2 shits about any of the characters and suddenly 3 hours and 45 minutes into the 4 hour pilot they mention some sup3r s3krit colony called Earth. Sorry, but for those of us who were too young to watch the original on TV, you've gotta do a little better than that.

i actually thought it was pretty good.
i would love it if they made a series. I totally agree with what Sartori wrote, and the word "refreshing" is absolutely the perfect adjective for it. I thought it was cool.
i just wish we had some of the older 'toaster' model Cylons saying "By your command" in their cool subway train voice (the train at the Atlanta Airport used to talk like a robot
)

It's so refreshing that they should have titled it something other than Battlestar Galactica : ) You just can't replace Adama from Gunsmoke!Voronwë wrote:i actually thought it was pretty good.

Possible title:
Present Day Clothed People in Funny Hats with Space Ships
Whatever! One of those cowboy shows!Voronwë wrote:BONANZA!!

Have Gun, Will Travel is the only cowboy show that should have ever made it to TV.
-------------------
Have Gun Will Travel reads the card of a man.
A knight without armor in a savage land.
His fast gun for hire head’s the calling wind.
A soldier of fortune is the man called Paladin.
Paladin, Paladin Where do you roam?
Paladin, Paladin, Far, far from home.
Did it generate ratings?Pahreyia wrote:2 episode mini series. Might stand as a pilot for a future miniseries or full on series. Last I heard, it was just a sci-fi project to see if it generated the ratings and reviews. As far as I know, they've retained no contracts with the actors to do any future episodes.

I know I'm good at what I do, but I know I'm not the best.
But I guess that on the other hand, I could be like the rest.
