Just what we need. More people driving humongous gas-guzzling vehicles. Good way to drive up that dependence on oil! At least these are primarily aimed at businesses rather than the average consumer, but still...
"This thing is horrible," she said of her Denali, adding that she's at the gas pump every three days. "I step on the gas and you can just watch the gas gauge drop."

This being used by penny ante losers is a fucking shame, it was so people with real companies got a break, not so some loser could slap a mary kay symbol on a POS SUV and drive it cheaper, sigh, the laws are not the problem it is the losers ( ie the general public) missusing them.

Dodge Durango rated at 6001 pounds full-load.. It's bullshit. That's not a work vehicle. Hell it's not even an SUV. It's a soccer mom van with an actual engine.

Actually I think it is the laws that are the problem, that and the mindset that "we like such and such activity, so we will make an exemption for it" or more cynically "we think that if we make this exemption, some more people will vote for us". They need to try to stop trying to use the tax laws as a vehicle for social engineering and vote pandering.Kylere wrote:This being used by penny ante losers is a fucking shame, it was so people with real companies got a break, not so some loser could slap a mary kay symbol on a POS SUV and drive it cheaper, sigh, the laws are not the problem it is the losers ( ie the general public) missusing them.

Except for the fact that this law specifically helped my friend's father. He runs a local electrician business. He recently purchased 3 large work trucks for his supervisors to take to job sites. The trucks have the workboxes and liftgate etc, and are rated at over 8000 pounds. He was able to save enough with this tax break to build an expansion on his lot for his business. In the long run, he'll be able to generate more revenue by expanding his own business, or renting the new building to another company. i.e. Bush's tax plan in effect. The sad part is that people will use this loophole for their own tax evading purposes and totally undermine the process.Chmee wrote:Actually I think it is the laws that are the problem, that and the mindset that "we like such and such activity, so we will make an exemption for it" or more cynically "we think that if we make this exemption, some more people will vote for us". Don't get me wrong, I think taxes are too high and should be lowered (although you need to cut or at least control spending at the same time). I just think that is better done through broad tax cuts rather than making exemptions for particular kinds of activity.

Then they should have written the bill differently. You can't fault people for taking advantage of a legal tax break.Pahreyia wrote:Except for the fact that this law specifically helped my friend's father. He runs a local electrician business.
