John Prine

Post by Lynxe »

My family have been big fans of John Prine as far back as I can remember and recently got to see him in concert. I was worried that like Bob Dylan was when I saw him, John might be feeling his age. I was curious if the show might not live up to our expectations.

It was just him and two other performers who played guitar, electric bass, double string bass, mandolin and harmonica. The show was supposed to be 2 hours yet John played for over 3.5 hours - non-stop . About 2/3rds though the show the other two left the stage and he did at least an hour alone of requests the other two might not know.

I once heard that people listen to musicians, but musicians listen to John Prine. I don't doubt it, the man exceeded our expectations. At the end he joked "You know, I don't know who had more fun here tonight, you or me.... but I think it was me!" and I think he might be right :) If you know who he is and ever get the chance to see him, don't pass it up!
