Well it has Brad Pitt so it can't be all bad. Especially when, if they follow history, he dies. Besides, once you've watched Hercules you know the whole story...or was that Xena? Yeah that is da shitz.

I'm not sure Hercules or Xena has anything to do with Achilles or Troy. But it is sydication.

This has the potential to be a great movie, as long as they don't Hollywood it up too much.

This movie will kick all manner of ass. Casting Sean Bean as Odysseus is a stroke of rare genius. This movie is going to own.

This can be a pretty good movie, I just hope the acting is good and that the scripting isn't as bad as most of the other attempts at the Iliad and Odyssey.

I heard they had to use a double for brad pitt for all the leg-shots, cause his legs looked like bird-legs.

He bulked up for the role, but preferred to just train the upper body and forgot his quads, hams and calves.

So, expect no full-figure shots of Brad.

Nonetheless, it's good to see a modern 'Swords and Sandals' movie being made!

Who could forget the old Harryhausen Sinbad movies and Lou Ferrigno's Hercules movies! LOL!

Also heard King Conan was under production again, without Arnold this time.

No gods in the cast listing(other than achilles mom)...kinda lame, but it should be fun anyhow. In the book, gods played big parts in the battles, so I dunno what they are doing not putting gods in the movie. I wanted to see apollo run down mount olympus and unleash a rain of arrows on the achaens.

Brad Pitts ok but miscast I think in this. Couldn't they have made a 3+ hour sequel to Meet Joe Black for him?

True, I thought about that as well. Then I came to the conclusion that the book was called The Illiad, not Troy. So while this draws from Homer's work, it's not a retelling of what he wrote.

True, but still gods would have been awesome, and they played a part in the battle of Troy, which I'm guessing this movie is focusing on. It's like not putting any magic in LoTR

July 16, 2003 - The Evening Standard reports Brad Pitt has had shots of his legs replaced on 'Troy' - because they didn't have that "Gladiator look". Producers on the film decreed that Pitt's legs were "too thin" - and reshot close ups using a more muscular man. A source confides, "Brad's a great guy, but close up, his legs were just too thin. I think the costume department were trying for that Russell Crowe-Gladiator look."
Legs Advantage: Crowe!
Awards: Crowe!
Acting Talent: Crowe!
The look that makes women want to drop their panties at the mere sight of him: Pitt!

Conclusion: Pin a poster of Pitt up in your bathroom and leave the acting to Crowe. You can throw in a little Orlando Bloom if needed for pretty boy effect although I think Orlano has more acting talent.

Pitt's not that bad but miscast I think. I'm curious how he'll be as Captain America. I understand he's signed to do that movie. Captain America has muscles so I think they'll have to put Pitt in one of those Sumu costumes that you fight in for fun to bulk him up.

I'm a big fan of greek and roman mythology, any movie with epic battles, skimpy dressed men (skirts/kilts!) and decent dialogue will have me glued to my seat. And "Helen of Troy" the TV mini series was not bad for a made for TV production.

Russel Crowe? Obssess much Winnow? Didn't he get kinda chubby lately?

Have a kilt marathon!

If russell crowe porked out it must be for an upcoming role! I'm not obsessed with crowe but do think he'd be cast better in the role.

Soon software will be available that will allow you to change the face of actors in movies on DVDs you purchase. I will change Pitt's face to Crowes! Everyone else in the movie will look like Sandra Bullock.

Brad Pitt's legs look like they're the same size as his arms. This is not normal, and definitely not what an ancient Hellene who'd been running into battle with 100+ pounds of armor and weapons half his life would be built like.

As long as this movie stays historically correct and we get to see Brad and Orlando buggering each other in true Greek fashion, I'm sure it'll be a big hit!

Crowe gained weight for Master and Commander, in the books, his character was 220 lbs or so. He didnt go that far, but he did gain weight for that role and he can lose weight for any action roles if he wants. Good actors can go back and forth from fat to uber buff in a few months. If he seems fat it's because his latest role needed it that way. When he needs to be buff, he is so(Gladiator he was incredibly fit).

Crowe has a beautiful mind and doesn't need beautiful lady-like legs like Pitt to impress the women!
I find you very attractive. Your assertiveness tells me that you feel the same way about me. But ritual remains that we must do a series of platonic actions before we can have intercourse. But all I really want to do is have sex with you as soon as possible.
I don't exactly know what I am required to say in order for you to have intercourse with me. But could we assume that I said all that. I mean essentially we are talking about fluid exchange right? So could we go just straight to the sex?

I like them both. It would be cool to have them in the same movie. Maybe going against each other. Regardless, this thread is about Troy. I almost want to cringe at the thought of yet another movie/series/tv drama about it. I'd rather see something about the Spartans. Or how about a remake of Spartacus? Or the Fall of Rome.

My favorite Romanesque movie of all time....can you guess?....Caligula!!!

Just because you can make a movie, doesnt mean you should. I can't wait for Gladiator VII, I know he gets sent back by the gods to reclaim Rome from the evil guy that raped his third wife before killing her with a javelin through the chest, that will be sweet.

Edit: Thats when you find out he's an imortal and that is actually the prequel to Highlander Final End Finished Game Over

I am sure this movie will be good, especially for those who like this kind of movie, ranging from fantasy-fans to those who like old historical movies and Sword and Sandal movies from the past.

The movie will be liked also because there aren't many movies of this kind made these days compared with the past.

Last movie with a somewhat similar theme would be Gladiator.

But i think they could have picked another cast though. Brad Pitt and Orlando Legolas aren't the most credible Greek heroes out there!

Oh well, who cares about credibility these days, im sure this movies producers dont , they just want to make money and since Brad and Orlando probably have a huge audience, they hope it will sell OMGIAMRETARDEDCAUSEALOTISTWOWORDS of tickets.

I just wish the next movieproduction in this style or "genre" will have producers who care abit more about the actors credibility!

Brad Pitt as Achilles, the Hero from Hellas? Yeah right! Brad as Achilles is a credible as Pee Wee Herman in the same role!

At least the didnt put Brad playing Hercules!

OK...the bad news for this film except for the ladies and Fesuni) is that they apparently decided to really go Greek and show an overabundance of man-ass. Specifically Pitt's man-ass.

Guy I work with and his friend somehow managed to see a sneak preview and were quite disappointed in this aspect. There was however, a good naked chick scene early in the movie. I think he said 2 naked chicks with Pitt's man-ass.

I am disgusted that they feel the need to ruin a prefectly good movie of ass kicking by showing the asses that are being kicked. Damn Hollywood all to hell.

What, are you afraid it's going to make you turn? It's just an ass; its presence on the screen doesn't mean that you have to interact with anyone else's penis.

Not that there's anything wrong with that!

Really I could care less who is in a movie as long as they can act. The man ass thing is no biggie they have to appeal to women (and Fesuni) just liuke they have boobies and chick ass tio make guys happy. I can dig it, it is called marketing. I would love to see a gritty realistic portrayal of the siege though. With a bunch of Bgrade movie guys like Michael Ironside the dude from Eddie and the Cruisers, etc.

Disregarding the fact that Brad "Chickenlegs" Pitt plays the Great Hero Achilles, this looks like its a good action movie!

Not many movies of this type is made these days, movies about Greek Mythos/Legends and History are always interesting to me!

They should have a spot for Lou Ferrigno in the movie tho, playing an aging Hercules...:D

It's been a while since I read mythology extensively, but I used to be rather up on Greek, Roman, Norse, and Arthurian mythology. Given that, I recall Achilles as having been a cool character that never really got developed save the story of the Trojan war. Other greek heroes such as Hercules, Odysseus, Theseus and Perseus, actually did a great deal more in my opinion. Achilles is basically known for being almost invulnerable, and for getting killed in the Trojan war.... Spoiler there for those of you who've never read any Greek mythology.

At any rate, for my money, it would be a tossup between Odysseus and Hercules with Perseus coming up as a close third. I have no idea how the movie will depict Odysseus since the focus appears to be Achilles, but make no mistake, he was a bad motherfucker. Casting Sean Bean as Odysseus was a stroke of genius.

Hercules, classically, wasn't a very heroic hero from what I remember of my Greek history. He had a bit of a superiority complex, and it showed itself in a harsh light sometimes. Achilles, from what accounts I've read, was a pretty noble guy.

Well basically Hera was attempting to kill Hercules to get back at Zeus for fucking some mortal. The reason I put Herc on equal footing with the others is because through his 12 labors, he killed some of the baddest monsters in Greek mythology. Hydra anyone?

Achilles was a noble guy, but I've read about anything he did other than the Trojan war. It's not hard to be noble when you're invulnerable. ;)

I saw a 30 minute preview/making of Troy on HBO last night.

It lowered my expectations unfortunately. It looks like a bunch of pretty boys running around and a half dead looking Peter O'Toole on his last gasp.

Doesn't mean it will be bad but that preview didn't help.
