I admit that aggro issues are fucked up, but a boycott is fucking stupid. I better things to do with my time in EQ than to just sit at the POK stone in a hissy fit.

You could box a level 1 warrior and place them at the PoK Stone! Don't equip them. Naked sit-ins get results twice as fast. :P

I simply meant that several of the infamous rangers of that time succeeded in making a lot of other rangers sit around like idiots for a few hours. Nice to see some things never change.

hehe way back when we did a necromancer sit in shortly after they nerfed us all into the most worthless class in the game. smedley actually showed up and made fun of us. literally he was like "hahaha do you actually think we care?"

it was right there and then I realized that verant was the greatest company ever.

I still think the two necros twitching each other during a Best of the Best tournament was the best protest I'd ever seen in Everquest. I don't see how a sit-in would force Sony to do anything, other than other players having issues with the lag in PoK.

I remember being asked to come somewhere and join a monk strike, but that was way long ago.

Never would think that something like this would actually work... especially in a game. RL, it would work hell yea, but in game, they'd be like ... 'meh, thats nice, hope you have an ass cusion cuz your gonna be there a while'

I met Smedley at ECTS in 2000 I think. Possibly 99. He was a total fucking prick. Emminently punchable face too.
That said, Necros needed nerfing and nerfing hard. Especially Salis. I have never and will never shed a tear for necros :)

untrue. necromancers were perfectly fine the way they were after the first major pet nerf. in fact they were probably the most balanced and fun to play class in the game.

Which major pet nerf? The one that stopped them summoning Level 49 killers, or the dagger-delay one?
The only major nerf that I remember going in after the delay one (which was definitely needed) was the FD-for-too-long-kills-pets one. That ruled too.

YES.

The necro was the first class I played (/mourn serriah) I had a blast playing as one. Then neft one came out...I think that first one was to fix unresistable lifetaps. Ok, fair enough. Then the next patch, and the pet nerf. I got my ass handded to me a few times, but I just had to re-learn how to do a few things. The, along came the next nerf. then the next. and the next. Until one day ( I remember this day very well) I got killed in what should have been the easiest fight ever. Wonderful...not only am I rather useless in a group, I cant even solo well anymore! I logged out, and deleted her.

If you want to make a statement, quit the game...

Saying "I'm gonna sit in PoK until you change my class" is stupid. As long as you're still paying your monthly fee (and in some cases monthly fee's on 2+ accounts) they couldn't care less where you sit, or if you ever even load the game.

If it's not fun, stop paying the bill.

the first one that was summoning pets that were tanking plane of fear shit and winning.

the dagger nerf was unacceptable and made pets too weak. I really don't see the point of being a powerful necromancer with the ability to summon an undead slave roughly equivalent to a naked level 35 ranger. melee classes typically complained that the pet did more damage than them. well fucking duh you shithead all it does is damage. they basically took away what the necromancers job was and gave them all these horseshit "group friendly" skills that they put no thought into before implementing. yes hello powerful master of the lich can you plz give our cleric mana? gee thanks verant that's really wonderful.

under no circumstances should pets even approach the DPS of a comparable level/gear player character.

if that was the only way a necro could do damage was through the pet, that would be one thing, but it was only part of the equation.

You guys don't remember necros at launch? I remember seeing a group of lvl 20 necros hunting sand giants. Yes, lvl 20. Shortly after that their pets were nerfed and I think their taps too and I never heard of necros again.

why not? lots of classes outdamage other classes.

besides if necromancers had their old dagger speed pets back combined with their spells they still would not come close to outdamaging my rogue in any fight, and the gap only widens on raid style mobs.

I might have been one of those necros. That was kudos to the unresistable life taps we had back then. Get two groups of low twenties necros, and kill all the SG's

People have been bitching and complaining and saying everything sucks for years now. EQ's only grown in size.

Next theory please!

from a Q&A on ign.

Alan VanCouvering: We will be hosting a chat to discuss the changes we have in mind on November 24th. We will be doing something more than a just simple balancing pass. It's more of a melee combat system change. The goal is to make melee combat more interesting over all, to introduce a little more skill into the way a melee character is played, and to achieve the balance that we are always looking for.
About time. Although I'm scared when they say 'combat system change'.

New Combat System Changes Team Meeting #1:

After several seconds of discussion, the team has decided on how to make the combat system more skill oriented. This is what we came up with. When casters want to cast a spell, they click a spell gem, right? Well, now if you want to swing your sword, you must click a melee gem.

If you're assuming that from Shaerra's post, I suggest you read it again. If you're saying that in general, don't you think you should wait until you actually know what the changes are before you start complaining about them?
