Wonder if they can build houses any closer together.

I live in Kansas...and I have seen tornados act just like that.... Entire block of homes obliterated and one home smack dab in the middle left untouched. I have also seen a grove a trees snapped off and uprooted by a tornado while a single lone tree in the middle of it all remains untouched...intact with all of its leaves.

Mother Nature can be very fickle...

How could those houses burn down but leave all those trees untouched? This looks a bit phony to me.

Because the trees are green and alive. Living things are much harder to burn than dead things, ofcourse.

I wonder what his secret was? Do you think he like started hosing his house down to make it wet when a house down the block caught fire or something?

That's what I'd do if I didn't live in a fucking condo.....I'd totally soak the outside of my house and all the shrubs etc as much as possible....then turn my sprinkers on aimed at the house and leave when it got close.

They build houses closer together than this in CO and it has to be fake. All the houses are burned but all the trees are standing.

Doesn't look fake, there's groundcover\stuff burned right up near the edge.

Probably left his sprinklers on and and got really lucky. Fires do some really odd stuff.

The picture is hosted from the Navy's Website, I doubt they are in the habit of releasing doctored photos. That don't have anything to do with war, of course.

It isn't faked. That is a real picture of a neighborhood in the Scripps Ranch area here in San Diego.

I've seen pictures like that in papers and on TV, doubt it would be photoshopped. Like someone said trees are alive and some of them show signs of being close to fire anyway.

It is hard to tell for certain from the picture, but my bet is that it is because of his roofing. Most of the houses that are burning in the neighborhoods are catching fire because of flaming debris raining onto the roof and catching fire. If you live in an area that has wildfires and don't have a tile roof or other highly flame resistant materials, then you are asking for some serious problems. You can tell from the grass that they have taken good care and have been watering. That sure didn't hurt anything either.
