Nazi Dog?

Post by Aslanna »

'Nazi dog' let off the hook
From correspondents in Berlin
October 16, 2003

GERMAN authorities have thrown out charges against a man accused of glorifying the Nazis by teaching his dog to raise his right paw in a Hitler salute.

The accused, identified only as Roland T., was to face court for allegedly teaching his black mongrel sheepdog named Adolf to perform the unusual trick on command.

A spokesman for the Berlin justice department said the charges had been dropped because it was not clear whether the 54-year-old had broken the law with his dog's "salute."

He added that the man was still facing a number of other charges due to his use of Nazi symbols.

Roland T., who lives in Lichtenrade, southern Berlin, will still be tried for allegedly wearing a T-shirt with a picture of the Nazi dictator and shouting Hitler slogans on previous occasions.

Nazi slogans and greetings are illegal in Germany, where the dictatorship remains a sensitive subject.

making any efforts to acknowledge the nazi party or the 3rd reich in Germany is against the law under their constitution. It's kind of silly but I imagine they'll get over it in another 50 years or so.

I still remember seeing some posters regarding the "skinheads." It said something to the extent of the shorter the hair the smaller the brain.

Well I understand the law, it is a rather touchy subject when you try to exterminate other races....something you would try to encourage people to forget.

I sincerely hope that they fail in their attempts to make people forget...

The knowledge of what happened is taught there, and the few films I saw in the World History classes I took in a Gymnasium there were more explicit than anything shown in the US. It is made clear WHY you are forbidden for saying or depicting certain things. They are not just taught that it didn't happen but you cannot do it anyhow.

You know some strange Germans then. Most Germans that I know have gotten very offended, or at least made very uncomfortable, at any mention of the nazi's or hitler, joking or not.

Those would be the same that I attended classes in. I was there as an exchange student at a Gymnasium, and at the time the images were imbedded into the student's heads about how bad their whole country was because of their ignorance or claim of it. Now, I don't think that basically telling the kids that everyone that was around at the time was bad, and I don't think the whole country was bad at the time either. This is just what the videos shown and the teacher's lectures represented.
