Syria will respond with military force if attacked again.

JERUSALEM/MADRID (Reuters) - Syria's ambassador to Spain said on Wednesday Damascus would respond militarily against Israel if the Jewish state carried out new attacks on Syrian territory.

A senior Israeli security source swiftly dismissed the threat, saying Israel did not want to escalate tensions and believed Syria did not want to start a war. The source said the envoy's statement was mainly intended to impress the Arab world.
That's the response I expected the first time to be honest. Time to see if they call each others bluff, we may be seeing the mid east glowing from satellite shots soon.

Call me a pesimist (I prefer the term realist), but that area will never be stable until someone goes genocidal. No, I'm not saying woohoo, go fight! Just that fanaticism and peace are like oil and water. So either it's an uneasy truce that accepts the fact there's going to be suicide bombins and threats, or you've got the entire region erupting into full one bloodshed.

I know, call me Cpt. Obvious. I'm bored, damnit!

Fanatics on both sides will never let this conflict go. I hate to say it, but Israel is in for some tough times in the next decade, and I'm not sure I want the US to help them.

Now that we've got our sweet Iraqi oil and scenic Afghanistan, what do we need Israel for? Let the Arabs content themselves killing the Israelis and we could prolly set up puppet regimes in both countries unmolested.

If its Syria vs Israel, Syria is probably in for an ass kicking. The real issue is what will the rest of the Arab world do. Israel has never been afraid of pre-emptive strikes and revenge missions, but I wonder if the presence of all those allied troops in Afghanistan and Iraq is making them a little too cocky...

Edit: yeah yeah yeah I paid Dregor the Ultimate Compliment in calling him Drolgin (may the Rightful King of Sweden forgive his clumsy servant)... you caught me Zamtuk

Nah what is making them cocky is that while the US might slap them on the wrist with one hand, they give them full support with the other. And as long as the Jewish influence is so strong on the government here I don't see that changing.

Of course, doesn't Syria supposedly have all of Hussein's WMDs? :)

Syria would get the everloving shit beat out of them by Israel in a conventional war. Israel already demonstrated it's ability to stomp their neighbors in a previous war. (1967 Six Day War :In a rapid pre-emptive attack, Israel crushed the military forces of Egypt, Jordan and Syria and seized large amounts of land from each. Iraq also participated in the fighting on the Arab side.)

Suicide bombings are all Israel's neighbors can muster. Whether Israel rolled over it's neigboring countries or not, the suicide bombings wouldnt stop and while Israel could easily defeat it's neighbors, it doesn't have the means to occupy them for any length of time.

The region is fucked. Nuclear/Biological/Chemical warfare will eventually happen. It won't change anything. There will be no victor or peace in our lifetime that I can see.

For goodness sake. Lets eat some cake!

The previous war was the 1973 Yom Kippur war. Both Syria & Egypt showed well in that war. They showed new strength in both there military capabilities, and organization, which fucked them in the six days war.
They re-took lands taken from them in the 6 day war. The Syrians kicked ass at first, but then started to loose after the first few days.
If the arab countries would get there shit together & unite, and be absolutley commited to defeating Israel, they would have a good chance.
US of A supporting Israel is the major stopper.

Many countries in the UN tend to be.
