If you buy a "newer" ATI card...

Post by Aabidano »

If you buy a "newer" ATI card, any of the ones that natively support DirectX 9+, make make sure you load the factory drivers that come with it. Then load the current ATI drivers.

I picked up a 9600 Pro last night, the DirectX files for the OS aren't included in the driver pack from ATI. A DirectX re-install or repair won't put them in or update them if they aren't already there.

What a pain in the ass, I thought I had a bad card for a little bit. I already had the Raedon drivers on disk, so I loaded those when I installed.

I went from a 8500 to an 9600.

There was an extra little popup at the end of the factory install, "Loading DirectX blah blah blah", that I didn't get from the ATI install.
