Johnny Depp interview taken out of context

Post by Krimson Klaw »

Read an article yesterday that had quotes of him slamming America and American policies. I was a bit ticked at some of them, and even more pissed that one of my favorite actors was getting involved in the flamefest. After reading his update, they took what he said out of context and I can whole-heartedly appreciate his point of view. Being critical of your country is not only a right, but I encourage it. Childish flaming (which is what I thought he was originally doing) is what turns me off. I thought he was pulling a Dixie Chick, but I was wrong. He's a good guy, oh and his movies rock too.

I like Johnny Depp and was happy to hear his response on the news last night.

ON a side note............ I really wish he would stay away from the golden blonde on his hair in some of the photos of him. He is MUCH better looking with the black hair! :)

The explore and get out comment is still way over the top. Hopefully that one came from heat-of-the-moment excitement.

I found that hard to believe that he'd really said that, only because I like him as an actor. Never heard his personal views on US or world in general.
Now I really don't know what to believe, it could be that they took what he said out of context plus some stuff got twisted during translation but he also might be back pedalling. The latter would be just said if true.
I still wanna like him.

You risk losing some of your audience when you start making public political stances as an actor. Hey, it's not very fair but its human nature.

Politically, actors think they know more than they do. I forgive them for doing stupid things and don't listen to a word they say about political issues. Same with actors that think they can play sports.

It's the same for anyone. Stick to what you know. I don't try to tell kyoukan how to drive her huskies in the Iditarod race or tell pilsburry how to work a gumball machine or Rojer how to peel labels off beer bottles.

actors are incapable of playing sports or being politically informed?

Judging from past attempt, yes.

Ok, not fair, but blanket statements rarely are.

heh he has a point there, if it wasnt for all my friends, family and whatever else i would move the fuck out of this country in a heartbeat, sure as hell no to france though :?

my dad always said he came here to make money and he leaves afterwards, OMGIAMRETARDEDCAUSEALOTISTWOWORDS of wealthy americans, actors and whoever else with a cultural perspective on the rest of the world feel the same way,
i know of a lot of americans that have made a fortune and left, but not any foreghners with the opposite perspective

Indeed... Americans have no idea how bad they have it in their own country compared to others (say, Australia.. yes, I'm biased but at least I've lived in both)

I rarely see an American, or an Englishman for that matter, move to Australia for any significant amount of time and then go running back home to the motherland because it was so much better back there. Oh, the English will *whine* like it was, but they rarely leave of their own volition ;)

Anyway, it's an entirely personal thing, some people would "die" without mail on Saturdays and 24 hour McDonalds.. but you really should do your best to live in a few other countries so you have some perspective, something which is inversely proportional to the amount of innate patriotism you display.

Its not the Mail and McDonalds. I am a vegitarian and US Mail is nothing other than a wealth transfer program from those that live in cities to those that live in BFI.

It's keeping most (though still far too little) of my cash and knowing my country can crush any other if it really came to that. Its nice being largely beholden to no one.

I am glad I live in a country whom pretty much everyone likes instead of a country most people think are a bunch of fat, greedy, stupid bullies, but I could kick their ass so who cares!
